It seems to be that they do grey out dates that are already booked out but with some delay. So grey means "not available", green "maybe available". Sometimes also only one seat is available.

That would explain it yes. Probably going to wind up using them for Heathrow at this rate just for the sake of using them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75,483 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Will quite possibly end up dearer than an offer price on the same flight.

UK is the worst place to use them to and Heathrow the absolute worst of the worst.

From Dublin, maybe, but from Shannon the 2 return fares are €80 for taxes and charges. Flights are coming in at 51 out and 71 back each, so about a third of the price using the freebies…

Still not great admittedly but it beats letting them go to waste at least

I paid 97 in taxes last year for free flights Cork to Heathrow and return for 2 of us.

sorry, I am sure that it has been asked to death. If I transfer my 7,000 Revolut points to Avios, what will that achieve? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,879 ✭✭✭pureza

you’ll be able to buy a 1 way flight to London for free

A return ticket if you transfer 9000

You can use the avios to cover the taxes and charges ie the full price

Caveat is that you’ll only have access to certain flights,so you’ll need to be flexible as to when you want to go

in terms of value, you can find avios seats to places even the day before you fly or on the same day when the cost of a cash fare is very high

Your avios is very valuable in that scenario

The best way to look at avios is as a holiday savings bank

that is really great!!! Thanks so much!!! I was wondering if you can use it as a way to buy points to get towards the silver tier? But that sounds good too. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Is the travel insurance with the credit card enough for a few days in the USA or should I take out a separate policy? I can't find a policy number anywhere on it, just a generic brochure of cover so I'm wondering what I'd do in the event of a claim.

what are the economics of going with the Aer credit card with BOI?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,879 ✭✭✭pureza

No it doesn’t count towards tier points unfortunately

But as a holiday bank that is basically free when you’ve enough avios it’s great

Well you get the 2 return ‘free’ flights but only subject to availability and you have to pay your taxes and charges yourself

The avios given per spend isn’t great but neither is Revolut unless you pay for ultra in which case you’ll get 1.5 avios per euro spend on their credit card

Ultra comes with a lot of extras for your payment that you can factor into your calculations like free lounge access, free fast track ,70% of what you paid back if you cancel your trip for any reason plus full travel insurance for the trip, each trip you book with your Rev card

The list is on there site but it suits me in my situation

Aer credit card is poor in my case in comparison

Its pretty good. There's a phone number given in the docs, they will send you claim forms if needed. You don't get an individual policy number.

It was shite, but they changed provider.

Just make sure that the bulk of the trip costs are paid for on that card - the insurance is not general travel insurance, it is insurance for travel paid for with that card; for you + partner + kids.

Oh thanks i wasn't aware that it had to be paid with that card, my husband booked the trip with his own (not aerclub) credit card so I'll have to take out a single trip policy but good to know for future reference

That's great they changed provider I wasn't aware of that, thanks 👍

Does it definitely have to be paid by the card for the insurance? I was told it didn't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭SB Morer

It doesn’t say anywhere in the policy that the travel needs to be paid for on the card. (I believe it was the case way back when they first launched the card, but was quickly dropped).
The policy number is IEBOTY05924 - it’s the same policy number for all members.
Everything is quite clear in the policy document

Just be aware the travel insurance does not cover pre existing medical conditions. So it’s useless for me

How long is it taking people to get missing tier credits and Avios added to their AerClub account?

Did a multi-leg EI / AA flight last month where one of the legs wasn't credited to my account. Used the online claim form, no response. Sent email 10 days ago, nothing either apart from the autoreply.

Was the AA leg the leg that wasn't credited? Flying AA next month so wondering how smooth the process for transferring over the tier credits is.

Its a bit hit and miss with AA, sometimes it posts within 7-10 days sometimes it doesn't post

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,662 ✭✭✭Turbulent Bill

Yep, they missed one AA flight. The weird thing is that they credited the other AA flight (and both EI flights) in the booking pretty instantaneously.

A few hours in my case 2 weeks ago, husband had booked the flights and done online check in for us as they were in the app on his phone and he never put in my aerclub number at the time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,114 ✭✭✭ballyargus

The bonus flights really are a bit of a joke. I put in for them about two weeks ago, then a few days later my application was rejected because I inputted a flight number incorrectly.

I then redid them on Monday night and have only received confirmation today that my request is being processed and that I can expect to hear in 3-5 days.

From a user point of view, you have to manually enter departure and destination, dates, and flight numbers, it is incredibly cumbersome and their handling times are atrocious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,114 ✭✭✭ballyargus

my flights did just get processed and approved. I was under the impression checked luggage was included?

It seems only 10kg of carry on is actually included. AVIOS points are infinitely better.

I may end up scrapping this card as I don't think the flights and the hassle of them are worth it really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75,483 ✭✭✭✭L1011

No checked luggage included, you need to pay for that, preferably at time of booking or otherwise before check-in as it gets a good bit dearer at check in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 575 ✭✭✭user060916

Aer Lingus is a joke with the baggage allowances between the dropped off carry on bag and just constantly displaying the wrong allowances.

I can't count the number of times I've had to claim back baggage fees I was incorrectly charged.

They should rename the dropped off carry on bag to something like "Mini Checked Bag" or "Checked Bag lite"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,525 ✭✭✭Blut2

I've never actually bothered to check this before when redeeming for flights, but is advance seat selection included on avios rewards redemption flights? I know it'll be a call in to do it if so, so figure better to ask here first.

I know its not included on the credit card flights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,879 ✭✭✭pureza

    yes

Standard seats only though unless it’s business class trans Atlantic

No seat selection when booking a reward flight using avois points. You have to pay for the seats. It's a bit of a joke really. I have double the tier points needed to hit concierge again in April. I emailed the concierge line and asked them to add seats for a reward flight booking for me, my wife and my kid. They said no, I have to ring some number and pay for them. You'd think they would just add them out of goodwill with the amount of money I spend every year with them.
