Hi, Has anyone experience/recommendation for someone who will build/install a build/shed for a golf simulator room? Have quotes on the way from gardenhouse24.ie

Country is full of shed / garden room builders. Steeltech, Shanette Sheds, Shomera etc. Lots more too.

More importantly I'd check with the simulator people to see what specs they need in regards to length, width, ceiling height etc. before buying anything.

Used a simulator a few weeks ago in Mayo - Erris Coast hotel.

Didn't need huge space, but does need the height.

I reckon 4m wide and 6m long would be ideal, but you will need it to be almost 4m high

I can vouch for gardenhouse24 - decent quality and decent price. You will need a concrete base and get them to do the installation.

Yes there are indeed..but…steeltech will only have higher roof on sheds (not on nicer room type buildings) & most that I have contacted won;t do the higher roof bar gardenhouse24. They do have a couple options for that are plenty big enough but want to see one in use if can.

You'd need planning permission to do this given the height requirements, right?

if you want someone to do the whole thing start to finish, these would probably be one of the best in Ireland. You are probably looking at €30k for the room and anything between another €10k -€30k depending on the spec of simulator.
A little over 3m is plenty high for simulator. I think you can do it within planing regulations, but if you want to do it right, it won’t be cheap.

No experience with this but I do get suggested content on social media for garden build simulators specialists that are quite clearly using AI generated images, so just be mindful when looking at different crowds online.

Big money, I'd have a go at this DIY but putting is half of golf and with this missing it dilutes it for me

If a pitched or slanted roof, the high point can be 4m down to the low point of 3m.

This one is 3.7m at highest https://gardenhouse24.ie/golf-simulator-room-caddie-44-a-7-4-x-5-9m-24-3-x-19-4.html

However the floor area exceeds the 25sqm size currently permitted. (This may change to 45 sqm soon)

It will come in at probably €30k - €40k all in. But it obviously can be used for a lot more than just the simulator.

that’s reasonable enough. If you Could do a few bits yourself like concrete foundation, assembly and insulation, it would keep costs someways reasonable

that must be an AI generated one, doesn’t look a suitable layout at all. it’s highest at the screen end, doesn’t appear to be the height to swing a driver or a long iron at the hitting area and projector and bracing board would be in the way anyway.

Shomera do a v expensive one, but at least you can see they designed it to work with high point in the middle(more or less - don’t like the projector unprotected in that position and looks too close to screen)

It does appear a standard enough peaked roof shed type structure is the ideal shape for a golf simulator which would be cheaper I’m sure

Seen a sample on foresights social feed where the user dug down a metre, to gain height short of planning regs. I posted it one of the other threads on the same topic

yeah, height isn’t really an issue for planning etc. just need to use the peaked roof instead of the flat roof, or dig down. I like the look of something like this from foresight:

I got one installed last year from mycabin, i went with 5 x 4 x 3.2m (interior space), happy enough with it, but tbh if i was doing it again id probably just get a local builder to build one to the exact specs i wanted for the same price if not cheaper and have more input on things like dimensions and placement of windows \ doors etc as these are generally preconfigured. They also dont provide any electrical work, so that was quite expensive to get it wired up correctly and safely (and needs to be done at a specific time during the 2 day build) whereas if you were getting a builder that would be included i feel.

The other thing i would say is have a think about how much you will actually use it, i had visions of being out hitting balls every night of the week, and for the first couple of months i was, and I did see a big improvement in my game. But with work and kids i probably use it once a week at best lately. I also put a dartboard and small gym in the corner and let the kids use it for movies, watching matches (Amazing for that) and sleepovers etc so we try to get the use out of it and dont regret it but i would change a few things if i could do it again.

Happy to send you the drawings \pictures of mine if you need a reference.

Digging down comes with other challenges though, like keeping water out.

  • Subscribers Posts: 17,114 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

yeah, not ideal, I wouldn’t personally dig down, tank etc but wouldn’t go to planning either, The 4m pitched roof allowed is significant height.

On a related note, there’s another point I should mention around rainwater runoff, as it’s something I messed up. When I had mine installed by MyCabin, they simply provided standard guttering with downpipes that ran stright into the ground. I just attached water butts to collect the runoff, but they fill up so quickly and caused flooding and became a hassle. In the end, I bit the bullet and brought in a contractor to dig a trench and connect the guttering into permanent drainage. It ended up being an additional cost that, I should have anticipated and factored in from the start.

thanks all! Have decided to pull back, again. Site in awkward and the cost is going up and also the point re not using it as much as I might think rang a big alarm bell…and there will be only 2 of us in the house shortly enough. So sticking with net mat and rapsodo for now. Might try and source a gazebo/tent for the set up though.

The usage piece is the big concern in my opinion. It would want to be multi use space, like small gym, maybe WFH office, cinema screen maybe etc.

Do you mind me asking what kind of cost estimate it was coming in at?

for a decent log type building about 30m2 with good insulation electric sound proofing etc etc etc was looking like minimum €75k and they hadn’t seen the site with that. Now I was probably over sourcing but…Company up north mentioned above seemed to be the most professional.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,781 ✭✭✭allybhoy

30m2 is absolutely huge… are you sure you need that much space? For reference my sim is 20m2 and there is more than enough room for a small gym, full dartboard with ochie etc and room for a couple of chairs on back wall. Happy to send on my quotation that i got if you need but it was less than a 1/3 of what your been quoted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 932 ✭✭✭higster

    yes please. Would appreciate that.

Look up golfsimsireland on intragram or that. I got a price of €35 gas for 16ft x 14ft but that didn't include sim taught a bit pricey. As ud do it urself way cheaper!
