There’s a good 5 part tik tok video of it by an installer in the UK- really it’s that video that has put me off it- you’re bang on about the sticky outy nature of it- but in addition to that, the lead doesn’t wrap neatly around the device no matter what you try- that would drive me berserk after a while - it’s a no from me for Zappi Glo for those 2 reasons - which is mad because it’s new and it’s smaller than traditional Zappi which should be a plus - bad design from a physical device usability perspective

I have a Zappi which stopped just after the 3 year warranty.

They offer a refurb one for c 350 plus shipping, I presume they just replace the PCB.

Isn’t it frustrating that this is just a glorified plug socket - it’s a fair whack out of your savings from having an EV vs ICE

Depends on the mileage, we do c 30,000 a year

Anyone have any dealings with the master plug charger ?

Have one just installed, purchased myself. I have spent all morning trying to connect in to WiFi with not joy. Tried the sync energy & monta apps. Searched online and tried different solutions with not joy.

Just to see if anyone here had the same issue and resolved it.

Have you completed the entire 'domestic commissioning' section of the manual, the 'Masterplug EV installer' app is required for initial setup.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Your an absolute gem. Thank you I didn't know that app existed. Blue light on the charger.Have the sync energy app up and running with the charger. Just need to get an EV now 😁

    Thank you very much.

Looks like a Sync Energy charger. Not bad for €300. Is it grant eligible?

It's masterplug branded and they point you to the sync energy app for set up. Thanks to @Buffman for pointing me to the setup app, they don't mention it in the booklet.

Good value for me as I am getting works done on the house so wired for a charger. Didn't apply for grant, just got the electrician to hook it up.

Yeah, it's not on the SEAI list. I just had a chat with SEAI.

Can anyone recommend a good brand for an EV charger or a good installer in Cork? Different salesment in different dealers seem to make different suggestions. A lot seem to use Zappi but I hear negative things about them. One installer here uses Hypervolt, I have read good things about these? First time EV owner here so I'm a bit apprehensive about the change. From reading back on this thread it seems like it could be a bit of a minefield.

Does this come with a CT back at the board for load management?

IMO what ever you get should have load management function with a CT fitted back at the consumer unit.

Typical house will have max kVA of 12 so assume power factor of 1 gives 12 kW

I have an elec shower which draws 9.2 and when my Zappi was working it drew 7.2 and when the OH fires up the hair drier: 2, room heater: 2 , heat roller: 1, the Zappi cut back on the 7.2 to keep it at or below 12.

In fact the installer set the max at 10.

I now have a 3.4 kW wall charger without any load management so I try to avoid shower plus EV

Hypervolt is what I recommend. I have a V2 model over 3 years and not a moment of trouble with it. It has load balancing and a reliable APP. They're not as common as Zappi, but I never hear of the Hypervolt having issues.

I've the Sync EV charger being installed next week. Hoping I can just have it "on" and I'll use the car schedule to change charging times, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,285 ✭✭✭MBSnr

Yeah you can set it to auto start when plugged in. The charger goes into pause mode if the car has a schedule set.

I have actually set a night time schedule window on the charger as well, just so that it will never charge during the day (regardless of any car plugged in). This stops any drain on the solar battery. If needed, I could use the app to override and charge immediately.

    Zappi warranty extension:

What’s the general consensus on the extended warranty option with MyEnergi ? €140 currently to extend from 3 years to 5 years. (Has to be taken out before the original 3 year warranty expires)

With a Zappi, and based on my experience, I’d pay it if I ever bought one again. But I’ve been moving away from Zappi in recent years.

I’ve had 3 of them fail. Customer care is great, but I’ve also got great customer care from OHME and Wallbox.

Basic installs are BgSync. Do exactly what they say on the tin.

Yard installs I’m buying second hand. I bought an EO Mini Pro for €75 last week. Great basic plug and play charger. No fancy shite to worry about.

Not for me, I'll rely on my statutory rights which are way more than 3 years

If looking for basic then a 32a commando socket is the most basic it gets, cheapest too by a long way

Just be aware no grant, probably does not meet regulations and has no load sensing so risk you will blow main ESB fuse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,031 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Can you expand on this proposed solution based on statutory rights ? I’d assume once it’s out of its 36month manufacturers warranty, MyEnergi may or may not assist with goodwill in the event of a fault. They have been known to offer refurbished units at a discounted rate but they’re not that cheap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,804 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

High chance it will fail after 3 years. If I had one, I'd pay it. I don't know if statutory rights would extend past 3 years for an EV charger and would like to know if anyone has challenged MyEnergi on that, considering how often they fail right outside of warranty.

Hence the comment basic, there are plenty of folk out there with no heatpump or electric shower that will never blow a standard 12kva esbn connection charging the car in the wee hours

I have Hyoervolt v3 and love it - love the simple lights on it which indicate different things like ready for charging, charging etc- the App is great too but I use my car settings so once I plug in the hyoervolt it defers to what my car wants to do and when .

Installed in a couple of hours - sorry can’t recommend a cork installer but can recommend the Hypervolt. When I was looking, a lot of installers were pushing zappi’s but that’s because it’s the only charger they’re familiar with installing 😀- it’s years old as a charger goes, and many people saying it’s failing just out of warranty - I’m all for going with the crowd for “tried and tested” as one of the sales pitches went, but really, hypervolt is superior in my view - also ratings wise, it was by far the highest best rated charger compared to the others out there .

I did my homework before coming here but @ghost above pretty much confirmed what I knew about the Hyervolt albeit I have the updated version (pro 3)
