Terrible suggestion. Kildare town only has one stop - why take that away?

I wonder if picking up at Tesco Newbridge followed by the Church, and skipping main st., could be an option?

Otherwise, adding some peak capacity and updating timetables to be more realistic seems to be their only option. Unfortunately traffic is only getting worse with the current Government's delivery record on infrastructure.

Was on the 171 van hool last night it was on the 726 towards Portlaoise

Two 181 Tourismo's on the 726 last night. The one I was on was the one with the cream seats. Rough as hell, but reasonably clean and on time.

They had two 161C VanHools at the red cow, seems like they were on hold or waiting for something. There was no route numbres on them. Perhaps they are holding there so they can substitute a service in case of disruption.

The sockets on the Altano don't work. They have decals on the side advertising plugs that have never worked since they started on the 600.

Could be wrong on this but it appears a lot of people were left behind at SETU from the 12:00 today. Tourismo coach was on it.

They seemed very busy for a bank holiday.

their timetable isn’t frequent enough- every two hours isn’t great. Im not a fan of the new downgraded buses, I knew they’d cause capacity problems at busy times. If it was full at SETU I can only imagine the numbers left behind at Waterford quays and Kilkenny then. Unless a lot got off there.
I find it very annoying when sockets don’t work for charging- so much of our travel lives revolve around phones and it’s very easy to be caught short

one of the TX was on the 1030 out of Portlaoise last night

I got the 3.45 am JJ kavannagh from Kilkenny last week- I was basically catching the morning ferry to Holyhead- so I wanted to get off city centre as per the timetable- anyhow got on and the driver tells me no can do - points to supposedly low fuel gauge and no one is booked on for the city centre. Anyhow rather than a big argument I just agreed to get off at the red cow Luas and got the 5.00 am Luas into the city with lots of time to spare - no big drama for me. But wondering is this something they can or should be doing? The bus is clearly timetabled via the city centre https://jjkavanagh.ie/timetables/main-routes-airport-routes/717-route-timetable/

No, clearly not but there is effectively no oversight of commercial licenced bus operators.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,480 ✭✭✭✭road_high

it didn’t bother me and I had time to kill so hopping on the Luas was no big deal but it might be a different story for other people

Very poor if a service is advertised to run to a stop and there is passengers intending to disembark then it should operate.

Do we know if any of the 7 Vanhool T16s of a large order for 2026 that Callinan received will go to DC or just free up some of the older fleet to transfer over?

i believe they have to go on to tour work for a year as part of a tax break of some sort

No, they'll be used to create a cascade of tours vehicles to CityLink, and other vehicles from CityLink to Dublin Coach.

I would say they won't start getting brand new vehicles until after the major surgery on the operation has been completed.

171G4231 has appeared on route 300. Only 171G4006 to appear and that's all the 171's. I heard the few 2018's will move over in a few months with i presume more 241's coming from tours to Citylink

the contract for the 310 has now been extended to April and it looks like bus eireann has now been awarded it be interesting to See if that fleet get sold off after

I was on a white Altano today and it was very nice inside particularly the seats. It's first coach I would rate above the Aytes.

They seem to have really stepped for student capacity by supplementing services either from Kilkenny or Waterford to Cork which is good to see.

I was on there 161TX it was on the 726 Saturday night and I found the seats very comfortable I wonder will we see any of the white buses on the 726 before April

I was in the red cow last week. There was quite the mix there. 161/181 tourismos on the 726/750. 161 is actually in very good condition. There were two Altanos on the 300, one was a 251 reg in full white. Having said that, the 252 actually didn't move while i was there.

They have withdrawn quite a few of the Mercs but the ones in the best condition will be some of the last vehicles to be replaced.

The focus was withdrawing vehicles based on order of their reliability and condition even if they will all get replaced in time.

Jesus the comments are a grim reflection of social media (and a minority of people)

You have to take into account what Facebook page it is as well to be fair. Attracts those types.

They're only a tiny minority, but Facebook - well into the latter stages of its death throes - is full of scum like that nowadays.
