I thought we won more over the top teams in the table than the lower sides.

Has to be such a confidence booster for the players, that's 2 top teams we've beat that are going for the title.

Im hoping we keep the same going on throughout the season. Its the lower teams we've lost more points than the top end.

We've had a good week but this level of nonsense is just self serving gibberish.

A lot of rewriting history going on is all I'm saying. We've been good going forward all season folks. Lets just wait and see how things go over the next few weeks. I would love Carrick to turn out to be the real deal and get the gig.

Its a point i said earlier. Its the lower teams we've lost the amount of points on. Next couple of games and reassess

Massive credit to INEOS. After horrendous signings for over a decade, we already have big hits in Mbeumo and Cuhna. Lammens, Mazaroui, De Ligt, Sesko, Dorgu, Yoro, Heaven and Zirkzee have all looked promising in spells too. Most have either held their value or it has increased. This is a stark contrast to the madness of the Woodward/Glazer regime. It's very clear that the money is being spent a million times better and that's way more important than whoever the manager is in the moment.

    Dorgu.

What the actual hell was going on with having him all this time playing off the shoulder of a third centre back?

Even apart from his insane goal he was having a cracking game.

In two games against the top two in the league he has looked as good as anyone and better than most. That includes Saka, Semenyo and Doku.

    Unreal step up from him.

Great to be able watch the team trying to play positive football the way you'd expect a United team to play.

Also the difference in our middle of the park since Mainoo came in and Bruno pushed forward is massive.

Mainoo's technical ability in tight spaces is something Ugarte just doesn't have. Hopefully we can build a proper middle of the park around him

Games until March 1st look like we could get lots of points. Easier said then done of course but look - tremendous start for Carrick. Superb stuff and fight in that team this week.

Enjoy work tomorrow and have a great week 🫡

Great result and 3 well taken goals. No Zirkzee in the squad, was he injured/on the way out?

He was a victim of his own skill set, pace and energy. All the numbers had him as the ideal wing back but numbers can't make soup

13 points from that and I reckon we’ll be well in pole position for the top 4 in the last 10 games.

Between the win, beating the league leaders / arteta, the 3 lads scoring and fat Craig having another meltdown, coms tomorrow is going to be sensational.

Also Maguire and Martinez. Better than three CBs ever were.

Will be interesting to see what Carrick does with him in games against weaker teams that will sit in and defend. His own Boro team had Ryan Giles at LB playing like a LW to add width out wide while the LW drifted in centrally to become a second 10.

Wonder if we could see Dorgu used at LB in some games with Cunha or Amad at LW if Mbeumo moves to RW for Sesko to start. Though I do think Mbeumo is going to play more games at CF between now and then with Amad at RW.

We need to take full advantage of the weeks breaks when it comes to casemiro. He has been excellent recently and everything needs to be done to insure he can be all guns blazing on matchday.

Saw it mentioned recently and agree, if we can get another midfielder in on loan until the rest of the season it would help. Focus on picking up one of Anderson or Wharton in the summer then.

Casemiro seems to have lost a stone of fat and replaced it with a stone of muscle. He looks to be in such a better condition.
I believe there was a pre season friendly against Real Madrid a few years ago where ancelotti was joking with Cas about the size of his belly.

Well I haven't seen it discussed too much in here so I might as well ask because it'll inevitably be a thing.

At what point does Carrick have to be considered a possible permanent manager?

When the word first came out that Ole and Carrick were the likely interim options, I initially wanted Ole. Not because he was necessarily a much stronger option, but because I thought he could stabilise us and get us Europe. And because I thought he'd be easier to say no to in the long term even if he did well, simply because he's been down this road before and it ended in the sack.

There just wasn't the same "what if" question with Ole because we've already answered it.

With Carrick, I was OK with the appointment but on the condition that we didn't jump to conclusions after a good spell and give him the job based purely on a good run and "feels".

    But...

Michael Carrick now has 5 games as interim coach, in 2 different spells. He is undefeated with 4 wins and 1 draw. Under him United have won away in Europe, beaten Arsenal home and away, beaten City and drawn with Chelsea at the Bridge.

