I was in the same boat last week for an imoo watch. Order a lyca sim thinking grand 3gb for a fiver will work perfect. Nothing but trouble with the apn. Checking it out in an old Samsumg s20 I had flakey at best internet. The watch wouldn't even connect to the mobile network. I gave up after 4 hours of fecking about and got a Vodafone sim. My plan is to use the 5gb data addon for a fiver should do the job.

Yes, it seems hard to get one working. I'm not on Vodafone so can't get the Vodafone €5 deal. I might order the Lyca one and just see if I can get it working…I'll update here again if I do in case, it helps anyone else.

It's a prepaid deal cost Intial 25 for sim and credit. My plan is then just to use the 5 euro data on it.

Lyca is just terrible all round to deal with. Customer service said I was would be put on a priority list to solve my issue..... It's a week now and I haven't heard anything else from them. I think the issue could be to do with them switching from three to eir network and watches struggling with this. Maybe in the future it will be OK.

    Good luck

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice from some of you that might be a bit more clued in than I am about these things.

So I need to get a prepaid SIM for my alarm system, it's one of those systems that texts/calls you when it's activated. I first got it fitted nearly ten years ago, and I was supposed to keep the SIM topped up once a month, but sure I clean forgot all about it years ago lol and the number has since been deactivated.

So I need something that I can top up with a small amount, and the credits stays valid for as long as possible, so every 60 days or even 90 if that was possible, meaning I would only need to throw say a fiver on the SIM every few months just to keep it active.

Anyone know if any of the service providers that do such a thing?

    Cheers guys

Vodafone, need to top up every 6 months. Tesco is longer I think.

Thanks for that, we had a power cut here for a number of hours in the middle of the night Saturday night/Sunday early hours, and it's cost me dearly both financially and in time lol.

Alarm system went faulty - that was a call out from an engineer.

Gas Boiler, wouldn't come on/heat the water, sorted this myself, but was a few hours work.

Router needed to be factory reset.

Automatic gate had issues, engineer call out.

    /Puts on conspiracy hat...

Is it just coincidental that (personally speaking) we seem to be getting power cuts much more often these days since all the data centres opened 🤨

I would estimate we have had 4/5 inside the last year, when I could safely say we could have went years between power cuts before that, I'm talking decades at a time I think

More likely the increase of stroms and overhead network getting pulled down by trees. Really depends where you live.

Go into your local eir shop and get a prepaid sim with a €10 top up. Take note of the phone number and every 6 months get €5 credit in the shop and get the staff to apply it. Same with 3 or Vodafone and I'm sure their staff can also put through the credit for you once you know the number.

I can put credit on my Vodafone alarm SIM via their online site. No login or registration.

Looks like Gomo are no longer allowing existing Gomo sims to be ported over to eSim only (but they allow all other networks to be ported to eSim when joining Gomo). Which is a problem for my wife's new phone. Their recommendation is wait until this capability gets sorted out again - or leave to go to another network and then convert back as an eSim customer..

Doesnt look like Clearmobile do eSim either. And I dont think 48 do either. Any recommendations folks ?

That's disappointing. It used to be 2 years but you had to use it (i.e. receive a call) every 6 months

Trying to sign up to Clear mobile, I can't receive the verification code after inputting my number?

    Anyone else have this issue?

I only received that verification message after I put the new sim they sent, hope it helps!

we got 2 iMoo watches at Christmas and went with Clear Mobile, but got the Black Friday €9.99 deal. Bit dearer now. They work great though, no issues at all.

I switched to Tesco mobile, but my data seems to be stuck on "LTE", does it support 5G, or how can I enable 5G?

Which plan did you sign up to? There's the Prepay Data Plus that doesn't come with 5G and only 100GB of 4G data for €15pm on the website.

Then there's the Prepay Data Plus 5G that needs to be bought over the phone or in-store afaik. That plan comes with 5G unlimited data and is €15pm with a Clubcard.

Also ensure you're APN is set correctly - tescomobile.liffeytelecom.com

Not sure where else to post this, looking for some advice.

I bought a 12 month prepaid sim for my OH for xmas, she wants to keep her old number and she attempted the switch online on Wednesday but no joy, she rang lyca and they told her she would have to do it online, not sure if she told them she did attempt online.

I tried again online on Thursday and screenshotted the page saying the port in request had been received and it also had a reference number.

The number still hasn't switched over, is there any number I can ring on Monday or online chat I can go on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,109 ✭✭✭feargantae

What network is she coming from? Is she prepaid or postpaid? Single/multi line? Maybe the port failed as it should only take a couple of hours max if it's done during the week, minutes usually! Multi-line postpaid accounts can take longer though.

Lyca have live chat (here) available Mon-Sat 9-6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,414 ✭✭✭ooter

She is coming from eir and is payg so I'm assuming that's prepaid would that be correct?

Not sure what multi line means but I don't think it's that so must be single line.

I’m thinking of moving to a Sim only plan. I’ve an iPhone and travel a lot in Europe/ UK. I definitely need a package that includes calls and texts obviously to Irish numbers and also an allowance for international calls and texts. My main requirement though is data. I absolutely need roaming. Also is there any plan with any company that would allow me to add on roaming if for instance I’m going outside the EU? That would only be occasionally though. I’m currently with Vodafone and to be fair to them I’m getting all of that already but I just find them so expensive and it increases every year. Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking of changing to Eir payg?

What I want is txt and calls over WiFi because I don't have any mobile coverage at home.

How long can I leave it between top ups? I hardly ever use the phone for making calls so ideally only want to top up to keep the account and incoming calls active.

Can I for example get away with toping up every other month?

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭NotShero

Yeah that would be Prepaid/PAYG Single Line, no account number should be asked for.

You can ring them on 1923 or 01 437 2322 or get talking to them on Live Chat, that was posted above.

In the Eir T&Cs it says -

"We may terminate Prepay Services if you fail to top up the Service by a minimum of €5.00 of purchased call credit at least once every one hundred and fifty (150) days"

Sorry, yes. Prepaid means PAYG and postpaid means billpay. Multi-line accounts have multiple numbers on them, like a business or family plan.

The only other thing I could think of that might cause the port to fail is putting down prepay registered versus unregistered. Did she register on my.eir.ie? If so she's prepay registered. I'm not sure if Lyca even checks that as some networks like Vodafone skip that altogether for PAYG.

Put a fiver on every 5 months and you'll be fine. We can reactive a number in eir even if it's been inactive for a year so it's not too big of a job.
