Pakistan in a right hole chasing what should have been a handy total. A loss here they might have to reconsider their boycott plans.

Disastrous 19th over for the Dutch. Faheem Ashraf dropped second ball of the over, ends up taking 24 runs off it. Such an easy catch too.

They pulled it out in the end but certainly far from the straightforward chase it should have been.

India v USA up next should be straightforward. WI v Scotland could be interesting later today.

Very good powerplay for the US. 46-4 they have India wobbling a bit.

In the end all the favourites won today despite the wobbles from each one. Pakistan's collapse was amazing from the position there were and that dropped catch proved pivotal at the end, but fair play to Faheem who stood up when needed.

Hoping for the underdogs to cause shocks in this tournament as you feel with the shorter format that it is a bit more likelier. India obviously are huge favourites as T20 Cricket alone is practicallly the national sport and everything is in their favour off the pitch too. Hopefully they will be made to work very hard for it to defend their title.

As for Ireland, always difficult for us in Asian conditions. Sri Lanka and Australia aren't in great form which gives us hope but obviously very, very tough to win against either. In any case, victories over Zimbabwe and Oman are the main target and hopefully much better performances than a couple of years ago in the US. They've had decent preperation with the games against Italy and the UAE so they should be rather to go tomorrow.

Sri Lanka are coming off a bad loss in that third game against England. Should have walked it but fell in a heap to part time spin of Jacks and Bethell. Bit of a fluke really but shows vulnerability. Bowled really well that game so it won't be easy.

Big game in the morning Afghanistan vs NZ. Horror show that India series but Allen back is big for them.

In the middle game, England can't be accused of taking Nepal lightly as they've named a full strength team.

England got away with one there, Nepal needed 6 off the last ball. England win by 4. Hard luck for Nepal.

Heartbreak for Nepal. Played Rashid better than anyone I can remember. Weren't fazed by Archer's pace. Proper looking team.

Sam Curran the hero for England holding his nerve in the last over and managed to defend ten. Only went for five in the end. He loves situations like that and usually delivers. England got away with one there definitely.

Incredible performance from Nepal and they really should have got over the line. They have been developing nicely over the last number of years and you could see that that experience stood to them today but they just fell short. Still, with that group not looking particularly tough on paper, they still have a chance of the Super Eight stage.

With the following that Nepal have, you can certainly see that they could become the next Afghanistan.

    Ireland XI:

Paul Stirling (capt), Ross Adair, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Curtis Campher, Ben Calitz, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, Matthew Humphreys

Nice to see Ben Calitz confirm his breakthrough into the side and it's the correct decision to leave out Josh Little who doesn't deserve to be near the team.

Pitch looks a belter and Ireland after winning the toss, decide they will have a chase. Commentators say around 175 or so would be par.

Sri Lanka 18-0 after 2 overs.

After a couple of good chances for Ireland, they finally take one with Mishara departing after being fooled by a beautiful slower ball from Adair.

    28-1 after 4.

Score predictor popped up there with 178 as the expected score, so SL are fairly on track to break par.

Nice wicket Dockrell - spinners slowed the run rate down and forced the batsmen to try and move the pace along.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,594 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Really nice couple of overs from Dockrell. Hasn't bowled too much in the latter part of his career which is a shame as he was always quite useful.

63-2 from 9 and Ireland will be pretty satisfied so far. Need to keep the pressure on.

Rathnayake got into an awful mess and Dockrell picks up his second.

    68/3 after 10.1.

Plenty of Irish at the ground which is great to see.

Ireland strangling Sri Lanka at the minute…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,594 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Kusal Mendis survives with DRS saving him from an lbw.

Delany strikes two balls later though with Wellalge hitting it into the deep. Good catch by Dockrell.

86/4 after 13.5 overs. Ireland in a really good position.

Things are going suspiciously well at the moment!

Hopefully when the quicks come back in they dont ruin it 😅

Those death overs at the end have always been our achilles heel.

6 overs left. Humphreys and Delany will bowl 3 of them, so it's those other 3 which will be the issue.

    Appalling fielding.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,594 ✭✭✭VillaMad

More missed chances from Campher, McCarthy and Dockrell with Kusal Mendis somehow still there. Dreadful over from Ireland with 21 coming off it.

Potentially the turning point in this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,108 ✭✭✭MFPM

Yeah, Ireland really had done well to restrict them, that over is a killer...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,814 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Another one down. Undoing all the good work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 20,968 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

I was always worried about this McCarthy over and it's proving to be right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,985 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

McCarthy ffs… opening the door for them… 14.63 his current economy rate.. FFS !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,108 ✭✭✭MFPM

All that good work being undone 65 off 30 balls for SL.

McCarthy was on a hat-trick in the over and yet it was one of the worst you will see.
