Well it's not specifically Ramsey that is the issue. It's the whole group of squad players. They are clearly on the outside of the first team, no matter what sort of performances or training level they put in. And they can watch underperforming players within that first team group start every week without fail. It's very much 'us' and 'them'.

Gomez, Endo, Chiesa etc all fall into this category and even Rio & Nyoni too. Robertson could feel like he should be playing more but is not given the opportunity to. Curtis Jones probably thinks he should be playing more.

As a result, Frimpong will break down eventually, Konate could break down. Szoboszlai could break down and so might Ekitike through overplaying.

Gomez, how can he be played more when he is always injured? When Chiesa came on last week against Burnley all he did was give away stupid fouls, that has nothing got to do with getting enough minutes. How can you trust a player when chasing a game that gives away stupid fouls. On Rio and Nyoni, are there bodies up to the physicality of the league these days. All these youngsters that Klopp gave a chance to seem to be permanently injured these days, they are not making much of an impression anyway.

Chelsea cruising to victory pushes us into 5th.

Our form suggests we should be bottom half, or at least mid-table.

Those first 5 wins doing a serious ammount of heavy lifting.

Gomez is well able to start 1 game a week at CB. He was unlucky yesterday in that he was taken out. He was also more than capable of replacing Konate earlier in the season when Konate was playing very badly, but he didn't. That was a clear message being sent by Slot that Konate was untouchable and that Gomez wasn't going to play.

IMO Jones should have been starting ahead of MacAllister a few times this season too.

Chiesa isn't great from the start at all, but there have been games this season where we have been starting midfielders and RBs as part of the front 3. It's another clear message to Chiesa that he is never going to start for Slot. As a result in the limited time he does play, he does come across over eager. He actually only gave away 1 foul against Burnley.

Shaqiri & Origi didn't light up the world for us under Klopp but they played a massive part in big wins because Klopp gave them the confidence to do so.

Only 3 points off 10th and currently closer to 15th than 3rd. We're midtable in spirit 😆

How can Gomez play one game a week when he is constantly injured? And also this constant comparison to Klopp is tiresome. Who ever was to replace klopp was never going to be as good as him. He was a generational manager. Klopp was unreal but had plenty of flaws as well. He flogged Fabinho, henderson and Mane(to name a few) to death that their careers fell off a cliff well before time. Are we going to turn into Man Utd harping on about the past and comparing everything to what fergie did. One other thing,i see trent has been injured for most of this season and had two lay offs last season. Is it a coincidence or a result of playing too much too young,

Will always remember Shaqiri and Origi in this game. We put out a pretty weakened lineup against Everton in 19/20 (Salah, Firmino, Henderson on the bench, Ali injured). There was some trepidation over it before the game. We wiped the floor with them.

We could definitely do without the frequent trips down memory lane and constant references to Klopp.

I think people are wrong when they criticise the Isak signing. It was and is a good signing.

There is absolutely no reason why we couldn’t have ALSO signed defensive players. We messed around at CB and paid the price. We let Quansah go before having a replacement.

It was the form of the teams around us rather than our own form. Chelsea and Utd could find a bit momentum and then we are completely exposed.

This, signing isak and strengthening at the back shouldn't be linked, they should be judged separately.

We have the option of bringing him back for £51 million in 2027. But he should never have been sold, he'd have got plenty of game time at centre back and right back this season.

Another one Slot didn't fancy after half a game at Ipswich before not giving him a look in again intil bizarrely playing him right back against Newcastle 4 months later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,852 ✭✭✭✭noodler

It's very important to realize how quick something he built and maintained for 8 years has been jettisoned in half a season.

It's a stick to beat Slot but its important to point out we had an identity before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭hawaii501

Obviously hindsight plays apart but it was ridiculous letting Quansah go as Gomez can't be relied upon as 4th CB.

And then it's only Leoni who's young and in his 1st season in England.

Slot man management is shocking, gives out about tiredness yet never plays his fringe players.

Great Season last year but sooner the better Alonso is hired, at least we'll be enjoyable to watch again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭Ken Tucky

I dunno, I think all lot of us were happy enough with the money we got for Quansah. He was never getting a chance with Slot.

And I'm not sure he is all that good. Maybe will develop nicely. Hopefully as he seems a decent lad.

Its been a messy disaster really. Im not into sacking managers like the rest of yall but something isn't right. If Alonso is good to go the club should do it.

We probably dont have enough CB's for him at the moment to play his system

  • Administrators Posts: 56,308 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

I have no issue selling Quansah.

But we should not have been going into deadline day with no CB signed. It’s not as if deals collapsing on deadline day is unprecedented.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,174 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Yeah the problem wasn't selling Quansah,it was not replacing him

My issue was more that he wasn't replaced, tried with Guehi but failed. We are now down to 2 cbs.

The money offered for him was probably the reason he was sold as Slot didn't have him as part of his plans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭Ken Tucky

    True lads

I wanted Guehi more than Isak. Went to bed thinking both were i the bag.

When i woke up I and got the news I was fuming

And we still have done sweet FA about it

It'll be a struggle to get CL again.

United look like a team again. Well able for Arsenal here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,547 ✭✭✭kingshankly

was just looking at the table there Everton are only four points behind us with a game in hand 🙈

  • Administrators Posts: 56,308 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

United look like a brand new team.

The notion that you can’t get rid of a manager without having an obvious replacement ready to go is fairly being tested…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,374 ✭✭✭brevity

if Utd win, I wonder will we hear Gerrard’s music.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,174 ✭✭✭giveitholly

might be the best thing to happen, might speed up things a bit

  • Administrators Posts: 56,308 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

I wouldn’t for a second have him near the place but I think United might be evidence that sometimes getting rid of a manager who isn’t working out can be beneficial even if the replacement is only someone temporary.

In our case I think the replacement would be obvious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,374 ✭✭✭brevity

The football drama side of me would be interested to see how it would all unfold. I think it would be a disaster though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,539 ✭✭✭✭rob316

And so the tumble down the table begins with a horrible set of fixtures ahead.

Klopp wasn't sacked but Alonso sacking is neither here nor there he is the outstanding candidate and had a good record at real the players and president are just idiots
