    Hi folks,

Nespresso cancelled an order on me for no reason and have pissed me off. So they have lost my subscription. Been wasting 500 on pods every year so their loss!

What I am after in a machine

    1. One touch/easy operation
    2. Makes large coffee or small coffee
    3. No complicated cleaning or prep etc
    4. Reliable
    5. Cost less than 500 or there abouts

Is delonghi magnifica S my best bet?

Not really a "one touch" bean-to-cup machine though.

yeah number 1 and 2 above are non negotiable really so that Machine can be used for both my wife and I.

I had been using Vertuo large coffee and my wife small nespressso orogjonal pods.

Would recommend having a good read of reddit.com/r/superautomatic

Whole subreddit dedicated to bean to cup machines rather than espresso machines.

One that I have seen recommended a fair bit is the Magnifica Evo, and the Evo next.

I have a De Longhi Magnifica S with about 10 years . Just checked statistics and with 14580 coffees made in that time ,it has never missed a beat. We are in a hard water area and I descale it when it appears on machine. 99% of those coffees are large coffees and this machine is one touch for this unless you want to change the strength of the coffee. These are less than 400 at the moment.

We bought this one a couple of months ago to replace a previous Magnifica and we're very happy with it:

No you are right, it's not. It's definitely in the "espresso" machine category rather than a bean to cup coffee machine. It's really straightforward to use however, but appreciate that's not the OPs desire.

I have a Delonghi Rivelia for 2 years which has been great. It’s slightly over budget though. You could get from Amazon Europe for circa 630. I bought mine from Amazon Italy and Delonghi had not issue standing over the warranty here.

Another good machine is the Magnifica Plus. That and the Rivelia have newer software that allows for an extra shot function which I find really handy as myself and others who use the machine like a strong coffee.

If you’re not too fussed with the above then the Evo looks a good bet. If going with an Evo, make sure you get the model that does “Doppio+”. if you time and measure Doppio shots right, it’s capable of delivering surprisingly good shots for a super auto machine.

A lot of the Delonghis across the price range actually have similar internal parts and it comes down to looks and extra features etc.

I've had the Magnifica S for about 5 years now. It ticks all the boxes OP. One touch for big or small coffees (once set up sizes at the start). Easy clean, easy fill. Descale every 6 to 8 weeks for my own peace of mind. €310 on Amazon.ie now.

Plus, depending on the beans you buy, it's much cheaper than Nespresso pods overall.

SIEMENS EQ500 Fully Automatic Bean to Cup Coffee Machine - 517 - we've a 4 year old version of this, never had an issue, cleaning is regular'ish but straightforward

If you don't need the auto milky coffee functionality, the EQ300 might be an option @ €344 - edit, also available @ 253 (resale, used very good) or €256 (resale, used like new)
