The more I see about 5 in a row and your mans hair makes me think we won't win.

1 win in 6 against WH and they are hitting form and at home....

We need to sign another LB this summer because no way Shaw will be able to manage 2 games a week next season. I think he's benefitted the most from us only playing one game a week. Dorgu can do a job there but I think it's clear he's more effective as a winger

Lewis Hall would be my pick for LB signing this summer

Sorry, the "when fit" is doing some heavy lifting in my post.

We absolutely need another LB in the summer. I just don't know that they will necessarily be better than Shaw

I reckon you woul have to have concerns over Casemiro, Shaw, Maguire after playing Saturday. I know there is a big break, but Casemiro. Suppose better to start them and sub.

The sooner the hair nonsense is put to bed, the better.

IF we don't win tonight, that's all anyone in the media will be banging on about for the next fortnight. I'd love nothing more than to get the 3pts, see a video at the weekend of him getting his head shaved for charity or something, then watch him piss off into the sunset, never to be heard of again. T

he players have a pain in their holes being asked about it and everything at this stage. He's got his 5 mins in the sun, made a fair few bob off it at this stage also, I'm sure, but enough is enough. Get it over and done with and maybe we can put that 2nd-half-title-charge together.

TBF to shaw he has played the most minutes of anyone in the squad this year, 2172 minutes worth of games in the league next best is bruno on 1894, so about 3 more games worth, i know you cant discount his injury record but he has been great so far this season for availability.

I think we will probably try keep him given we owe so much money in transfers to be paid next year but he will have plenty of options in the summer if he keeps this up, the length of contract will be the biggest issue we might want 2+1 he would likely be looking for 4

Shaw has been a revelation this year.

Mount is what he is, maybe he can do a Shaw and suddenly become an Iron Man but that would be an incredible bonus and not something to be relied on.

De Ligts injury is my biggest worry looking ahead by a significant margin. Supposedly a minor back injury in November yet still out in mid-Febuary.

Saying this tentatively, Shaw might have got to the bottom of his injury issues and through experience or some new techniques or preparation become more atuned to his body. The one game a week is probably a massive help too.

If you remember in the early part of his career, Giggs used to have desperate trouble with his hamstrings, but then he started the yoga and matured his game and they nailed down the issue was largely related to his back and then he was pretty much always available into his forties.

There is a lot to be said for experience. Shaw is a class player, pretty much any good spell we have had in recent years has coincided with him being fit.

If Rolls Royce is meant in the commonly used "best in class" sense, then I really think that's up for debate (It could be meant in the Alternative Comms sense, in that he's a little chunkier than the average high end car).

I'm a big fan of Shaw but he's falls well short of best in class when it comes to goal involvements / attacking output. He has only averaged 1 goal contribution every 9-10 games in his United career, worse if you include Southampton.

In terms of some of the best attacking fullbacks, he's miles off the pace in that regard. For context, his goal involvement stats are very similar to Aaron Wan Bissaka's stats.

As much as I like Shaw, I think upgrading our fullbacks is one of the key areas needed to bridge the gap between us and the best teams in the PL/CL. A replacement mightn't be as good defensively as Shaw but you would hope to be gaining a lot on attacking output.

Shaw spent a couple of weeks in Qatar last March I think it was to get to the root of the problem and undergo rehab. I think there was an imbalance between both legs due to his previous injuries, namely the broken leg which was addressed. I agree that I would worry as well if he had to be relied on to play more than once a week on a regular basis, but maybe he will prove us wrong.

I like Shaw but he's not the long term answer. More games next season, he can't be relied on unfortunately.

I would opine that the heavily reduced schedule this season has hugely benefited Shaw. 2 games a week, every week is a different proposition.

Would be very hard to see Newcastle being willing to sell him.

We are being linked heavily this week with Tonali, another player that it's difficult to see Newcastle allowing to leave in the Summer.

I'd like Tonali if things don't work out with Anderson!

    Quality player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 898 ✭✭✭Gus Ivey

Tonali would be a massive gamble 😁

Speaking of Newcastle players, Guimarães is someone I'd love at United.

Run is gonna end sometime but no reason it should end tonight. If it does then so be it but as good as West Ham are doing they haven't beaten anyone of note with a good performance. One was qpr, er spurs are spurs and other was Burnley and Sunderland have been dropping points lately too.

We are the form team in the league and albeit we have conceded some goals we always look dangerous when we attack.

We owe West Ham a beating let's hope it's tonight.

I'd probably argue to keep Shaw, and then play Dorgu as our offensive fullback and have shaw for more defensive games or game states.

I can see a player in Hall, no doubt, and I'd not be agaisnt signing him but I'd like to see if it could work with Dorgu rather than not trying that… I don't see Dorgu as anything more than a squad option on the wing. That is also a likely outcome a fullback, but I just think there is a bigger chance. I'd probably prefer a right back over a left back tbh.

so they just put an extra insole into one of his boots, like putting a beermat under a wonky table leg

Actually this makes sense even if we dont keep shaw, we have mazraoui who can play the defensive lb who just slots into a back 3 in possession, not ideal of course but in terms of using the squad we have and long term planning he would work if we go for dorgu as the long term lb option

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,625 ✭✭✭FrankN1

Football is never predictable so a win is far from a guarantee tonight. Hope we can keep up the good performances.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭jayo44

That don't mean you can't be confident and not look forward to a game. Anything can happen but so long as we turn up i think we be fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 898 ✭✭✭Gus Ivey

So many names getting thrown about, and would pay a hefty premium, likely £75m-£100m, for any of Bruno G, Elliot Anderson, Baleba, Wharton etc).

He’s been fit for every game this season. And putting in quality performances. Not sure what more people expect of him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 970 ✭✭✭ollkiller

Delighted for Shaw. Hes a fantastic player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 898 ✭✭✭Gus Ivey

The issue is when we are playing two games a week. He is very unlikely to be able to cope with that, therefore he is not reliable for a top level club.

He is great when he's fit, but unfortunately his fitness record is poor.

United are odds on favourites with PP to win tonight. I don't agree with their price, potential banana skin, away, in a hostile environment?? Anyway, I'm a born pessimist
