That's not simply waffle though. It likely contributed to deaths across the globe. So pretending he's a mild mannered reasonable voice simply isn't true. And I'm also reasonably sure it wouldn't have swung the election TBH.

There is a difference between being a good president or a good presidential candidate.

I don't think there is anything to show that either Kamala Harris or Hillary Clinton would have been bad presidents (maybe you'd disagree with their politics, but they wouldn't have been actively bad). But both were bad candidates, and I think it has shown that taking the moral high ground or an idealistic view of the electorate in the States is a recipe for disaster.

The American people have shown that the 2 times they had a chance to vote for a female candidate they ended up voting for Trump. The Democrats need to recognise this for the sad fact it reflects.

"Imagine they put forward a woman instead of Gavin Newsome just for DEI reasons"

The mask has slipped with this DEI hire nonsense.

In case you're bothered to learn something....

She graduated in 1986 with a degree in political science and economics.

Harris then attended the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, where she served as president of its chapter of the Black Law Students Association.

She graduated with a Juris Doctor in 1989.

She was a district attorney from 2002 to 2011.

She was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017.

She represented California in the U.S. Senate from 2017 to 2021.

She was a vice president for four years.

    DEI indeed. Utterly laughable

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

Yep by all metrics far more qualified than Trump ever was. Trump is basically the least qualified one could be for higher office.

An update on this that the airlines seem to basing primarily on inferences. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-halts-all-flights-texass-el-paso-airport-10-days-2026-02-11/

Airline sources told Reuters the grounding of flights was believed to be tied to the Pentagon's use of counterdrone technology to address Mexican drug cartels' use of drones of the U.S.-Mexico border. The flight prohibition also covers some rural air space in neighboring New Mexico.

The move has stranded numerous aircraft from Southwest Airlines and American Airlines at the airport among other airlines.

El Paso airport handles about 4 million passengers yearly.

The El Paso airport confirmed the development in an Instagram post.

NATURE OF SECURITY REASONS NOT SPECIFIED

The FAA did not specify the nature of the "security reasons" and declined to comment beyond the notice. It said the temporary restrictions would be in place until February 21. It does not apply below 18,000 feet (5,486 meters), which allows airplanes to transit over the airspace.

No flights below 18k feet and multiple planes stranded with no exemptions yet to allow them to reposition.
There could well be significant knock on delays across the Airlines with aircraft stranded.

He used to be good, and would have interesting experts on and ask them questions and actually listen to them.

However long ago he started to buy into his own hype and believed it was his opinions and "knowledge" that people wanted to listen to, started inviting guests who would mostly back up his own opinion, often argue with experts in their field of expertise because he read something on the internet, and largely just focuses on his own viewpoint. Then you have things like outright lying about some things to back up his own claim (like the fake story which was going around about a child in a school identifying as a cat and needing a litter tray in the toilet, he claimed his friend's wife was a teacher in the school despite the story as a whole then being revealed to be fake).

I don't think Kamala Harris going on his show would have swayed any voters at all, and it's likely Rogan would have been tougher on her compared to the meaningless nonsense interview he did with Trump because let's face it; Rogan is more than happy to be in the Trump/Musk party than anyone on the Dem side. He may hold some leftist/centrist views, but ultimately he knows what side his bread is buttered and which side would love to court his favour and make him feel special.

Supporting a candidate with no chance to win and who was therefore not a threat to corporate America.

Yeah Newsome would be a very good candidate alright, no Obama but a solid choice.

They heavily pushed her as the first this and the first that. People are sick of that and don't want race or sexuality to be thrown at them as a reason.

What mask? I like many others are sick of all this DEI crap which ultimately discriminates against white men. Best person for the job and as @dulpit pointed out both could have been good presidents (we'll never know) but both were bad candidates in what is a political race. And that was proven through at the polls.

Trump has been handed a golden goose twice now by winning 2 elections against two bad candidates. Even old man Biden was capable of beating Trump because he was a better candidate. Unfortunately father time caught up with him.

Trump administration has refused to review a new Moderna vaccine.

Trump WH has removed the rainbow flag from the national Stonewall monument.

While some do not agree with flying it everywhere (I'm okay with flying it in most settings but would not impose it on the unwilling), surely even they would acknowledge that a memorial to the Stonewall riots merits flying it there? Not in Trumps case. The riots were because of brutal police repression of the gay community in the 1960s in the USA.

I don't know. I think Harris going on his podcast would have been a good enough move. I say this with hindsight but it's easily popular enough to be important. I'm not sure if either of them were interested though.

No idea what age you are but I`m assuming you are too young to remember the 1970's and 1980's in Ireland. V.A.T. reached as high as 36.75% during that period resulting in a large black cash economy for businesses. Income tax rates were also high with marginal rates as high as 60% in the 1980's where again cash under the table was common.

