    It doesn't matter what manager comes in, the message should be the same;

You are good players, go and play good football without the handbreak on.

The amount of sterile, safe, backwards crap we see now is far too much. Szoboszlai was terrible yesterday. Kept turning backwards and passing it back whenever a chance of a break or quick pass forwards was on. He basically did what the Jones-haters claim Jones does. And Slot was applauding and supporting those actions.

The manager had the choice to bring on a teenager to gain some experience in an European away game, without any added pressure, as the game was won and he could just play naturally. He didn't do that.

Instead he brought a teenager on to try and save the game, adding extra pressure to Rio. It's a tougher situation.

Exactly as above Slot has shown again and again he doesn't rate most of the squad outside the first 11 and doesn't play them at all unless he's forced to.

This has the double whammy effect of letting the players know he thinks they are **** while also simultaneously not preparing them for being thrown into games which he inevitably does and the feedback loop continues. The squad players are just expected to perform based on nothing and no game time. I genuinely think he's one of the worst man managers Liverpool have had and that's saying something.

    Gakpo is overused.

He's limited enough and fairly predictable at times tbh. However, he's a decent squad player, but he's almost been first choice this season a lot of the time. Some of it forced of course, but yesterday for example. Why not start with our best available striker, and then put on Gakpo after 60-70 mins?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,173 ✭✭✭giveitholly

I agree that Gakpo is over used but we have one fit striker and we can't flog him to death,as in we can't overuse him. I think it was actually the right call to start Gakpo yesterday,as much as i don't rate him myself. We would of been in a strong position going into the second half if VVD wasn't so arrogant and actually tried to defend

    Agreed

And he still might not want it.

We aren't getting Pep or Ancelloti!

I reckon we'll be shopping in a slightly different market for players in the summer too given the collapse and tactical mess (but arguably not a bad thing given how our spend went last.time).

I was find with giving slot the season and see if he can turn things around but it looking increasingly like he can't, Alonso being available changed that, I think we should get him in before someone else does.

He's managed Wirtz and Frimpong so knows how to get the best out of them.

Robbo wants to guarantee his starting place at the only world cup he'll play in, it's natural he wants gametime now, I don't think it would be the same problem next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,612 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

I wonder if Enrique is remotely possible? I'd rather him than Alonso

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,173 ✭✭✭giveitholly

He is their captain,if he never plays another minute between now and the summer he will be still starting

This is my feeling too. And the Jota situation. It irks me a bit that the fans can applaud at 20 and boo when the game is over. Like what’s that about?

As they say it’s a results game and they have been atrocious.

A new manager might be what’s needed a clean slate. Slot might not what to be here anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,221 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

I can understand and respect Robbo wanting to leave for more time. He's not in danger of losing his starting spot for the national team but I'm sure he still wants to be as sharp as possible going into the World Cup. I can also understand the club willing to respect that decision as he's given us so much over the years and will be out of contract in the summer.

I still think replacing him with Tsimikas for the next 4 months is a downgrade to an already threadbare defence. I'd feel slightly better about it if we brought someone in even short term, a senior player who can show some experience to fill in when needed.

No I don't have an answer for who that player could be, but I believe the club should, that's what all the analysts are for, right? It's very hard to believe there is absolutely nothing that can be done this window to improve our defensive options.

Yea, not every single signing needs to be what the club perceive to be the perfect long term option.

you can’t wait on finding perfection when you are as desperate as we are.

I know VVD was poor for the first goal but I think. watching TAW's player rating video, that what's also forgotten is the sheet number of blocks, headers and clearancea he makes per game hat we take for granted.

Just to echo what @jones said above. Slot has completely ostracized a lot of squad members. They don't feel part of the core first team. That's both in what he has said publicly, and also by his actions in what players have played in certain games, starters etc.

He has sucked all confidence out of these squad players, and then out of the blue is calling on them, expecting them to make an impact in games. Freeze them out for months, yet expect them to make an impact out of nowhere. It's baffling.

This is how our squad looks right now.

    image.png

Which leaves the following players that Slot will actually trust to start in games. 14 players, including 2 GKs. Only 4 defenders. Frimpong needs his minutes managed too, as does Ekitike.

Looks like James Pearce has put out his Edwards mandated hit-piece.

Just on Ramsay, now i don't agree with how Slot commented on him recently at the press conference, but seriously is he good enough to play for us? He was on loan last season at Wigan and Kilmarnock(?) and made no impression for either team, had about 8 appearances for both. Starting him or bringing him on in a team short of confidence and playing brutal is not going to end well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,774 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Virgil does deserve calling out for that error, wasn't great for goal 3 either, but let's not forget...

He's been putting out fires all year, surrounded by badly performing players in a poor system. It's hard to call out any individual for not giving stellar performances in this current setup, it's a rabble.

If the structure and set up is poor, don't blame individuals, especially CBs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,442 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

    He's not good enough, no.

But no manager should be speaking publicly, basically telling the world that he's not good enough.

Klopp was a master at making the likes of Ramsey (see Rhys Williams) feel like he was good enough to be a PL football. Slot has completely torn him, and others, down.

Slot has no problem throwing Ramsey to the wolves in that Palace team though.

Yep, Pearce is a mouthpiece for the club. Significant that he’s now putting the boot into Slot

But if he is not good enough then questioning Slot for not playing him is wrong. As i said Slot shouldn't of said what he said in public but that doesn't change the fact that Ramsay is not good enough to play minutes for Liverpool. So why berate a manager for not playing a player who is not good enough to play for us? Aren't things bad enough as it is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,612 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

Nothing wrong with what Pearce said there. The writing is on the wall now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,173 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Yes this seasons demise can't be fully blamed on Slot, although he has to take the majority of the blame and it will cost him his job. But serious questions need to be asked of Hughes/Edwards on how they could leave the squad so imbalanced

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,221 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Van Dijk has played every single minute in both the Premier League and Champions League this season (along with the full 90 against Barnsley) he can't be doing that at 34 years old.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,612 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

They lost the run of themselves in the summer. The Isak deal was awful especially considering how tight we were at centre back. That on Hughes and Co.

Slot takes responsibilities for the on field mess :

Persisting with the tinkered formation for so long when it wasn't clear it wasn't working.

Not dropping players soon enough, eg, Salah, Gakpo.

Slowing our game down so much that it's a chore to watch at times. The life is sucked out of the team and also atmosphere at the games as a result.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,173 ✭✭✭giveitholly

IMO that is on Hughes/Edwards for leaving us so light at the back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,888 ✭✭✭Pepp1989

The trend is your friend. And our football and results have been trending down since last April - the freakish start of the season aside.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 447 ✭✭505_

Those who sanctioned 450 million of signings should be under as much scrutiny as Slot IMO. I’ve said it many times but Wirtz/Isak money could have been spent on a few quality players. More than just squad players even. I know Guehi ended up on crazy wages with city. But I don’t think it was about wages with us. We wouldn’t match palace valuation and tried to play a game with them. It’s mental to spend that much money and have such a problem with squad depth. Obviously how much slot trusts players and rotates them another conversation.

Lots of talk on X that we're in talks with Alonso. With it being a World Cup year, they don't want to leave it until the summer.

Wirtz/Isak are quality players, but yeah the imbalance in the squad is a hindrance
