Wow! Fabien Galthié has left out Aldritt, Fickou and Penaud from his 6N squad. There’s a coach who isn’t afraid to drop established players or governed by sentimentality.

    does the squad even matter?

We know the team is going to be completely unchanged other than injury, and anyone who gets in will be gone as soon as injury clear up.

    porter sheehan furlong

    Ryan McCarthy

    Beirne VDF Doris

    JGP AN Other

Mccloskey Henshaw / Aki & Ringgrose

Back 3 of whoever is fit.

Sure stockdale might start a game or two, but when Hansen or Keenan are back he is gone. Edogbo might make the bench but he’s not getting past ryan, McCarthy or Beirne to start.

The decision at 10 is a dangerous one. Of the 3 in the frame I think the luckiest will be the one that doesn’t feature against France.

Does anybody really think there will be a starting spot given to someone over an available incumbent?

Squad is out. Edogbo and Doak the only newbies. Aki still hanging in.

    Doak in, Edogbo too

    Keenan also named

    No porter, z ward

Aki called up is pointless. Lowe is going to need to perform

    Backs (17):

    Bundee Aki (Galwegians/Connacht)(68)Robert Baloucoune (Enniskillen/Ulster)(4)Harry Byrne (Lansdowne/Leinster)(4)Craig Casey (Shannon/Munster)(24)Jack Crowley (Cork Constitution/Munster)(30)Nathan Doak (Banbridge/Ulster)*Tom Farrell (Lansdowne/Munster)(2)Ciaran Frawley (UCD/Leinster)(9)Jamison Gibson-Park (Leinster)(46)Hugo Keenan (UCD/Leinster)(46)James Lowe (Leinster)(43)Stuart McCloskey (Bangor/Ulster)(23)Tommy O’Brien (Blackrock College/Leinster)(6)Jamie Osborne (Naas/Leinster)(10)Sam Prendergast (Lansdowne/Leinster)(13)Garry Ringrose (UCD/Leinster)(69)Jacob Stockdale (Lurgan/Ulster)(40)

Pretty disappointed that some guys in form aren't rewarded to be honest. Ward x2 and/or Kenny should be in there.

A lot of players out of form/returning from injury and not played in a while in there.

No major quibbles with the squad. Probably would have left out Aki and brought in Jude Postlethwaite. Maybe one of Ward or Kenny in on the wings also.

Other than that, it's good to Edogbo in there as well as TOB, Keenan and Osborne. Must mean they're close to fitness and available for selection.

Strange that there's no development players this year.

    Yawn

What an uninspiring squad so much for in form players

No Zac Ward is a joke tbh. Even if he wasnt playing, surely hes worth a look

    Baloucoune back in is interesting.

18 months from a world cup and were still persisting with Aki, Ireland are not serious at all.

Didn’t realise there was any doubt about Clarkson. He played 80 against LAR and 64 against Bayonne

Murray and B Ward traveling to Portugal with main squad then linking up with Ireland XV, guess they are counting them as development players.

Are you mixing up Clarkson and Paddy McCarthy?

    Clarkson played at the weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,367 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Zac Ward and JJ Kenny are in the Ireland A squad to play England A.

I assume it is due to the Ireland XV which will require a series of pre game group training camps which in truth adds more to next in line

One of Izuchukwu or Ahern being unavailable for Irish selection is very typical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,300 ✭✭✭TRC10

Hardly surprising though. Until Farrell leaves this is what we’re stuck with

    37 players named.

campared to 42 for france, 38 wales and 33 for italy

i cant understand the lack of consitency across the board for these squads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,180 ✭✭✭KaneToad

    As expected really.

I think Doak may leapfrog Casey before the tournament ends.

Am, slightly, surprised that Tom Farrell is there.

I hope Ahern gets an opportunity to kick on. I feel like he is so close to being a next level player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,098 ✭✭✭Paddy_Mag

Realistically who is in the A squad who absolutely should be in the senior squad?

Ward and JJK have put together a run of performances in the last 6 weeks, and if Ward in particular had been included then i dont think anyone would complain, but beyond that I don't see who has missed out where it would be contentious. There is a long injury list also.

One of Hume or Postlewaite for Aki maybe. Beyond that?

I would probably prefer younger lads to get some game time with Ireland XV rather than sitting in an extended squad and getting no game time.

I really hope Zac Ward gets a call up to the senior panel after this A game is over. I'd be disappointed for him otherwise, not sure what else he can do for inclusion at this stage.

Bundee should be gone. However, no Henshaw and I presume big question marks over Osborne and Keenan

Joshua Kenny should be in the senior squad, end of.

If Porter and Henshaw are omitted from the senior squad due to injury, so too should Frawley, Keenan, Lowe, Osborne and anyone else not going to be available for their provinces this weekend.
