    Hi

Looking at 4 night holiday to Tenerife with me and my 2 boys, nearly 9 and 10.

I was looking at Spring Hotel Bitacora in Playa de las Americas, mainly cos of the slides and outdoor heated pools.

Has anyone else done this? I know the area is wild in the summer but is it calmer and more kid friendly in February?

    Thanks

I'm in Tenerife at the moment although nearer the airport than Las Americas. No kids so that's not a consideration.

    Weather has been good 19-21c.

Personally I'd never travel over 4 hours in a plane just for a 4 day stay but then I'm retired.

Generally we come here later in the year late Feb or early March but we seem to have been lucky with the weather so far coming in Jan.

Tenerife is a winter sun destination as much as a summer one, so February is peak season.

That said, the Bitacora is a little bit further down towards the southern part of PDLA, away from Veronica's and the other wilder parts. Personally I prefer Costa Adeje, but the southern part of Las Americas is fairly family friendly so you should be fine.

I know it sounds mad, have to work around a shorter mid term break and even at that they still miss 2 days.

was also looking at Gran Canaria, as it means they only miss 1 day at school. that place is Maspalomas & Tabaiba Princess, looks good but i need to keep my lads entertained

Cost is a consideration for most. As you probably know hotels near the beach are more expensive.

PDLA isn't really for us, too many tourists and a nightlife destination.

We're on the aptly named Costa del Silencio in an aparthotel with a large pool, mostly older people but a good range of ages including some kids. We've stayed here once before on the recommendation of a relative. Cheaper, quieter and more Spanish area.

I doubt it would be, the biggest risk is the weather which isn't guaranteed. Odds are it will be warm and sunny, but you could be unlucky this time of year and hit four days where a weather system moves in - it has happened there a couple of times this winter already. But that's the risk you need to take with the Canaries in winter.

I wouldn't worry too much about that area, plenty of family hotels there and the Spring hotels are well regarded. Plus you've got the got the safari centre within five minutes walk as well which has plenty of food options etc.

Thanks all, good to get some opinions. I am still swaying towards Bitacora. Looks like there is plenty for the kids. Heated pool is a big thing for the slides and when bored of that there is football and other entertainment. Didn't know about the safari centre although I was going with the full inclusive package to make it easy.

Maspalomas & Tabaiba Princess reviews are mixed also, big turn is the all inclusive doesnt include water or coffee which is mad and you need to pay for them. Nothing like a nice coffee to start the day, but to not include water seems nuts. I know i could calculate this may cost 30 or 40 euro but its the principle when you are paying out 2500 for 4 days/nights

It's up to you, but there's a lot to be said for just doing B&B in the hotel and eating out in the evening. There's literally hundreds of restaurants within walking distance of that hotel and the food will likely be much better in most than in the hotel. Eating out is not particularly expensive in Tenerife.

We go to Costa Adeje most years and find it's better to just have breakfast in the hotel as part of the initial booking. We usually just pay a few Euros for snacks from the pool bar at lunch, and go out into the town for dinner. The food in restaurants is much better and more varied than in the hotel and it works out quite a bit cheaper than going all inclusive and then feeling that you have to eat in the hotel to get the value out of it.

Probably also worth knowing that "heated" pools in the Canaries this time of year doesn't necessarily always mean hot. It just means less cold than the sea! It varies from hotel to hotel though.
