Ok, so you won't back up your statement that Slot was ok to rubbish a player you called the fifth choice RB - your choice.

You also say 'anyone who is Slot out is not rational' - that's a lot of people who are not rational.

I'm not projecting you as a better class of supporter at all, I'm inferring that's your belief, which you are again confirming.

He has the season and deserves that after completely exceeding expectations last season, delivering the league title. You can argue the details all day, his failings, what has went against him out his control but I'd imagine that's the stance from above too.

I don't for a second think I'm a better supporter than anyone else.

In fact I'm a terrible supporter really, I don't go to games, I don't buy club merchandise. I don't even have an LFC TV subscription.

You demonstrably do think that. You have also just stated that not supporting the manager is irrational.

I've found your posts irritating as there are regular snide comments about a 'cohort' who aren't happy with the status quo, but then you also refuse to debate or engage with opposing views.

I'm going to stop here as it's at risk of derailing the thread, and I need to go touch grass.

Some people understand the meaning of the term "supporter", others are just born whingers always looking for something to criticise and rarely in a balanced manner which takes all the facts and circumstances into consideration.

There's a reason Slot was chosen to be the Liverpool manager, a reason he had what it took to take a team assembled by another manager and win the league with it and a reason why things are not going to plan this season but the club ownership are sticking with him.

Thankfully major decisions in the club are made by talented people who have built careers that earned then the right to make such decisions and not made by hyper reactive bar stool experts on an internet forum.

Apparently big clubs now sign pre-contracts with managers/coaches. Real Madrid did it with Alonso just prior to their Europa League final with Atalanta. Similarly, United and Amorim had an agreement in place. If they don't then appoint the manager he gets compensated.

This is all because of the absolute dearth of decent coaches out there. One of the reasons it makes zero sense to sack Slot now.

If I'm Liverpool, then I'd have a look at doing something like this with Alonso for next season. An insurance policy should Liverpool regress again this season under Slot.

I still hold out hope that Slot figures all this out because I'd prefer our current manager to be successful with this team than someone else.

I think part of supporting any club is being passionate about wanting the club to be successful and wanting what’s best for the club.

the job of a supporter is not to be completely ambivalent to the state of the club and just mindlessly clap like seals no matter what is being served up, talking like those making decisions at the club are infallible.

Personally I struggle to see how some people can care so little at how far we’ve regressed in such a short space of time, this is a mindset I will never understand.

I struggle to see how some people can happily make excuse after excuse or revise down expectations to avoid having to say anything critical about the manager. Again, this mindset of just mindlessly pretending like all is going to be fine is not something i will ever understand.

if the big decisions were made by some people on this thread we’d be a mediocre mid table team. Anything would be good enough.

That's the very definition of a straw man argument.

Everybody is hugely disappointed with this season, how could you not be.

I don't think anyone believes Slot has performed to an acceptable level this season.

Everyone is fully aware that if this season finishes badly, then Slot will very definitely be in jeopardy.

There are some mitigating circumstances that should be taken into account, just in the interest of fairness. We all know what they are so there is no point repeating them.

Winning the league last season also buys him more time. If he hadn't, then he'd be under massive pressure right now.

Just because I don't want Slot sacked now doesn't mean I have blind faith in him. The fact there is a viable alternative available only increases the pressure on him too.

I'm not advocating his removal eother tbf.

But **** me do I have serious doubts.

The football is turgid sh*t. Eveything else is just noise. Slot has to go sooner or later.

For those saying go get Alonso if caution it as I think he could be a huge risk given how player power got the better of him at Real. Big benefit of it pays off but a risk.

And that's coming from someone who wanted him over Slot and thinks he's a brilliant manager

Real are almost impossible to manage, so I really wouldn't judge a manager there, even Zidane and Carlo had trouble there despite all their success there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,204 ✭✭✭Enzokk

I want Slot to succeed, not because I believe in him or his style of play or even his social skills with the media or players, but because if he succeeds then the club succeeds. I think we are all probably saying the same thing but in a different way, some cannot see it improving and think a change is needed and others are hoping it improves and the change will happen.