We have 15 games left this season. How many of those do we win before we have no choice but to see him as a viable contender? 8? 10? Secure top 4? At what point do we have to forget about just a new manager bounce and consider that maybe he's got something to offer in the long term? Or do we rule him no matter what based on the principle of what happened in the end with Ole (who let's not forget would have won the title if not for City's doping)?

The other question is whether he wants the job permanently of course but nobody knows that but him. Ole did say himself that Carrick would be the manager some day.

When the season is over and none of Tuchel, Nagelsmann, and I'll throw Emery in there are gettable then I'd like to see Carrick considered depending on what also happens between now and the end of the season.

I'd say he'll snap your hand off for the job permanently. Because what other offers would he really be getting. I think one of the main reasons he's jumped at this chance is because it was his best opportunity to get himself offers from PL teams. Iraola could leave in the summer. Bournemouth could be looking at these games thinking we're well run and he's did well maybe he could be a good appointment.

If INEOS had no plans to get someone in then the buzz from these last two games will hopefully have change their minds. They did meet with Carrick after the City game to talk about it I believe. Hopefully something comes from it.

Of course it would be very "this season's United" to go out next and lose 1:0 to Fulham & Spurs and then the Carrick talk goes away lol.

Watching MOTD2 and have to say Wazza is turning into a decent pundit.

Analysed the Utd game very well, similar to what Patrick Viera said after the game,Utd made it difficult for Arsenal to play their tiki-taka in midfield and Zubimendi and Odegard struggled to get into the game.

Lammens settles the defence so well,Maguire and Shaw were outstanding throughout,Dorgu is turning into a real player,Mbuemo and Cunhas finishes were excellent.separated by a real pearler from Dorgu!💥⚽️👏……

And Carricks substitutions were the right ones and at the right times……although I thought myself Casemiro looked gassed after 70 mins and needed replacing.

It’s important imo to get a decent midfielder in on loan till end of Season if at all possible,in case Casemiro or Mainoo pick up an injury.

Douglas Luiz is available, although it looks like Chelsea have him cornered…..need a tough experienced player of his ilk.

The real test is ahead……starting by beating an in-form Fulham side next week.

Yeah - I think its silly to rule out Carrick entirely from consideration, but its far too early to talk about it. No one is going to steal Carrick away so we can wait and see how things go by the end of the season. I liked that Carrick made a point to the reporter today that he wouldn't be answering questions about a permanent role every week. The club needs to shut that nonsense down from reporters.

There is a perfectly good outcome where Carrick secures top 4 football for United, the club decide to go another way with a bigger name and Carrick has a great chance to get a job at another PL club on the back of turning United around. Everyone still wins.

Casemiro is going to be a hard player to replace - fukn magnificent he was today. We'll need to break the bank to get either Anderson or Kone in the summer. And Carrick pushing for the winner and getting it 3 mins after they equalise? Fantastic.

You know i wasn't really bothered if Arsenal won the league but man, that's some ugly football they play. Goals from rushing the box at a corner and an OG? I'd rather Villa won it, even if meant Sancho got a medal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,600 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

And for that reason alone we don't need to start talking about Carrick as a contender for the permanent role for a while yet.

I am of the opinion that we need to go and get the most elite level manager we can get right now and try to push forward with building the squad out.

Carrick can absolutely play himself into contention for the role. However it would need to be an extremely impressive run in.

I will say though what I seen against City and today against Arsenal. Can't really ask for much more. They were superb twice.

I hope they are at the same level over the next 3 "lesser" games as well. If Carrick cracks that then we might have something to talk about as fans but I do still feel we have to go as elite as we possibly can

I think you're bang on but I think it's totally disrespectful for nevile and Keane to say what they said this evening after the game. Keane I can overlook as sour grapes it's what he is known for.

If anything I think it's gone make fans get behind Carrick even more. If things continue as they are(they may not) we will end up in a situation where you can not give Carrick the job same as last time. Example... Results are good, players want him and fans are happy... You can't turn around and say oh we gave ole the job 7 years ago.
