Sorry I know this will sound odd, but the cigarette lighter went in the fiesta which I use for a Bluetooth yokey.

Replaced and works fine but every time I change into third, it hits the barrel of the lighter and the BT plug in often falls out. You can hear a metal clonk so I dont think it's the wiring which is clipped in anyway.

Spoke to a Ford dealer (you'd think 2004 fiesta was like a model A Ford) he checked something and said it's a standard lighter.

Just wondering if a shorter barrel lighter is such a thing ? There's only one way to fit it, so can't imagine I've done anything wrong. I threw the original one away on bin collection day but can't recall it being very much different.

Do you mean that the gear lever is clunking against the barrel of the cigarette lighter itself down in the bowels of the fascia?

Thanks problem actually is as cml says (my bad description) the problem is actually the gear mechanism 'in the bowels' hitting the base of the lighter barrel, so wondering if the old original was a shorter barrel as it was always fine & there's nothing wrong with the gear mechanism. Not sure if a short barrel lighter exists anywhere

I would double check the cabling run.

Done that, cable is clipped into the original clips, you can hear the noise of the mechanism hitting the barrel

Sorted, the original is a slightly shorter barrel and also has a slot that locates to hold it below the console.

    Appreciate the comments everyone