What I do think is that the stories of discontent and unhappiness with the way Slot is seen in the club and handling the squad/academy, if true, means he is on borrowed time. Those stories do not happen if everyone is happy at the club and it is then just a matter of time before the trigger is pulled. It is still okay up to that point though to hope for a better outcome.

Why is it that when we post reasons that they might be underperforming they are waved away as excuses?

There are valid arguments for the poor performance this year and they are not all Slot’s fault.

With Alonso available now, it really cranks up the pressure on Slot, he really does need to get us playing decent football again before the end of the season or it's hard to see how he stays for next season, we need to see some genuine progress, not enough to be playing how we have been recently, we may be unbeaten for awhile, but, performances are terrible.

Alonso also knows how to get the best out of Wirtz ( and Frimpong) , will have had a nice break from football to refresh, and has shown he can build a team to complete on all fronts without a massive budget. Slot did great to win the league, but, can't live off that forever, and so far seems to be struggling badly to get us back anywhere close to where we were last season.

Alonso is a system manager by all accounts and the Real squad, or some of them, are not that into fitting in to those systems. Sid Lowe I think mentioned it on the Guardian Football Weekly some time ago when the first murmurs of discontent and his job being on the line that the Real board will look and see lots of managers out there that can do the job, but there is only one Vini Jr. or Mbappe.

That will be the problem for any future Real manager and the ones that has succeeded in the recent past are not huge tactics guys and even Ancelotti was fed up in the end. Zidane has not managed anyone else and I think it is for good reason.

Where are these stories of discontent coming from? I'm not on social media so I'm unaware of them.

Lads are we seriously considering removing a PL winning manager after one poxy half season? Even if it continues to be a full **** show of a season then Slott has still got my complete backing.

The team has after come on some major changes over the last 6 months and thats obviously going to take its toll on how the team perform.

We've went through so many years of being so mediocre but still stuck by the manager, why can't we stick by this guy. Not all managers are going to be The Normal Klopp type.

My opinion is if we get champs league (which we absolutely should) Slot will continue as manager next season. If we miss out there will being questions over the summer but I can only see him being moved on if the right person is available - we don’t want to end up like united on the manager merry go round picking who ever can be found behind the couch.

People keep saying our downturn was inevitable and obvious.

yet there was absolutely nobody on here during the summer saying we’d be out of the title race by October, and give up our title with a whimper.

    Go figure 🤷‍♂️

Anyone suggesting in the summer that we would regress as much as we have would have been laughed at.

Jones getting the nod over Mac. Can’t argue with that team. Thankfully Konate fit, looked to take a knock at the end of the last game

We'll need to get our ass in gear because United don't look half bad now Ruben has gone.

Should had been down to10 in the first half they won't be able to keep that up they have been offf all season

5pts to City with a win today. No excuses not to beat Burnley

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 458 ✭✭BRYAN Is Ainm Dom

Really🤔 Think plenty to argue. Jones and Gravernberch to slow together. McAllister had good game against Arsenal and is benched. Wouldn't be surprised to see our best player playing at RB again. Plenty to argue about here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,221 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Happy enough with the lineup, will be interested in seeing how the bench is used but ideally Burnley at Anfield is the kind of game that's over before the bench is needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,614 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

Why not, they only have league games for the remainder of the season, so plenty of rest and preparation time in between matches. Also with the change in manager, some players will get a new lease of life. We need to get our act together pretty soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,939 ✭✭✭Appletart Upsetter

I'd be surprised if it's not Frimpong at right back with Wirtz ahead of him. Hopefully they can reignite their relationship from Leverkusen.

I'd say Mac Allister is getting some rest ahead of Marseille during the week.

I think Jones has been better than Mac Allister and Gravenberch this season, earned his starting spot imo
