Well, i guess they were preaching to the choir with me. Regular Joe Soaps are 50 quid for a one off in the Olympia these days. 65 for Iggy, Slowdive, Warmduscher, the Scratch, Sprints, Lambrini Girls, Billy Nomates.....every act on that bill was fantastic. Beautiful setting, a Guinness bar...

Each to their own but as I say, we can't give out about the dross being booked in the 3Arena etc if we're not turning up for events like this.

Oddly enough Iggy & The Stooges in Kilmainham in 2008 wasn't particularly well attended either.

Iggy, Ron Asheton, Scott Asheton and Mike Watt. Stiff Little Fingers and the Kills as support.

Hollywood Vampires in Birmingham £80 is the cheapest ticket

I was given an envelope with about 30 tickets to give away for that one. They were throwing them away in the days leading up

Very odd. Absolute all timer belter of a gig that one.

This definitely would have been up my street had I not seen a lot of them at ATN 10 months prior.

Interested to see what this year brings though!

    Iggy, saw him before. Meh.

Slowdive, great, but seen them twice in the previous couple of years, coulfn't justify 70quid plus spending money just for them. Final ticket price was upwards of 80quid IIRC. Nah.

The rest, perfectly fine, but not bothered dropping money to see them tbh.

Maybe a Cameron Winter set but even then I wouldn't say so due to the EP exclusivity

I see Singular Artists are running a ticket competition for Mon Rovia in Vicar Steet tonight. Playing a venue that size always seemed very ambitious

Yes I was in at €60 or whatever but the ad I saw on social was get ticket now warning of an early bird price but you'd follow link and was already at the price over 80 quid after fees, money that would've been required for bus anyway.

If you live in Dublin and fancied it on the whim maybe fair enough, Fanirish could point to early bird practices being common but for a one day event nahs my thoughts, they welcome to it.

In fairness, in the batshit crazy ticketing world we live in, your efforts to paint this event as a rip off seem a bit ott. You've 5 or 6 posts to this effect both at the time and now. You could pick a ticket up for 40 euro outside the venue on the day. And you had months to buy at 60 euro. I don't think in the Meadows is a fair target for those sort of gripes.

and a social media advert saying low ticket warning at early bird price bring out of date is not a new development. That’s the whole point of the advert campaign to move sales along.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭Wrongway1985

But it was out of date and remained up for long after I interacted with.

It was reemphasised again that it was mad it didn't sell out @60 that it was painted at, well me and the other poster only stated it wasn't that price (for every one).

As hinted I do not live in Dubland so picking up a ticket outside venue isn't aimed at me grand all well and good you've this free time and on your doorstep.

If you can accept a "mad ticketing world" for squandering money that's on you.

I think when you miss out on the early bird ticket, it has the effect of making the regular price seem a bit pricey.

I was interested in the Iggy Pop gig but the way the three stages broke down, it seriously diluted the line up for who I was looking to see. Lots of clashes and overlaps.

lambrini girls on same time as Slowdive and the scratch.

Sprints clashing with Warmduscher. Gilla Band v Meryl Streek.

Amazing line up. Probably should’ve went

Thats what festivals are about though no? I watched some of Lambrini Girls, walked for about 45 seconds and I was at the Scratch, 20 mins later walked 40 seconds to the bar, chatted to some drunk rando, got a pint, saw another tune or two of Lambrini Girls etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 184 ✭✭LLamachara

    Absolutely.

But for a one dayer, and not hugely into Iggy, the line up became a bit thin for me for €80.

As I said, probably should’ve went! I love the venue.

Yeah its a great set up. Weather was a bit pish though.

I guess I'm baffled on why people don't think Iggy is a must see one of the most important people in music history hero!

Wolf Alice would shift tickets for this year, big league.

Hopefully that's what's meant about the festival itself building its name. I also wasn't drawn to Iggy particularly and accept the lineup was a little thin on paper below that but I went and the lineup was wonderful in reality, the setup was brilliant, the crowd were ace. They'd have to actively book against my tastes this year to stop me going!

He was fantastic that night too.

Voice was good and he had a flip hot band.

I dunno.. I'm taken aback by the idea than he's not a draw, maybe The Stooges / Iggy are more iconic than actually listened too. Still a hero in my book for sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 702 ✭✭✭fillup

With that user name I'd deffo expect Iggy to be one of ur heroes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 358 ✭✭jimosterberg

Thought in the meadows was a cracking line up with a brilliant headliner.

Would love Idles to play it some year but not going to be this year with them on the Deftones bill

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,173 ✭✭✭Stillill42

I live in Kildare. I liked the lineup. I bought the ticket a few weeks after it went on sale. I hate the musical landscape we're in where people will pay 300 quid for Taylor or 500 for Oasis. That's why I object to you painting even 80 quid for Iggy and that supporting cast as some kind of rip off. The end.

Edit: I saw your list of gigs on the 'Gigs of the year' thread. You must have spent thousands on gigs last year, fair play. I just can't get my head around why you'd have a problem with 80 quid for In the Meadows. I'll shut up now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭Wrongway1985

I'm not slating the event or painting it anything.

I would slate the concept all day long however you availed of a ticket at the original price (nice one) I dont like this deviation craic and at the new price I say I'm out and I don't mind who knows (okay I'm bangin' on).

It didn't seem worth it that's all I guess, its not an obvious rip like those mentioned and you are right unsurprisingly I was nowhere near them events.

With no slight I highly doubt public transport costs 35 quid Dublin to Kildare.

Majority of Dublin gigs I do are sadly straight back onto bus home after not like years ago.

Nowadays where possible I may aswell bypass Dublin city get the bus straight to the airport and go somewhere affordable to stay to make the experience a lot more comfortable.

Any idea on if Biffy Clyro would come back over for a show in the summer, maybe in likes of Trinity? About to announce a Scottish show, have a big English one announced already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,047 ✭✭✭Fanirish

doubtful. Neither Belfast or Dublin sold out and 1 date in Dublin per album tour has been norm since they they jumped into being an arena level band.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,168 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Yeah was thinking that. Half hoping they do the QOTSA way and change that, obviously not as big. Maybe next summer when I assume theyll be on the festival circuit and theres been a bit of time away
