US Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, standing in front of the 'Stars and Stripes', and 'Freedom 250' emblazoned on screens (what a way for this administration to celebrate their anniversary) said:

UK letting US down on Diego-Garcia

Undermined/ criticized Powell, independent chairman of federal reserve

There have been 'inflammatory comments' by Macron and Von Der Leyen

    Denmark is 'irrelevant'

EU standards are 'artificial standards', which are a 'major problem'.

Macron should concentrate on the French budget 'which is in shambles' rather than NATO exercises in Greenland

    What a piece of ****

Simon Harris called Trump an "awful gowl" on radio in 2020.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

We know how mad Trump and his gang of clowns are and if he says something he actually thinks it's his right as the most powerful man in the world.

He has his eye on Canada, mad as it seems and by having Greenland he could squeeze them more. God knows what the plans are but they don't see why they shouldn't, It's for world safety!!!!!

They could base navy ships up in Greenland and close all shipping in and out of Canada, stop their trade with China so he would say, but also the EU, sweet talk the Canadian public and hope to put in a pro trump leader.

I can't see it working but it won't be for the lack of trying.

Scott Beasant was a financially sound individual. This is blatantly a coalition between Christian-ethno-nationalists and the financial elites to distract attention from the real problems people face so they can continue unmolested in thier transfer of the proceeds of global productivity into the hands of a few. What they are clearly trying to create is a new feudal system with the twin pillars of the aristocray and the church replaced by the Tech-bro / Financial Elite and the Christian nationalists.

How's your very confident 'less than 1% chance' looking now? I'll refrain from posting the wink emoji as you like to do.

Thanks for the cliffs of the interview, can't listed to this man speak. Of all the hypocrisies with this current Trump administration he might be the biggest enigma, a man who worked for George Soros for years, donated to previous Democratic presidential nominees going back to Al Gore yet here is talking complete nonsense not based in reality.

This is really escalating in the most profound way

Huh? Canadian seaport ships don't pass anywhere close to Greenland on the way to Europe. The distance to Greenland from Montreal/Halifax is over 1500 miles. The large Canadian seaports are already very close to mainland USA. Vancouver handles the China trade. Greenland is irrelevant to be your idea.

So many in the US administration are rank hypocrites who have abandoned all principle and have become poisoned and twisted in their greed and lust for power.

Don't forget 'Never Trump' JD Vance who harangued European leaders in Munich for 'stifling free speech'.

The level of contempt they have for Europe is unbelievable.

Trump declares a "National Day of Patriotic Devotion"

    How very North Korean

    Much less now.

Zero chance of a military invasion. Seriously. 0%

Politically impossible. They will make some kinda "deal" on security and other items. A climbdown on military takeover this week I'd imagine.

What's your % chance of military invasion?? Go on! 😉

NPD and senility will do that to you. Angry, aggressive behaviour classic sign of elderly senility, they don't trust what they hear and see and lash out. Biden was on his way at least, too.

As someone out here in Ireland asked me a few weeks ago, "330+ million people in America, and those were the best 2 candidates they could come up with?"

Yep, the threat of a military invasion/takeover has passed. It was a typical Trump tactic to open negotiations and scare off the competition.

Really laughable. What pray tell has caused you to revise downwards you prediction, in the context of the last few days?

I didn't give a percentage before because it is literally stupid to do so. It is still stupid, but the chances seem as likely as not.

The US administration is wildly unpredictable but there is a rapidly growing mania gripping that country, and their slide into autocracy is accelerating at an alarming rate, and all bets are off.

This was said about his investment firm he was 50% partner in.

The inconsistent track record scared away clients. Assets under management shrank from $5.1 billion in 2017

    [37][38]

to $577 million in 2023 and the number of institutional investors declined from 180 to 20 over the same period.

He is by no means a shining light in finance and can't answer a question put to him, he's a Trump bluffer.

    How arrogant.

Speaking of "Stars and Stripes" in another context. The WH is trying to take political control of the army magazine "Stars and Stripes".

Also yesterday it was reported that Pete Hegseth has invited defence contractors to a "Christian prayer service".

The Millers and other sick individuals driving things behind the scenes of the US administration are trying to build up a type of national story/ mythology around their administration.

Bessent refered to 'Liberation Day's in his speech, which was where the US unleashed their psychotic Tarrif agenda. That is part of it.

Their reframing of January 6th (on the official White House website) is another part of this.

    https://www.whitehouse.gov/j6/

The 'National Day of Patriotic Devotion' is unabashedly an autocratic styled 'celebration' that North Korea, Russia, or China would be proud of.

The US has gone off the rails.

What has changed? Not much. My <1% has become 0%. I laid out my 5 reasons and his threat has already incurred negative consequences. There is no support for it. It's a lose lose scenario. Politically impossible.

As Tuco said in the The Good, the Bad & the Ugly..."When you have to shoot, shoot; don't talk". Trump is just talking. Mainly waffle. Good distraction for him.

As I said before, we shall see.

Nobody is going to attack you for making a guess. It's anonymous 😉

I expect Trump will deliver a highly aggressive speech in Davos which will devolve things further.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Paulzx

What time is he due to speak at?

I presume he'll do his usual trick of going miles over the allotted time waffling to prove that he's too important to work to other peoples timetable🙄

It has echoes of the poem "First they came". The Christian Right have no love for the LGBT community. Until 2002 (SCOTUS Lawrence vs Texas decision), homosexuality was a crime in 20 states. I will never understand Thiel, Bessent in this context.

    Niccolò Machiavelli :

"To ally with great powers to defeat your neighbour is a strategic trap; if you win, you become the slave of the greater power; if the allied power is defeated, you remain alone and defenceless against the angry neighbour, and you are destroyed." - Niccolò Machiavelli

Easy. Money. That's all it ever is. They won't give a sh*t until the poison they've spent years and millions spreading starts to directly affect them at which point it will be too late.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

I'm not sure I understand the point of bullying Europe over Greenland, then, because I have little doubt European leaders would have given the US everything bar a full transfer of territory, anyway.

There can't be much point outside of bullying Europe out of pure spite and narcissism and the contempt by one man who.... I'm answering my own question here, aren't I?

Emails scribed by DoD and sent last week to an undisclosed number of individuals were shared with Military.com, inviting the persons to join a "Christian prayer and worship service" between 12-12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the Pentagon auditorium. The correspondence was sent from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's office, labeled the "Department of War."

The correspondence was strongly chastised by groups like the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), whose founder, Mikey Weinstein, told Military.com that he believes it was the first time such correspondence was sent to defense contractors.

He said the eight of them that received the message contacted MRFF, which for decades has challenged the lack of separation of church and state within military and government ranks. The contractors were from small, medium, and some of the largest defense contractors in the United States.

"There is no doubt that [the Pentagon has] now started to include defense contractors or 'war contractors' in their vicious violation of the constitution, proselytizing outreach directly from Hegseth himself," said Weinstein, whose organization includes more than 100,000 service members—about 95% of whom are self-described Christians.
