Yeah I'm getting the same error. I signed up a few days ago and my number was supposed to be ported over from Vodafone this morning, but it hasn't. I was able to register my account this morning on Clear, but I'm getting that error message when I tried to log in.

A relation is in Prague. No data at all. Has the APN changed, tried automatic off and manual selection, 5G to LTE/4G, data roaming switch on, rebooting etc. Still nothing. Says no bars on any of the networks.

I advised them to contact ClearMobile online chat.

But just wondering if anyone had similar issue whilst roaming ?

Happened me on my first rep abroad with them. Contacted their chat and they sent a text with new settings etc. All back and running within minutes.

I signed up last month and on Saturday was in NI for the first time since the change. Despite having changed the APN after the network switch, the phone remained on Edge coverage for a long time. I pulled in to investigate, added the APN details to the "LTE" field (it's an iPhone, and that field was marked optional) and restarted the phone. I also tried manual network selection. Nothing helped immediately, but about 5 minutes later, the phone picked up a proper 4G signal and subsequently 5G as I got to a more urban location.

I can't tell which of my changes, if any, helped. I can believe that it might have come good in the same timeframe even if I'd done nothing. It's even possible that this is a first-roaming-session quirk. But: on crossing the border coming home, I had a 5-10 minute period of no data too (Edge coverage once more). For context, this journey is a regular one for me and my previous network was Vodafone, so there I would have expected no differences in coverage on crossing the border. I'm very curious whether this delay is going to be a regular thing.

Turns out they forgot to change the APN before leaving. And then only changed it over there. And that didn’t work. Possibly it needs to be set in Ireland before leaving?

So they ended up getting a small cheap data eSIM (GoMoWorld I believe).

No as I got a text when I arrived abroad advising me to change it (although I already had it changed)

FYI I received the same message when I landed abroad and had already changed the APN but it still didn't work. Used live chat with them once in a wifi area and they sent me a download link that sorted it.

So I just moved my main number from ClearMobile to GoMo.

Have a GoMo sim since Black Friday so on the €12.99 price.

Speeds from my own house are over 400Mbps down and 50Mbps up. So happy enough with that. Also I spot checked various locations I frequent and speeds were acceptable there too, obviously some lower and some higher.

I think the random account login issues, although not service impacting, just didn’t sit great with me.

And issues some experience with data abroad. Almost reminds me of the roaming woes 48 went through. Although possibly not on the same scale. But I just want something that works “out of the box”.

Also 2FA to login. Good. But what if you’re abroad with no service and need to access your account? Hmm wouldn’t that be an issue?

And conversely with GoMo it offers WiFi sms … The GoMo WiFi Calling service allows you to make and receive calls and SMS over any Wi-Fi connection. This should allow you to make and receive calls and SMS in poor or no mobile coverage areas.

Don’t get me wrong. The ClearMobile offer is still excellent. Especially the €9.99 deal. In fact I still have a sim that I use as a backup to WiFi. I ran a months test using it and used 1.2TB without any sweat.

Anyhow just my humble opinion. YMMV :-)

I'm up in NI today, first time roaming since changing over to Clear, and it's worked perfectly.

Thanks to those on this thread who provided the info, I had the settings changed already, but I got two texts from Clear as soon as I changed network with all the information needed.

I really can't fault them on anything so far.

Has anyone tried to pause their plan if you're going abroad for 2/3 months? I assume they don't allow it as it's a rolling contract but never know.

Was over in london for the long weekend, the Vodafone network is just shocking over there, either 5G or E, 5G is mainly in central London, but once you go into a shop or on the underground its back on E or no signal, my wife and daughter are with Clear also, and I set my daughters phone up on manual and my wife's on automatic and more often than not my wife had no signal at all, while both my daughter and I had 4G with EE all the time.

