Now there's kids talking about water.

There's no audio on RTE jr so could they have the channels mixed up?

I wonder how many of those 12% are people in border regions who don't realise the UK Freeview channels aren't part of Saorview.

I certainly expect the percentage of the population who would self-report having "Saorview only" in the border counties is an order of magnitude higher than those outside the border counties.

They were getting UK stations long before Saorview and Freeview ever existed. They know the difference.

I wonder if they're playing out some programmes that maybe hadn't been broadcast before, just to fulfil a contract or something? RTEjr was playing out something a few days ago.

Maybe. It was a strange time of the night to have kids programmes on a random channel.

The quiz said it would be back next week but it was obviously recorded. It was a weird, sort of interactive thing, just someone asking ten questions per round with a space between them and the answers given at the end.

    I'll have another listen tonight.

There doesn't seem to be any plans to streamline/tidy up the radio EPG channel numbers (like putting Gold on 201 & Maria on 205) when the closed radio stations are deleted on Friday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭Mickey Mike

They should be a tidy up job, 201 for Gold definitely, I'm surprised that Maria Ireland is still on it, I have a feeling they will drop out too sometime if DAB+ takes hold.

RTE defunct channels are now withdrawn from Saorview, they need to reorganise the rest of their radio channels.

I'd have 200 blank and put RTÉ Radio 1 on 201 with 2fm on 202, which somewhat aligns the channel names with the channel numbers.

Put Gold on 205 after RnaG.

If the quiz as supported by the Sound and Vision Fund it must air in peak listening hours which they now define as between 7am to I think 9pm (at least 8pm), the indos lobby for it to change from 7pm as they could not even fit it into their 7 to 7 schedule at the weekend for these Licence fee supported programmes. But RTÉ should just move them to GOLD.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

RTÉjr Radio is back on 207, though not broadcasting anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭Mickey Mike

All radio channels EPG now completely withdrawn, only thing left is to reorganise the numbers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,526 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

Personally I think RTÉ Radio 1 should move from 200 to 201, RTÉ Gold from 208 to 205, and Radio Maria Ireland from 210 to 206. All other genres start with the number 1

Is there any reason why the Radio channels can't start at 31, why are they all the way up to the 200's?

The Saorview Information channel with the Line-up stil lists the 5 stations that have been removed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,749 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Why do they need to be in the 200s? Why not put them at 31

    31 - Radio 1

    32 - 2FM

33 - Saved for Today FM

    34 - RnaG

    35 - Lyric FM

    36 - Saved for Newstalk

    37 - RTÉ Gold

    38 - Radio Maria

39 - Saved for Classic Hits

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

RTE put those radio channels in the 200s thinking there would be over a hundred channels by now, how wrong they were, a bit of a shambles, if anything they could move

    Radio1 101

    2FM 102 etc.

Today fm, Classic hits, Newstalk should take up a position but sadly can't see it happening

Saorview has staked its claim to LCNs 1-299, with TV, radio, SSU and engineering test channels. Vestel TVs like Walker use LCNs 300 upwards to store the satellite channels.

It's likely LCNs in the 30s range could be used for future IP delivered services.

    2 changes last night

The test card on 28 has been removed, saving 0.5 Mb/s

And Mux 2 has switched from FEC 2/3 to 3/4 on certain transmitters adding an extra 3 Mb/s of capacity

Also, RTE One was briefly broadcasting in SD this morning?

Update: FEC change has been reverted

Can we ever hope to get Sky News in HD on Saorview with all the movement that's going on there at present?

Whatever about Sky news, VM channels or even VM1 would be welcome but we all know that's never going to happen.

What about RTE news channel in HD on saorview

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1 cacimes

I think Saorview should add Sky Sports HD.

What benefit would be, RTÉ News Now is of little benefit now. They might want to first

    1. Consider what is broadcast on the channel
    2. Consider the schedule
    3. Consider the interface of the channel

As likely as getting anything else on Saorview TBH.

Not a hope, they would need to add an encryption method and market new set top boxes that support it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 168 ✭✭Aidan McCarthy

No way. Not a hope. I can't see that to happen

18 months ago… Would it really take that long that we'd only be seeing it potentially come to screen now/soon? Or has this been abandoned?

I suspect that RTÉ had prior plans in place once their tender agreement was signed off to upgrade the RTÉ News Channel to HD once some of their digital radio stations had closed down on Saorview last week. RTÉ must be contiuning that leg work now over the past week or so to eventually upgrade their news channel to HD either now or in the near future. What was the quality of the test card being removed on LCN 28; was it in SD or HD?
