Any tips on a few things

We are looking to go to Naples or Bari or Brindisi flight wise - if flight options a bit odd days of week wise and odd ball times.

But general idea is a large villa with pool. We were thinking these places are Sat to Sat - but looking at air bnb , I'm not sure that is the truth anymore - anyway any comments welcome on

    1. Naples area versus Bari / Brindisi
    2. Is Air B&B only show in town - any good villa rental options that is good for Italy / south Italy.
    3. We may have to do one night in a city due to flights - what city is a must see in area / near an airport.

    Thanks

Fix, I'd select Puglia every day. I know it like the back of my hand! Gorgeous part of italy. We have been several times. Bari is a lovely city, nicer than Brindisi which is essentially a port city. However it's better for access to the southern half of Puglia.

The flight into Bari is a late-ish one around 9pm arrival i think? City not too far from airport. However I would suggest staying in a nearby town if only passing through. There is Palese and Santo Spirito, both less than 10 minutes from the airport. Advantage here is quick arrival after long flight and you might just make last orders in the restaurants.

Bari itself is well worth exploring. Lovely old town, nice food, lovely sea views etc. If based here you have some lovely coastal towns and villages nearby, such as Trani, Bisceglie, Monopoli and Polignano.

If you are thinking Brindisi, then maybe go inland a bit. The Valle D'Itria area is a Unesco heritage area. Old buildings called trulli everywhere, especially in Alberobello.

Wonderful towns everywhere, Ostuni, Locorotondo, Cisternino.

Further south you have Lecce, probably the most beautiful city in Puglia. The Salento region has some gorgeous beaches if that's what you want. Gallipoli is wonderful.

PM me if you need more info.

    Thanks - great info.

Is there any other options besides Air BnB - they seems to have cornered the villa market too ?

Definitely. Use Booking.com and Air BnB for ideas, then Google the place. Most of them do direct bookings and bypass the middle man.

Have had great luck with these folks. Tell them what you are looking for and your budget and they will give you lots of good options.

Was amazed to see Booking.com seems cheaper - if they tend to offer strange options of 10 v 11 people - and different prices - not sure how 10 v 11 is offered in what looks like an entire villa booking option in bookings.com

Thanks - even with above bookings.com looks about 500 quid cheaper

Airbnb are thieving b@stards.... booking.com can be much cheaper but always go direct to source if you can. They really appreciate it as they don't pay commission, and easier to avoid tax!

Air bnb were great when they started out but became greedier as it grew in popularity. Both the owners and the platform have insane amount of taxes and charges. Sometimes the cleaning charge is as much as a night's accommodation. Lots of scammers operating too, they'll invite you to chat off site which will effectively void any protection you might have if booked through the official channel.