This definitely seems to be a vodafone network problem in the UK, as a friend of mine was in Belfast for the weekend also and he is with Vodafone and he only had E for the whole weekend up the North, he obviously wasn't aware of changing the network selection form Automatic to manual

My main reason for leaving GoMo for Clear was because of roaming issues, so I hope that's not why you left Clear. I was with Meteor/Eir/Gomo for last 10-12 years and I could see the service deteriorate rapidly over the last few years. Trust me, I put up with it for long enough. Just because you have 5G showing on your screen certainly doesn't mean you have good internet.

I just joined Clear Mobile last night, I'm coming from Eir. It was a toss up between them & Gomo but I wanted to try the Vodafone network. I was worried about the speed capped at 25mbps, reading the comments on here that is not the case & you can achieve higher speeds, correct?

Obviously depends on the quality of the Vodafone network where you are, but no limit in place. Just did a quick test here, I got 394 mb/s down and 41 up.

That's class, I picked next Wednesday to switch over. It's a pity they don't have eSIM but hopefully it will come in the next couple of weeks. I presume I don't need to ring Eir to let them know I'm cancelling my 30 day eir connect contract & Clear Mobile will do it for me?

Just port your number to Clear mobile, your existing account will cease.

I was the same re eir network. Clear has it's faults but I'm finding the service better than gomo.

I joined GoMo from Clear to have the WiFi calling with SMS. An important factor.

I don’t like that the ClearMobile needs 2FA. Done in most scenarios, but what if abroad with no service and need to access your account?

Anyhow I still have a clearmobile sim that I use in a secondary phone. My main phone is now GoMo. I also have a sleeping Three sim and Vodafone sim.

I received my SIM today, I didn't expect to get it that quick, I only ordered it Tuesday night. My number won't change over till Wednesday, I was afraid if I picked sooner & the SIM didn't arrive that I would be left without service, this is also another advantage of esims. It's a shame they can't do it over live chat if you want to do the switch earlier, unless you're with Vodafone or An Post. Guess I'll have to wait till Wednesday 😂

Yeah the 2fa to access your account all the time with Clear isn't ideal, I guess I never really gave much consideration to that ok as I rarely use sms, its mainly just imessage and whatsapp, but as you point out 2fa is sms dependant. 3 months on from moving from GoMo, the only issues that Ive encountered with Clear to date is having to take switch from automatic network selection to manual while roaming, but so far Ive only roamed in the UK, ill be heading further afield next month so I'll see how that goes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 925 ✭✭✭ECookie13

Yeah they really need to remove that 2FA request to access your account as the text doesn't come in half the time. They also need to make some improvements to the account section in general, it's very buggy.

It's not possible with Clear as it's a rolling 30 day contract. Youd need to port onto eir/3/Vodafone prepay and pay €10 for a sim. That'll keep the number active for the 3 months, and then you can switch back to Clear when you're home.

If you're on a priceplan with Clear that isn't available anymore (€9.99) then it's probably better to just keep it going for the 3 months as the savings are still more, longterm.

Just came back from Poland, roaming experience with isp.clearmobile.ie was perfect in terms of data apart from the fact that I couldn't manually select a network, I was stuck with Plus which was awful in terms of coverage but this isn't a Clear issue as my dad is with Vodafone directly and had the same problem.

Another issue that arose is that text messages from +48 (Polish) phone numbers don't come in at all, but this isn't a Clear issue either, as my dad with Vodafone didn't receive any 2FA texts either…

Good to hear, just had a look at OpenSignal and yeah it looks like Plus is a fairly poor network.

    https://insights.opensignal.com/reports/2025/11/poland/mobile-network-experience

Any idea if Eir or Three allow roaming on T-Mobile ?

It may not be a ClearMobile issue per say, but then it's a Vodafone issue, or maybe call it a weakness. But nonetheless it exists.

Not receiving 2FA texts is a big enough issue too.

Not that I visit Poland much. However I may have reason for that situation to change this year.

How does this compare to other Irish networks? Do they all roam on Plus also? Any first hand experience?
