    Me

Tesla model 3 performance '22 275km in winter. I like to keep her lit mostly, anyone else want to divulge? Oh and im not praising or running down any car i believe a 75kw battery will do the same range in any car within reason.

'25 BMW iX1 eDrive 20. Currently around 350km from the 62kWh battery. Was as low as 330km when it was subzero.

77kwh Tavascan about 360 motorway over Christmas in just above zero degrees

21/22 kwh per 100km in winter

Long term average 18 i could get close to 450 motorway maybe 100% to empty

23 BMW iX40 good for about 270km in winter but that would be mostly motorway driving at somewhat 'European' speeds where possible or very short journeys of less than 5km with a heavy foot. It equates to about 26.5kWh/100km.

Very recently replaced by Tesla model 3 rwd (dodged the bullet on that woeful value new standard thing) which seems to be good for about 370km in winter with similar driving so about 100km more range than the iX despite having an 11kWh smaller battery.

2011 leaf 8/12 bars left, probably about 45-50km with full heat etc on, vs 65-75km in summer. Most I got was around 90km or so but that was on back roads on a perfect 18 degree day

ev tech has rapidly advanced in the last few years, tis pretty impressive, have you owned the car from new, if so, how has it degraded over time, what kind of range were you getting when new?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,760 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

I bought it a couple of years ago at auction sight unseen. In that time I've added around 20k km and lost approx 2 percentage points of SOH (so from 68% down to just under 66%).
I did have a 2014 leaf from nearly new and that would do 120km on a full charge in summer and 90-100km in winter.

My 2011 leaf is perfect for the school run, even with 2 school runs in a day in the depths of winter it still has plenty of buffer to run heating etc.

Not the same thing as what were talking about though is it.

I think it's exactly what you were asking. Ev database clearly lists cold and hot weather range, in urban, mixed and motorway uses. Of nearly every EV in the world. It seems to be an accurate site, taken from many thousands of data points.

    Not sure, whats the beef?

    2022 ID4 77kwh.

    Definitely depends on the weather.

    Left with 100% both times

Couple of weeks ago when it was very cold did 215km and arrived home with 13% left

Yesterday the same trip, same driver, same route and the car arrived home with 35% left

2014 24kwh leaf 10 bars left. My 60 km route to work takes between 55 and 75% of battery. None of that on motorways.

    25 standard model 3, 350km

    232 MG4. 64kwh battery. 435km WLTP.

Was getting about 315kms in the worst of the cold snap. 346kms estimated range on fully charged yesterday. Mix of motorway, rural roads and urban driving.

232 Skoda Enyaq 60. In summer get about 365km from a full charge, winter that's down to about 290km on a full charge. Mainly urban driving with the odd long run.

Exactly. That ev database is a good guide but I find it too conservative. At least on cars I owned for the winter ranges I'd get 80-85% of what they put. Or less.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,498 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Agree. I find EV database very optimistic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,030 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

I've always gone with the rule of thumb of 70% of the WLTP being the accurate range so that tallies fairly well

Last week I did Limerick-Wexford and back in my Model 3 RWD. Left Limerick on 100%, arrived in Wexford on 53%. Similarly left Wexford on 85% and arrived in Limerick on 33%

About 180km used about 50% which gives me a range of 360km or 72% of the stated 500km when I bought it so that tallies fairly well in fairness

261 Tavascan 77Kwh….full charge is currently saying 460KM - but on a 300km route trip commute starting at 100% arriving home with 24%

Interestingly this is the same as our second car , i find it very efficent compared to the Tesla, the claimed range is alot more realistic. I wonder are the new ev's like mercedes A class going to do anything like the claims. My friend bought a new electric A6 with a claim of 700k it only gets 400ish. Quite a difference there.

EV database uses highway speed approx 110kmph, but is still a good comparator.

242 Porsche Macan (95kw battery net), 26kwh/100km at 125kph motorway in very cold wet weather , so about 350km at worst.

EV Database also uses -10 as the temperature for the cold figures, and it's very, very, very rare to get that cold in most parts of Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 776 ✭✭✭mr chips

My car is a 64kWh e-Niro. The vast majority of my driving is on motorways or dual carriageways, but in all bar the coldest weather such as what we had last week, the closest range figure from the database that matches my motorway driving experience is the "city - cold weather" one of 230 miles/375km - I usually get close to 240miles, but it could be 5-8% less when it's below 5C and the same amount higher above 18C. One problem I have with that database is that it bases its figures on weather conditions that are beyond either extreme for this part of the world, i.e. their version of mild weather is above 23C and of cold weather is 10 below zero. Most of the year, our temperatures generally range from the mid single figures up to the high teens, with only a few weeks at most going below/above that in the depths of winter and the height of summer.

for winter motorway range estimates, EV DB use an assumed environment of -10c and 110kmph from 100-0%. It’s not really a real world Irish example at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,760 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

We never get -10 and I never go 110 on the motorway (120+vat) and people never drive from 100 to zero.

iD5 Pro + 2 years old. It's less than 400km this winter. It was better last winter.

Going on my first long journey in my EV6 tomorrow (410km or so round trip) so will get a good idea of the actual winter range then. I suspect that I'll need a quick top up somewhere before I get back, but I'll have it at 100% for departure in the morning.

I have an MG4 long range exclusive as well which in summer says it'll do just over 400km (official WLTP is 435km), but on a long trip like that may do 350. This time of year it'd struggle to get to 300 probably, and that's on a trip with half of it on motorways with speeds around 110kph typically to not go too hard on it while still not being silly slow, and the rest on mostly 2 lane carriageways and through towns (the N4).

    Ford Etransit Courier 43kwh.

    Picked up on the 5/01/26

Average has been 21kwh/100km for 950km. 200km range.

It has been either freezing or cold and wet since collection. Heating set to 20 degrees, heated seats and steering wheel always on.

10 year old Model S 90D. I used 65% driving 205km from Dublin to Galway, so a total range of 315km in Winter at 100+ km/h

Personally I think ev database is fairly accurate, for my car.

If you were to view 110kmh@ -10c, to be similar to 120kmh@ 0-3c, I've been getting similar distances over 3 winters.

And I've had car down to 3/4/5% multiple times. I do a 260km continuous motorway route fairly regular, across the year. I have "bail-out" chargers in both directions for final 30km. I've never needed to use them.

And yes, I plug in car the very second I reach destination and charge to above 20%.

Also max range seems accurate too.
