That weather on RTE 1 with Mark Bowe is shocking. Hes not fit for tv.

Well after my post that it wasn't too bad in Dublin it went downhill😮.

We were nearly blown away heading to swimming lessons.

Lets hope that wind in gone by tomorrow.

His meteorological CV is quite impressive

Back to work for me today, after an extended Christmas break. A mild 7C in north Longford, light mizzle falling too on my drive to town. It was breezy enough at 6am when I first went out, but has calmed down now.

The problem with Mark Bowe is his lack of presentation skills. He speaks far too quickly and rarely finishes his words.

What a difference a day makes.… There is a chance, but it could well be that we are still too far west. If we do happen to get an easterly it shows that sometimes op runs can lead the way against a less interested suite

He is no wink man or eagle for sure. I would love to see a presenter in the vein of those two- learned people who wear it lightly, but more importantly are able to communicate it to the likes of me in an entertaining and folsky manner

I think he will be fine if given a bit of time. It's not easy speaking to the nation.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

actually a lovely bright sunny day hear near Trim… not bad at all…

We all know our snow shield is working in Meath but Looking at the radar today it's working for the the rain showers as well.

Maybe it's all the solar farms in the county creating a micro climate 🤔

God I miss the eagle. If memory serves me right he actually did not present the weather on RTE for that long, maybe 4/5 years from 2006-2010? I could be wrong though.

that's the only good thing about the shield is it shields us from rain as well especially in the summer months.

Yeah I think he was on Radio a lot longer than tv. I can't remember the exact years he was on tv to be honest.

my post you replied to was actually tongue-in-cheek if you look at the date on the chart. We had an anticyclonic October and also a big anticyclone over Northern Europe around the solstice and both are precursors of a cold winter. I’m not predicting a 1947 as it would be foolish to even attempt predicting a 21st century winter but optimistic that the Atlantic can held back by cold intensifying over Europe.

not predicting a severe second half of winter but just saying the signs are good for a winter that might even be interesting for a change!

    Hi all

nice to see Ireland experience some wintry weather recently even if many didn't see any snowfall

here in Sweden it was a slightly later start than normal to our winter in Norra Gotland but we have had decent snowfall and very low temperatures over the last two weeks-current snow depth is 20cm at my local weather station(Sorbytorp) and we have been getting down to minus 15 some nights

the north eastern coast north of Gavle has seen some spectacular snow fall since the 1st of Jan even by Swedish standards

some stations have had nearly 1 metre of accumulated snowfall there(Harnebo for example)

also in the south there have been some very heavy snowfalls there with places such as Oskarshamn reporting 50cm of snowfall and Gothenburg had public transport shut down due to the amount of snow falling

and up in the far north they have had extremely low temperatures-down to minus 40 in places

this week will be much milder than recent weeks and we should get back up to zero or slightly above freezing in many areas in Sweden

there are signs next week though that temperatures might start dropping again so maybe Ireland will get another cold blast in 10 days or so

The Meath shield is working like a bloody magnet for that shower train this evening

I think he was on TV from at least 2000. I'm sure I remember him on TV giving forecasts during the cold spell of late Dec 2000 for example.

Thanks Bill. Didn’t realise he was on TV that long. He was probably on radio even longer.

Waterford city was very mild today in terms to temp but when it rained it poured! Very Very heavy showers.

Overnight rain has cleared off here in North Longford. Bright morning and temperature now down to 3.5c. It looks like it's going to be a bright sunny day ahead.

Ice on the car this morning. Looks like it will be a lovely bright day.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Similar in Limk City plus a recent light fog has formed. 2.2c presently but a nice day looks imminent.

Heavy Showers last night. 1C with blue skys. I for one hope that's the last of the frost and ice. Heating doesn't pay for itself and Ice is lethal to foot or wheel.

a beautiful day in Meath today, bags of sunshine, not a cloud in the sky all day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,312 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

Lovely day and cold. Highs of 7 and down to 3 and 4 for next week or so in Dublin. Are the cold lovers happy enough with this? I'm enjoying how calm it is.

I was down through Carrigallen and on to Derrylin in fermanagh yesterday afternoon. It was a very showery drive and there were multiple rainbows visible throughout my drive.
