    Update from FCC not dated.

    • Road opening expected in Q4 2025/Q1 2026.
    • Traffic diversion in place at Barberstown Lane South on new road.
    • Road pavement surfacing in final stages of completion.
    • Landscaping, road markings and signage in final stages of completion.
    • Commissioning activities associated with traffic signals, public lighting and watermain have advanced in recent weeks but remain in progress.  This activity is dependent on ESB power connection works being completed.

I don't know about engineering but I think the water mains is not a delay as the pipes are already in place - hardly going to build a road and dig it up, before it opens, to put in pipes. In a similar way, I would think the contractor has all electrical cables in place and ESB need to do the last metre to connect up.

Project update from 25 June 2025 gave a completion of Q3 2005. This will now probably be Q1 2026 or three month's slippage in what should have been the last three months of the project.

The traffic lights are now operating at the southern end of the scheme. That suggests an imminent opening.

Could be waiting on someone to cut the ribbon

Just open the bloody road for goodness sake! Can we not do anything on time/ budget in this country?

It's hard to tell what's left to build.. the "landscaping" doesn't look completely finished, maybe they'll add a few more trees.

A couple of weeks ago, when out walking by the southern end, I was told by one of the project staff that it was basically just waiting for the traffic lights to get juiced up. Given the season, you'd certainly be surprised if any work was done until New Year, but, in theory, they just need to remove the barriers and reprogram the lights to add the sequences for the blocked movements.

Surely, the lights sequence is known and it's push a button. Instead they decided to press the off switch as the lights are off.

The lights have been working for a week or so. But the phases that would point traffic down the closed section are not operating (or perhaps they are and the relevant bulbs are disabled).

And yes, I have to imagine that the required phasing changes can be done any time they choose.

That Barberstown lane is not fit cars even with the passing spaces they've added. What are they doing with the crossing?

The unimproved section is just as bad as it ever was - but the plan for the railway crossing doesn't involve that section. It will tee off the south arm of the eastern roundabout and cross canal and railway a little further south than the current crossing.

It has massive pot holes at the sides now which it didn't last time I was on it.

While I think it could be opened at this stage, it will not make much difference in travel time (a minute or two). The building of the roundabout near the Gallops made a big difference by significantly reducing/eliminating queues at that junction.

It will make a big difference to many journeys, like Snugborough Road to Lucan. In particular, it eliminates a lot of bendy back road from such a journey.

They should have built the new roads before they created all the traffic on those old roads.

I can see myself using it to get from Clonsilla to Catherine’s Park or even Clonsilla to Westmanstown, certainly not a more direct route but if the train line is down for 5 to 10 mins will save me time hopefullly!

I'm not entirely sure it makes any difference to those journeys. That said I don't know the subtleties of those routes, or peak traffic flow.

A safe, straight road with good sight lines makes a difference straight away. And that’s before the time savings that certain journeys should certainly see.

Are FCC still prepping and ironing that ribbon?

I will make a big difference when they close the level crossing at Clonsilla to facilitate Dart West.

This article from The Indo today says it will open some time in Q1 so not really narrowing it down to a specific date or even a month...

I think there will be very little difference (1or 2 minutes) for journeys from Clonee or Littlepace. I have no idea of the number which goes Clonsilla - Strawberrybeds - Lucan. If they switch to the new bridge, then the queue at Laraghcon will get even worse. Those going towards Knocknamaroon Hill, from Clonsilla, will probably use the bridge near LCC or go through Carpenters town.

Btw, I've heard 13 February as opening date.

Yeah..local councillors now confirming Feb 13th as opening date on their socials too.

Too much to expect Fingal to update their web page.

Is this still on schedule for opening on Friday 13th?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 wirecotton

I believe so, I passed by earlier loads of workers in the vicinity and at the nearby junctions. I assume they're prepping it for friday or figuring out how they can give themselves a few more months of work down there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 159 ✭✭Pale Red

    Opening Friday afternoon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,528 ✭✭✭rameire

    Just checked the area.

Concrete barriers removed from south part of road.

Red overhead wire warning bumpers removed.

Looks tidy, good bit of work surrounding roads need completing and fixing