For the undocumented in the U.S. it has always been the same more or less in that they work for cash, but that does not mean they pay no taxes. Like practically anywhere else they pay taxes on anything they purchase. Based on 2022 tax data it is estimated that if all those undocumented were deported the U.S. would lose $97.6 billion in state and federal taxes annually.

I think anyone still listening to Rogan from 2023 onwards is probably of that ilk that they weren't going to be swayed either way. It probably would have done no harm for Harris to go on it, but it seems like the bigger issue was she struggled to make time for it and wanted Rogan to go to her, rather than her going out to Rogan's ranch in Texas (which he moved to from California so he wouldn't have to pay as much in taxes after he made his Spotify deal). In fairness, she entered the candidacy late because of Biden and was trying to make up for lost ground, and Rogan seems to have most of his guests booked months in advance so it's likely they just couldn't make the time work. I just doubt it would have moved the needle too much.

And where exactly am I preventing him from having an opinion? I'm merely pointing out some of the views he has espoused are incredibly dangerous. So he's not a reasonably voice when he starts pushing such views.

There's nothing inherently wrong with being corporate. Corporations are the cornerstone of the western world especially America as they drive the economy which supports a first world way of life. Has it's flaws but has a lot of benefits too.

Rogan has previously voted Obama, Saunders and Trump.

    He's currently cooling on trump.

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jan/15/joe-rogan-trump-ice-gestapo

This guy is followed by millions of normal people who are not political. You should not give your opponent a free pass here.

    https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/politics-news/kamala-harris-regrets-not-appearing-joe-rogan-podcast-1236415162/

She's already said she regrets it. I'll be proven right on this when the next democrat candidate goes on his podcast. They won't be demanding Rogan travels to them. They'll be there cap in hand looking for votes.

Just sit down, have a chat for an hour and show people you're a normal person who doesn't just read from a script. JD vance did the same.

And reading reasons why the democrats were a bit cool on talking to the likes of Rogan. They were afraid of a backlash from the "progressive" wing of the party. The hard left shouldn't be given that much respect. It's not like they're going to Switch their vote to the republicans so stop caring what they think.

What ultimately matters though is his huge platform and the next election both democratic and republican candidates will be putting their best foot forward on his platform.

IMO Gavin Newsom reeks of a Keir Starmer type to me - the exact sort of bland, corporate-friendly and establishment politican with no meaningful or substantial vision for how to improve a broken country for the better.

Being anti-Trump is not enough, and Dems will find themselves in a similiar situation again in the not-so-distant-future if they don't own up to and address their own failings. I see no evidence that Newsom would be the one to lead that change, despite all his memes and bluster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 126 ✭✭OrangeNinja

He's white and male that's the most important thing to Americans. I don't think he's bland at all tbh.

One thing I absolutely abhor is insincerity. If Rogan was honest about what he is, that'd be fair enough. I still wouldn't like him but I wouldn't be calling him a grifter. He pretends to be this bohemian figure on a quest for knowledge who changes his mind when presented with evidence. In reality, he is an establishment corporate shill who pushes anti-vaxxer nonsense because it suits his bottom line.

Then why did asylum applications in Ireland drop 30% from 2024 to 2025?

Americans don't want to solve problems or make things better. They just voted for Trump. I think that tells you much about their priorities for the most part. Obviously, plenty of people volunteer and donate and work for a better country but they're the minority.

Would you not argue his bottom line would be bigger if he supported vaccines etc? Most people do and it'd make him more appealing to sponsors. His views surely knocked a few quid off whatever Spotify etc offer him?

@johnny_ultimate Gavin supports military aid and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. If this European war is still ongoing by then i think it'd be very beneficial to us in Europe to have him as president. Russia's army and economy will be a shambles by then. He he starts properly supporting Ukraine he'll finish Putin off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,375 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

That makes no sense. The people that Rogan panders to for money don't want to hear about science, adjuvants, vaccines, or any of that. They want to be told why vaccines are dangerous and about how they're the real victims.

    Oh those poor white men.

Funny that Tiny's DEI hires are mostly incompetent white men like Hegseth, RFK Jr, Dr. Oz, Duffy and Warsh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,254 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

On the vaccine subject you might question the science but overall Joe would reference credible science on a range of subjects. Ultimately it doesn't really matter though when you're there to get votes. You're not going to lose votes if you go there and put on a good showing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,375 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

No, he wouldn't. I've seen people tell him he's wrong and present evidence to that effect. He just ignores it and pushes his anti-vaxx propaganda anyway.

I have no interest in changing his mind. I just wish he'd drop the facade. He's a MAGA shill and nothing else.

So all of her experience and credentials amounted to nothing because she was a mixed-heritage woman and so she obviously was just a DEI hire? The mask has really slipped with America since Obama was in office and their willingness to accept Christofascism as long as a black woman doesn't get into power is just proper mental stuff altogether.

The new job numbers reek of false reporting. They just suddenly jumped in January by a massive amount. They also revised down the total jobs created in 2025 to a third of what was reported.
