PgDip Nursing (Adult) in the UK

Has anyone completed a PgDip Nursing (Adult) in the UK? I have a Bachelor of Commerce degree and MSc in Human Resource Management so I am looking at the accelerated route to become a nurse. I am looking to clarify the following:

    • Whether this qualification is recognized in Ireland?
    • Whether anyone has experience with NMBI registration with a PG Dip?
    • Whether a PG Dip meets standards? The course has the 4600 theory/clinical hours (2300 each) but it is over a 24 month period rather than a 3 year study

Would appreciate any help at all with this

I'm not much help (I qualified in the UK when dinosaurs still roamed the Earth) but I'd suggest dropping NMBI, the NMC and the University your looking to do this course at an email asking them.

As long as it's an accredited course deemed good enough to get you on the register in the UK it should be good enough to transfer here. Whilst NMBI will look at the academic side of things the NMC registration will be of most interest to them. You would need to work a year in the UK before you apply to get on the Irish register these days though afaik.

All that in 2 years will definitely tell you if you really want to be a nurse anyway. Good luck!

Hi Tom, thank you so much for your reply. I have been in contact with the NMBI but they say that they treat every application on a case by case basis so they don't/can't advise on whether any course is acceptable or not prior to application to register with the NMBI. I do plan to work in the UK for a while after so hopefully this would help also. Thanks again, much appreciated!

No evidence to support this but I'd be very (very) confident once you're on the UK register you should have no issue registering here, best of luck with the course and your career in Nursing.
