I've seen mixed treatments, sometimes they offset against what you owe and sometimes you get the refund

You'd be more likely to get the full refund if you added both the rent and WFH to your tax credits late in 2026, and you'd get the refund through additional net pay through your employment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,623 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

Are Carers' Allowance payments pre-populated once DSP payments are loaded? Doing a return for a friend and there was no pop-up message to prevent the return being done until next week; no payments showing on the return either. TIA.

Carers allowance is a self declaration on a tax return up to tax year 2025. From 2026 onwards DSP notify Revenue of the payment.

Submitted 02/01, nothing back yet, should I ring?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,623 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

Did mine on 1st but expecting a manual review and an estimate based on last year of Jan 20-21st. If mines after that ill call but the calls are usually it will be done when its done.

Dare I ask what a manual review is? I stuck in for some small medical expenses and WFH tax relief, small amounts in fairness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,623 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

Sounds straight forward enough to be fair unless they are looking for receipts. Some straight forward claims fly through. Not sure what level of automation they have but in my case I know they are going to want money so im in no rush 😀

Your friend will need to download a Payment Statement from the Department of Social Protection on www.mywelfare.ie from 01/01 to 31/12 for the tax year they are submitting the eForm 12 income tax return for and submit it to Revenue as it is taxable income that needs to be included on their revenue record.

hi guys I know this off the subject but can anyone advise if a ARF pension is considered capital for the means test for carers allowance , it is accessible to draw down but it’s my pension fund and I’m 55 and really don’t want to have to use it yet . Seems to me yore punished for having a pension which is what they want you to do .

According to the Means Assessment operational guidelines, ARFs are fully assessible as means

Approved Retirement Funds (ARFs) - including AMRFs which become ARFs when an individual reaches 75 years of age - are fully accessible to the customer. The funds are accordingly fully assessable on a capital basis for social welfare means purposes.

I got a second SOL, which this time recorded an underpayment of 1.5k - a week ago I got one saying overpayment of 4.5k - I have no idea how they come to these figures

Re the two posts above - compare your most recent 2025 tax credits certificate in your inbox to the tax credits on your statement of liability.

Perhaps there were credits you forgot to claim or credits that were on your tax credit certificate that shouldn't have been? Did you declare any additional income?

I am joint assessed and PSOL prior to 16/01/2025 excluded DSP payments. A new PSOL issued today with updated DSP payments. Were you or spouse waiting on DSP payments to update?

Also, employers may have filed December payroll late or amended your 2025 payroll. Or your Tax Credits for 2025 were adjusted. So many factors for the change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,114 ✭✭✭ballyargus

We are joint assessed. There were no DSP payments to speak of, but now that you mention it Shmeee, I only received my Dec payslip yesterday, despite having received pay in December - perhaps that has a bearing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,802 ✭✭✭✭shmeee

Yes - that could be it. You're PSOL would have excluded that if it was submitted after your PSOL was received. So Revenue worked your tax due for 2025 on your 2025 pay, which would have excluded December payroll and would have more than likely been a refund position as your tax credits and tax Band in December was not used so it was factored back into your 2025 pay and tax was recalculated. If that makes sense.

Again, that may not be the case but could explain it.

Just realised they left my ICTC out of it... dont know why but they did.. even though its showing up when i amend or precess it its not being put into the sol

Requested my SOL last Thursday and still waiting for it. Definitely due tax back and I'm really depending on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,777 ✭✭✭oleras

Submitted last Friday, SOL emailed to me midday Monday and refund landed early this morning, Wednesday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,802 ✭✭✭✭shmeee

Completed my return on Sunday night. SOL today with overpayment to issue to bank account. I had a large medical expense claim on it too, and processed very quickly. Less than 72 hours.

*Funds his account last night (updated 22/12/15)

I received Social welfare in Sept. and Oct., in Nov. i had paid an awful lot more in PAYE,PRSI and USC, when i queried with my employer they said my weekly tax credit had dropped and it was for the whole year.

Because i had received SW i could not do my tax returns, claim for medical expenss till Jan. 15th, clamed on Sunday, i had underpaid by 8c last year and it was taken out of my taxretrn.

Slightly off topic, tried to login to revenue.ie to see if my sol had arrived, told I had input incorrect details (it autopopulates everything apart date of birth) , tried to reset password and was told the reset service is blocked for my account.

Do they block access for days? I presumed I'd be able to login today but I'm getting the same.

Anyone else having problems logging in?

Try contact Revenue asap, could be potential hack on your account if already was blocked prior to you.

PAYE lines seem to be pure mental, best maybe try get across to ROS/MyAccount section on 01 7383699.
