I have no idea where to post this question so I'll chance it here. A family member sent me a video on WhatsApp and I was wondering if there is any way to watch it on a TV or even a tablet. TV preferred. Thanks in advance.

Oh I'm fairly useless with technology so go easy on me.

    mobile device? apple/android
    TV make and model.

TV's does not have storage to store files, but…
most nowadays TV's have USB ports - files stored on external USB drive can be accessed on TV this way, providing TV support file format (MP3, MP4, FLAC, MKV, etc)

screenshare/mirroring is feature that allow to display phone screen on TV , wireless - look it up by phone and TV models

If you have computer/laptop, you could store save file from phone to computer and, provided computer and TV are on same home network, you could play files from computer to TV (DLNA protocol, i believe, supported on most devices for long time). Network discovery need to be enabled on the computer

    Other options might be available

Depending on the phone and the software and the TV you might be able to cast (wirelessly display) the video on the TV.

Or copy it on to the TV..

Save it to Google photos for free and then you can share via the browser.

If you have a smart TV you could open Google photos in a browser on the TV or tablet or ...

Thanks for the replies lads. The phone I have is a Galaxy A12. The video was sent on WhatsApp. Im just lookig to see if there is any way that I can watch this video on my smart TV but I cant see any option for casting or for saving it to Google photos.

As i said earlier Im non techy so Im probably missing something simple.

I'm hopelessly non techy too but this is what I've done a couple of times…..

I open my photos library on the phone, the video will be there among the photos.

I select the video and email it to myself, and then open the email on my laptop.

Then I save the video to my downloads on the laptop.

I plug in my USB key into the laptop and move the video from the downloads onto it.

The TV has a slot for the USB key so i plug it in there, and the TV automatically opens up an option to play the video.

There are probably far more clever ways to do it but I'm a dinosaur.

If the video is too large to email to yourself it will ask you if you want to use airdrop.. I say yes and it just comes in on my email then. You might have to wait a few mins.

Settings>Connected Devices>Smart View on your phone

depends what TV you have but in Settings you should have a menu item for similar, you can connect your phone to your TV following instructions and it will mirror your exact phone screen so you can see the video on the TV screen

I got it sorted using pretty much the same method. I was trying a couple of things earlier and seen an option to "share" so I clicked on that and then had the option of emailing it to myself. Done that, dowmloaded to the desktop, copied to USB stick, stuck it into TV and all sorted.

As you say its a long way of doing it so I might have a go tomorrow at trying the method mentioned by @lucalux above.

If your TV runs Android TV, then Localsend may be an option to look into.

Open Source and works good, the few times i used it. Works from Phone to Phone/Tablet also.

But the old reliable of moving from USB to USB, always works, as recommended above
