It's probably on the job listing, to be fair.

"Are you a piece of work?

Can you swear that black is white?

Do you look at morals and ethics as a mere impediment?

If this describes you, email your CV whitehouse.gov today!"

If we were contributing to a genuine EU force, we wouldn't be left alone and the UK and the mainland can't afford for us to fall.

Even in your scenario, theres no point in trying to have a resistance with untrained plebs. The IRA were a hodge podge because they lacked any training or even proper knowledge of the weapons they had. Some groups were effective whilst others were a complete shambles.

Yeah the senile windbag who can’t tell the difference between Greenland and Iceland is playing 16-dimensional chess. Sure thing 👍🏻

Been discussed ad nauseam in this thread. A significant proportion of Americans are simpletons who will believe any populist bullshit they are fed, think you should be allowed to carry assault rifles everywhere you go, shoot anyone you perceive as a threat…the answer to gun violence is more guns so the good guns can shoot the bad guns or whatever. Uneducated people vote for snake oil salesmen who tell them what they want to hear (foreigners and democrats are why your life is ****) and reap the ‘benefits’

Trumps health both physical and mental is obviously failing. He hasn't that long left before he is unable to continue or is removed the question is who replaces him then. Will they be worse or better?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,882 ✭✭✭threeball

Vance, but if he tries any of this shìt, Congress will impeach him in 5 mins. Hes not liked or feared. Is Rubio next in line then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,043 ✭✭✭RickBlaine

Johnson is next in line until the mid-terms at least.

Im reminded of the Mike Tyson quote "Everyone has a plan til they get punched in the face". While neutrality has served us well before, its not really viable going forward if its the glaring hole in defending th EU defence and it wont be respected anyway by Russia/USA/China etc. Time to align with the rest of Europe on military matters and invest accordingly.

I agree , honestly Ukraine is a treasure throve for learning how to resist against overmatched power, the innovation with maritime drones was particularly interesting. The idea you could disable a frigate with a few 100k drones.

Same as the BBC. Damned if they do and damned if they don't. No matter what they do, there's no shortage of people telling us how both sides are the same and equating them with the professional liars at Fox News.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

    Leviticus 19:34

I think it’s very dangerous for us to assume that it’s only idiots who vote for Trump. It isn’t. My boss and her boss are very intelligent and well educated people. They both voted Trump because they are dyed in the wool Republicans from a part of the country that is staunchly Republican. The problem isn’t just that idiots are swallowing his nonsense.

The political landscape in America is so polarised right now and there is such a lack of choice that whoever runs for the Republicans (or Democrats) will have a very significant percentage of the vote off the bat.

Well educated people vote for Trump for a variety of reasons. I know one highly successful person who jumped from voting for Obama to Trump. He had become obsessed with illegal immigration, perhaps because he was an immigrant himself and had been mistaken for a Mexican on a few occasions. At first his arguments made some sense but over time they became warped as all he listened to was Fox and worse. For the sake of a happy household I now avoid politics when he visits. Another relative, a devout Republican, went the other way because of Trump's personal behaviour. When she was dying last year she remarked she didn’t want to go but at least she’d be spared the next three years.

Trump sees the Americas like Eastern Europe in the good old days of the Soviet Union. The only legitimate role for other leaders is to express limitless gratitude and implement his policy. This is why Carney’s speech sent him into yet another tantrum. There’s no room for the truth from the Canadian PM any more.

What else can you say when you literally have no long term plan and completely operate on the basis of fiscal winds. Appease the vested interests shovel the money out the door.

So he has concepts of a deal. We can expect that will be delivered soon.... right after the concepts of the Medicare plan....….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,542 ✭✭✭✭everlast75

When asked, before the election in 2024, for details of his replacement for Obamacare, he replied "we have the concept of a plan".

A year in and they have nothing.

Every single headline, with a quote from him, should be given context, rather than just repeat his words.

If that context is too long for the headline, "Prolific liar Trump says...." will do

You can be highly educated and be an idiot in certain matters. Ben Carson was a top surgeon but also believed the pyramids were used to store grain and didn't function as tombs, and that Joseph from the Bible built them.

It's not the impeachment that matters, it's the conviction. 66 votes in the Senate are required, and if that means GOP votes for it, the likelihood is small. His second impeachment garnered 57 votes, of which 7 were GOP. This after CFTrump incited a mob that would gladly had killed those Senators should they have been captured.

Its the only strategy that makes sense for us, particularily in this Trumpian world where he does about turns on major policies sometimes within days of announcing them. Would be fairly daft to jump when he says, as we have learned this week (and before). The background diplomacy as I have mentioned before, being patient etc is the smart move here (as most of Europe are doing when it comes to Trump.

We are a small country, even if we were to spend billions on defence, what would it actually achieve only enriching defense companies and potentially being more reliant on the US for support etc In reality we want to maintain peace, we have seen enough of war and the aftermath of it in our own country and any of our actions should be with that in mind.

Granted, we could do with a few more naval vessels and shoring up some areas but I wouldn't be getting too carried away, maybe let the French or Germans setup a base or two here makes more sense………

Rotte had ABSOLUTLY no authority to make a decision of any kind re mineral rites with any country. It is not in chi’s ’job description’ . But if there were behind the scenes meeting attended by US , Denmark and the ‘government of Greenland and a decision was agreed the give mineral rites to the US , then that is a different matter. But how can such a profound decision be made in SUCH A SHORT TIME. ?

And when we consider that the mineral rites is not an issue that can be made in isolation/independant of other very profound issues/matters and that would need TIME - weeks/ months maybe , especially when dealing with Trump then the above decision is highly improbable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,053 ✭✭✭Ozymandius2011

Trump saying access to Greenland minerals part of deal.

Some criticism of this in Danish parliament. saying Rutte has no right to decide on those.

What exactly happens with the minerals well have to see.

Trump is very obviously telling lies to save face or even look good in front of his supporters.

The dogs on the street know all of the above and know that if the yanks wanted better access to bases or mineral rights, all the had to do was ask through the regular channels.

Britain geographically and historically would make more sense.

Mark Carney, Canada, has given a very surprisingly very clear and very detailed framework/ structure as a clear path forward so as to respond to the international ‘RUPTURE’ caused by the US.

My main comment on his presentation that his proposal should consider involving/including all those democracies that could buy in to his proposal and this would include countries such as Japan, Australia, New Zealand and maybe some countries that are working towards a democracy for starters.

PS Democracy in name only is not enough . It must also be shown in actions

What happened to the US financed/built GOLDEN DOME in Israel !!!!!! - A country circa 1/50th the size of the US

    Especially over there.

I have a relation who is as thick as two short planks (like never heard of Thailand stupid) and lazy to boot who is studying to be a doctor, because in good ole Murica money can buy you an education (rich parents).

After all Trump's antics the last week, why does anyway take what he says at face value?

On the other hand, we have Leavitt gaslighting us. This is the "beauty" of all the fake news/deepfake/AI push, even the DoD saying that they were releasing the Epstein files but that some had been tampered with, therefore delegitimising itself as a legitimate source.

There is so much crap out there to shift through that people can dismiss anything as fake news or AI, question the veracity of anything they disagree with, even from official sources, while promoting whatever perspective they agree with and pre-empting any criticism with 'of course, they'll say its fake news or AI'.
