I don't think there will be many takers for a 1.0L petrol with nearly 200k km's on the clock

Seems extremely high to me too. We chatted about the Qashqai I'm selling for work colleague on another thread, 1.5 diesel top spec with 140k kms and 12k would be ambitious for that.

I presume thats worth more than a year older Ateca?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,738 ✭✭✭✭User1998

Judging by DoneDeal prices, I'd say €8k is more realistic for that Ateca. You can get a 2018 diesel with similar mileage for under €10k. So I think Tesla's trade in offer is extremely fair.

May well be but often small 1.0L petrol cars command good money. Mainly due to insurance premiums for young drivers. Not many similar Ateca’s for sale so hard to value hence it may be worth a punt on DD. If there’s no interest then the OP has the Tesla offer to fall back on. It’s valid for 30 days. Plenty diesel Quasqai’s for sale by comparison.

Maybe so, I'm all for cutting out the middleman on a car of that price

Hardly worth the hassle for 1500 extra if that’s all the private market will pay extra.

Selling privately and buying from Tesla is complicated as it’s difficult to plan when Tesla will deliver your car to time your private sale to avoid being 6 weeks car less or even up owning 2 cars at the same time and trying to faff around with insurance policies between 2 cars.

I just passed a 252 BYD on its school run ( the medium suv one, I think it’s the Seal), and it had bad dent/crinkle damage down both drivers side doors - I’ve no idea where that person goes to get a repair estimate or someone who can repair it, I assume BYD would have to direct you, and then get them to order the parts too.

Insurance companies really need some dragging in. They have all the cars stacked in their favour and we can do SFA!

I was rear ended 10 years ago. Clean cut, no fault, other insurance company admitted liability, but my insurance was higher for 5 years after and long after damages were settled. My policy wasn't openly loaded, but the quotes were always far higher with the accident listed, if they quoted at all.

I have the same crap now. Some góbshite rear ended me last year. Damage settled. No no open claims. Now when getting quotes under my Wifes policy, as soon as my accident is announced, the quotes stop. I couldn't put myself as a named driver on my Daughters policy because of it. Come renewal, i'll be shafted.

My Wifes has moved from a Nissan Leaf to a Model S 75D and the quotes have gone from a typical 5-600 to over a grand and far beyond. Her renewal on the car is thankfully around the 600 mark, but some insurers either refuse to quote on Teslas, or make you pay an Elon tax. Imagine how many @Larbre34 types we have manning the phones when you ring for a quote on your Tesla 😏

Another recent one. We took out a policy for my daughter on our Leaf so she could keep practising for her test. The Y and S are just too large for her to learn in and her test date was imminent, so we shelled out just under 2 grand for a telematics policy with Aviva and were told to contact them once she passed her test. We assumed it was for a discount/re-evaluation, as that was always how I understood it to be. She passed her test and the full license arrived this week. Not 2 weeks had passed between taking the policy and passing the test, but they gave no discount on the policy. I thought that was atrocious. Why ask her to call up when she passed her test, if not to make an adjustment on the price? The driver number is unchanged, so they don't need to update that.

    Insurance companies are just scum.

Looks like I'm facing a big increase myself i havent finished checking all providers but premium for next month looks a good bit higher than last year

Our first renewal for 2026 came in this week. 530e. Up €100 on last year. Allianz. No budging.

Rang around. €470 from Zurich using the “OneBigSwitch” link.

I move most of my polices to out insurance, seemed to be the most aggressive for taking on new customers with lower pricing. Funny they didn't look for the paper work for the NCB(which I had) made the process a small bit handier,

Regarding the talk of Tesla tax on insurance. Do you not think it's due to the HP rating. Even the base spec has the HP a performance car had a fair few years ago.

But saying that some people get cheap insurance on a Tesla. But that's insurance for you.

Partly yes. Near 300bhp on a family saloon. But it’s similar for the Seal and iPace EV400 etc

Pulled the trigger on a long range Model 3 earlier in the week and collected it today. (Now known as the premium model 3)

Thanks to all who contribute to this forum as it was extremely useful.

Question I have is related to the range. On the screen with battery at 98% was 608km. The specs had 750km WLTP.

    Is this normal?

    Thanks again.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,155 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Yes. The screen is an EPA calculation of the set wh/km against what the BMS thinks is left in the battery at any given time.

    Change to % and forget.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,512 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

The general consensus seems to be to expect 70% of WLTP range.

Thirded. Forget the GOM and lock on the % only.

    Do a few controlled drives.
Ignore all the shite you read online about range etc.

Charge to a set % and get out on the road and drive set distances at set speeds and take note of the % used.
will give you a real world figure to work from for your specific car.

    Example

    10km at 120km/h uses X%
    10km at 110

    10km at 100

    Etc

    Hi,

It doesn’t, but I had the choice to have them retrofitted for free. That was part of the inventory purchase along with free supercharging for a month and premium connectivity for a month.

I chose to collect the car today without the stalk today though in order to speed up getting my hands on it.

They will then schedule an appointment to retrofit at a service centre.

Very strange experience without the stalk at first but you actually get used to it pretty quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭Megastreisand

My understanding of the conversion from % to distance is that it's strictly based on the US version of WLTP and has nothing to do with how it was driven recently. It's a bit more realistic but still not accurate for motorway driving. However on the 'app' menu there's a sort of green mountain icon called "energy" which does give a realistic projected range based on how the car has been driven over the last 15km, 150km or 300km.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭Foreign Sports

That seems a bit low to me.

Ev database seems to have the most accurate range values though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Skipper12

no, unfortunately I missed out too. There might have been 1 when I checked but it was white and my last Tesla was white so wanted a change in colour.

I had actually sent a configuration across to Tesla asking about delivery times etc on the evening that the changes happened.

Then the changes happened which meant my configuration was no longer possible. (Standard range RWD Model 3 with extra colour and interior change)

After mulling things over went for the inventory long range rwd Model 3 that is basically the Premium Model 3.

They had one blue one in inventory in Dublin.

    Teslas pricing is so dynamic/unpredictable!!

The sales team here were genuinely blindsided by things too. Not even sure about whether orders already placed for previous configs would be fulfilled!

Anyway, looking forward to giving it a good run out tomorrow. 👍🏻

Just put in your destination into navigation to get a consumption prediction that will be accurate to within +/- 2%

They do come with mats here. They are basic enough so people generally get rubber or better mats.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,155 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

They do come with mats. As I said, ignore the internet shite! Like any other car, carpet mats are included.

If you want all weather mats, that’s a purchase on you, same as any other car.

    Amazon, Ali express etc

    Look for 3W mats.

I am 10 months into ownership. 40k done.

71 percent free charging at work (64 plus 7 percent other below before I had set it as the work location).

Diesel would have been 4k ish in that time (below not accurate)

Aside from cost it’s just a nice drive and would never go back to petrol/diesel.

My round trip commute is 240km and standard range can do it with ease.

Install an aftermarket gear change stalk. A hard wired one.

    https://www.gocompare.com/car-insurance/guide/insurance-groups/

In the UK you can find out what your car is classed at for insurance through this link, my tesla 3 LR AWD is classed as 50 the highest. the Tesla 3 Standard RWD is only 36, so i guess the premium reflects that, its annoying you can't do that here.
