Bike rack for commuting

I have a 251 Kia Ceed. I drop son to college in the morning and currently transporting bike in the hatchback. It’s a regular mountain bike.

Would like a bike rack that’s as basic but as functional as possible.

Halfords said they don’t have anything as I don’t have a tow bar. They said the rear mounted wouldn’t work on a 251 Kia Ceed.

So they said to ring Kia and ask would they have suppliers, but no luck there either.

Any suggestions on other alternatives?

Not ruling out continuing putting bike in the hatchback but with a new car would like to ensure it doesn’t get damaged.

I have a roof rack for my bike, it's a bit of effort getting it on and off but the boot is accessible

That link suggests that a Saris Bones EX would fit your Ceed.

I'm in Kildare and I have an unused 2 bike one here that I got for my missus's Kona, which for various reasons never got used. You're welcome to try it for fit if you want, I'd do you a good deal on it if it worked.

These look cool but was always wary it would mark the car and probably a pain to get the bike attached. Am I wrong?

Been using one since early 2020 without issue. Doesn't damage paint, doesn't damage bike, very quick to install and remove when not in use, rock solid at motorway speeds.

had a megane 2(hatchback), rear mounted racks would not work due to the fact large parts of the rear was made of plastic, maybe this is whats happening here? used a roof mounted rack in the end, worked with no problems, 14kg mountain bike, required roof racks though

If you're precious about the paint on your car I would certainly not use a boot mounted version like one of those.

boot mounted racks aren't recommended for any car with a plastic spoiler, which is a surprising amount of cars when you start looking closely at them.

When I used a boot mounted rack (on a boot that they could be used on), it did mark the paint work. Albeit I'm way worse at washing vehicles than I am with my bikes. I see sea suckers being used at vets races on top notch cars and bikes though.

Ya I had to get specific top straps for an Audi for my Saris boot rack. While the strap that came with it did seem to fit, it was highlighted not to use them. I'd guess though a lot of people don't read the manuals!

had a 2016 golf gtd and the only rear rack that would work is a saris bones ex because of the rear spoiler. They have a bracket high up to adjust the angle of the straps
