What diesel car for €5-7k

Seat Ibiza 1.2 tdi. One of my neighbours young lads who recently passed his test well I say recently be about 2 years now has one. They say its nippy. I am not sure about that but its certainly rattly the engine that is, typical unrefined rattly diesel engine. Maybe its not that noticible from inside the car but outside it certainly is.

So yes if that is what he wants get a diesel engine. Petrol would be better though.

Renault Megane 3/ Fluence, cheap, reliable. Pick one based on insurance quotes as they seem to vary ridiculously for young drivers on basically identical cars.

What's the new 30:70 rule. The only advice I'd have for buying a first time car is get insurance quotes before you hand over your money. Good luck with it.

Renault diesels supposed to be good . Concentrate on getting a well maintained car with reasonable mileage rather the most recent car for the money . There is alot to go wrong on diesels and many have big miles / kms

Is he definitely doing enough travelling to justify diesel ? You will get alot more petrol car for that budget

In a diesel context - I agree with the Renault suggestions put forward.

A Toyota 1.4 d4d should work too although if memory serves me coŕrectly there can be bearing issues in the gearbox on them.

If it were me I'd keep an open mind on petrol on the basis that I'd rather a petrol in mint condition vs a rough diesel.

Diesels of that era are usually rough as muck. A mk6 Golf will be absolutely rallied at that age with over 250k km's on the clock no doubt.

You might only spend an extra tenner a week on petrol depending on your usage

You will generally get a tidier and less money pit petrol car than diesel for that age and budget. Any fuel savings on diesel could easily be wiped out by a costly repair.

1.6tdi isn't the best engine from VAG, Siemens injectors and EGR's give a fair bit of trouble. 2.0tdi is the better engine by far.

A lot of Golf's in that price range will have been owned by young lads / ladies and are very unlikely to be well maintained....

This 1.6cdri Ceed looks decent and is a single owner car and has 1 year NCT. Hard to go wrong with it really in this budget.

Fluence are a decent car and the 1.5dci is one of the best small diesels out there.

Corolla 1.4D4D is a great car but in your budget it'll be a much older model you'll be getting. Might put you in trouble with insurance costs if the car is over 10 years old.

Skoda Octavia's 1.6 diesel have a good rep. Had a quick look on line, just a random example - a beige 2015 reg. with just 2 owners, 220,000 km and full 12 months NCT - asking price €6,950 I'm sure if you turn up with a fistful of cash you could talk him/her into knocking off a few €100😉

The op is a farmer, they're usually self employed, a lot of farmers are vat registered, i may be wrong of course
