Ah, the Witcher 3. One of those games that I'd love to have a head injury, forget all about it, and play it for the first time again. Easily game of the year when it came out, and then the Blood And Wine expansion would have been game of the year when it came out, except it was an expansion.

Would also be in the conversation for game of the 2010s as well.

There's definitely a clunkiness to the combat, and the introduction is a bit of a chore, but once it opens up your into a game that has left in indelible mark on the gaming landscape.

I always think it's worth attempting to play games that are wayposts in gaming history, and this is definitely one of them.

The hearts of stone expansion of nowhere near as generous as the other expansion, but it does contain an excellent storyline, and one of the best antagonists going.

TW3 - I got as far as Novigrad and got sick of the inventory menu stuff. Definitely need to go back to it. Maybe watch some videos to cut out any busy work I may not need to do.

I was actually thinking the other day about what would I consider the best DLCs ever, and I narrowed it down to Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, Bloodborne The Old Hunters, and Cyberpunk2077 Phantom Liberty.

I think the amount of content in it, the story, the characters, and how well it all blends into the main story of the main game, it's just so damn good. The effect may be lessened somewhat by playing it so long after the main game and trying to get back into that world, but I really enjoyed every bit of it.

I thought you'd be too busy. As you previously said you love sneaking up behind people and whacking them over the head with a shovel. 🤣🧐

Thanks for the heads up. Loved the demo and was looking forward to the game!

I took the plunge, 30 euro with 10% discount so 27 seems like a great price. Looking forward to getting stuck in.

Cairn is SO good. Great mix of chill and tense gameplay where even just finding a resting point is highly rewarding, nevermind reaching a summit. I played a bit of Jusant and Cairn plays much better.

Anyone else give the new Nioh 3 demo a go? It's bloody excellent! Game is out on PC and PS5 Feb 6th, the PC version can be got for 30 quid cheaper on Loaded (cdkeys) compared to Steam and PSN prices so can't refuse that kind of discount. Will need FigthingCowboy to explain half the systems in the game to me but the combat is so satisfying, excellent flow to it switching between Samurai and Ninja on the fly.

Have it downloaded and looking forward to trying it but not until I finish Cronos The New Dawn and RDR Undead Nightmare.

Im brutal for jumping around to other games.

Nioh 2 is one of the all time greats. Probably won’t get around to the third one for a while but there is a lot of positive feedback around it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 HopingforNewZ

I put about 70 hours into the original Nioh and never finished it. I know it’s great to have loads of side stuff and the gameplay is generally excellent but I ran out of steam playing it and never went back.

I played about an hour of Nioh 2 recently and it’s much the same good stuff but I don’t know if I’m bothered.

Hogwarts Legacy is so good. I'm loving it. Just what I needed as I loved the old Harry Potter games. It was a great idea to have the Hogwarts world without HP as they have been done many times and it would have been much the same.

One thing I don't like about the game is they have the wrong stairs. Previous games they had the correct moving stairs. Maybe it was deliberate as you would have had to wait till the stairs moved in the correct position to continue on.

One thing they done better than the old was the spells in the old games you had to do the correct movement to cast the spell each and every time which can get annoying.

I found Nioh 2 a little too fiddly with its mechanics, builds and inventory to really get into it. I’d finished the first but the second sort of doubled down on elements I didn’t really like about the first, at least in the few hours I played.

Will definitely give the third one a go though as there’s a demo. I think the Team Ninja Soulslike don’t have that layer of artistry and vision that really elevates a Fromsoft game, but they can be good fun as pure combat RPGs.

With the upcoming rumoured release of The Division 1 definitive edition, i had a look on the ps store and saw the base game is part of ps I'm plus extra which i knew but the gold edition (all expansions including the brilliant Survival mode) is 'free'. I just added it to my library. I only owned survival, but the other dlc, anyone else seeing it as free?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,959 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Just got it myself there via the app.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,802 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Ok, definitive edition of The Division 1 is now on the store for 50 euro. The gold edition is showing as 50 now as well (they are the exact same) so i went to my library and the gold edition i claimed for free last week is now showing as a trial. Not a huge deal, the base game is still part of plus and i own survival, that's reason enough to give it another go.

