Are they calling people from all the batches or how does it work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭Kevboom

They do it in order. So now they're on 4.3 and 4.4 next

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭gigi1223

So about 50 in each batch ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 124 ✭✭Abbotsford5

jeez . I messaged today and they said they have called up to 10 in Limerick for interview. Just ridiculous. 10 people and they haven't even placed all of those 10? I replied back that the panel was a joke and the comp was farcical and why other depts were not drawing on Intradept panels as well as mobility?. Revenue has a HEO tax specialist comp starting and their own AI comp. They should be drawing from Intradept comps . Joke shop. Have you gone through clearance yet?

They only placed 5 people from the 2022 HEO comp for Limerick so seems about right.

Would people on a general panel have the experience needed to move into a Tax Specialist role? I applied for this as an external candidate but I'd imagine I'd place well down the list if I even made it because my tax experience is broad but shallow after nearly 10 years in an smaller accountant practice.

I currently work as a Head of Finance in a regulated entity, manage the training of 40+ people and heavily involved in the day to day running of the business but I'm not sure if that level of experience would even count towards this role?

I would have thought you'd have loads of qualified tax consultants applying for such a position? Maybe I'm miles off though?

Your title sounds good but the role has specific education requirements which they look for, Revenue did the same for their EO panels. They're trying to up the quality of new intakes (ie those already working in the Big 4, in tax, qualified accountants etc) so most applicants of the regular HEO PAS panels mightn't specialise and wouldn't be applicable.

I've been in the department for a while and can confirm it's a demanding role; on of top of specialising in tax, (plenty of staff will be coming to you to advise!) you could be focusing on Revenue audit & compliance whilst managing large projects and busy teams. Doing call-outs, dealing with the general public and difficult agents. The pay is far off what you'd make in the private sector but the work life balance and WFH is what makes it. The training is excellent so you'd be given time to adjust.

How many are in each batch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 611 ✭✭✭gestappo

I can’t speak for other batches but there are 35 in batch 4.3 - 11 of which have reached clearance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭gigi1223

I thought 50 , that gives me some hope . They are holding interviews still which is crazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 124 ✭✭Abbotsford5

judging from what you are saying about your current role you should apply definitely. I am in Revenue myself ( recently transferred in from another Dept but I don't have the finance qualifications my qualifications are in a different area. Do apply and best of luck to you.

can somebody help with pay scales? I’m on max EO Higher so do I go onto next pay scale on HEO if successful? Not sure it’s worth my while.
Also for anyone who sat interview, is a week enough to prepare? Won’t be working that week so will be full on prep. Can’t decide whether to bother going forward or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭ballyerlas

You won't lose money. Under the Civil Service promotion rules, you typically start at the point on the HEO scale that matches your current pay plus one small jump.

The Benefit: While the immediate raise might be small, you gain a higher salary ceiling. At EO Max, you've peaked; as an HEO, you can keep earning annual increments up to roughly €72,108.

5 to 10 hours of strong focused prep is plenty. Focus on the STAR method and map your best work examples for the HEO competencies.

thank you so much for that. I’m just doing it to keep options open really and might kick myself if I don’t do it. Failed twice before so third time lucky. Good to know 5-10 hours could do it so I’ve plenty of time.

anyone here write their proposal just to find out what you proposed already exists? Any issue at interview?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭Lynnington3

that won’t make any difference at all.

The report exercise is just to show how you would go about researching and writing a report and how you’d go about defending your decisions when questioned about it.

Hey folks, does anyone know if the report needs to be named anything specific, ie. the actual word document? Can't find anything in the brief and I'm going googly eyed looking at it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 84 ✭✭maryfay

    No it doesn't

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 611 ✭✭✭gestappo