Worth a try. The gold edition no longer exists for me, just the definitive edition for €50 and the one I got yesterday is the trial/PS+ version now too.

You never get nawtin for free!

You never get nawtin for free!

Unless you play games on PC then you get free games nearly every odd day.

    https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-division-definitive-edition-released-even-though-ubisoft-never-announced-it/1100-6537859/

Ubisoft has released The Division: Definitive Edition, although that may come as a surprise as the company never officially announced it.

After being spotted in the wild in Japan, some theorized that the Definitive Edition might be a remaster of sorts for the 2016 game for its 10th anniversary. However, the Definitive Edition is actually a new $50 version of the game that includes the game's previously released expansions, Underground, Survival, and Last Stand, along with weapon skins and gear sets.

The Definitive Edition store page does not mention any graphical upgrades, but people playing on Xbox Series X|S or PS5 may see improvements due to upscaling on those systems. The store pages also do not list off any new features or improvements. The game was originally released for Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2016. The Division's new Definitive Edition does not appear to be available on Steam.

Seems like a shadow drop of an edition of the game featuring all DLC.

It's such a weird one as The Gold edition has always existed and that is now gone, replaced by this. There were rumors that a mode would be added to enable 1hit kills and remove bullet sponges which sounds brilliant and thought the definitive edition make up would help move that but if it's safe ol', no idea what Ubi is up to. Saying that, base edition is free on ps plus extra and it's an absolutely brilliant game.

”No idea what Ubi is up to”

I mean, that’s pretty much the company’s core identity these days :)

Hopefully all those closures and layoffs were to concentrate on releasing the Black Flag remake!

Finished the Nioh 3 demo, which is basically the first 5-6 hours of the game - the tutorial section and then an 'open field' area with lots to explore. Between this and Metaphor Refantazio a while back, great to see these generous demos that really give you a sense of how the full game plays.

Have to say I was really getting into the groove with it by the end, albeit after a ruthless final boss (both mandatory bosses in the demo are really bloody difficult). It has the same frustrations as the previous games - namely far too much loot (in fact, you now have two entirely separate builds to constantly micromanage) and the sense that there are few too many fiddly mechanics and systems to keep on top of. That said, the gameplay has never felt quite as smooth and responsive as it does in the new open areas. Definitely Team Ninja embracing the speed of classic Ninja Gaiden there. It inevitably lacks the surprise and mystery of a Fromsoft game, but there's lots to do and find even if quite a bit of it is of the enemy gauntlet / enemy base variety.

The new ninja playstyle is excellent, and my preferred way to play most of the time, though some of the mechanics - including the main counter attack - do require you to switch between the two main playstyles, which can get somewhat hectic in the heat of battle.

Not sure if I'll be jumping at €80 this weekend, but definitely will be keeping an eye out for the first sale.

There is literally no game I have ever played where "1.2% increase to dexterity" has made a difference.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 31,418 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

Nioh is particuarly egregious because you end up with 20 copies of the same leg armour, all with fiddly little differences and stats. I've seen some comments from Nioh fans online like 'oh the loot system only really gets good in NG+' and there's nothing that sets off an alarm quite like a key system only "getting good" in NG+.

It's a shame, because I do really like the game, just wish I wasn't constantly being bombarded with rarity colours.

Think I'm at one of those bosses too, much more difficult than any other enemy so far. Ninja style is great fun, I find myself using that a lot more than samurai too. If you're talking about the burst counter also switching playstyles - there's a setting in Controls to separate those two actions (Style Shift & Burst Break separation) - turn that On and tapping R2 will burst counter whereas holding R2 will switch styles, it's much better that way. There's also a setting to auto pick-up items when you run over them, very handy.

I agree with the too much loot comment, way too much, but I just sort by level and equip whatever does more damage and doesn't weight too much (for now at least). You can also exchange gear for Amrita or dismantle it at the blacksmith. Too scabby to pay 80 quid for it too but the PC version can be gotten for cheaper. Tis great fun though, the open world-ish nature of that first map is great - less likely to get stuck with a difficult enemy blocking your progress.
