Domestic Solar PV Quotes 2026 - No PM requests - See Mod note post #1

    Link to 2024 thread.

    The max grant is €1800.

Boards users have recommended a rule of thumb of €1,000 per 1kWp (kiloWatt of panels) + €200 per 1kWh battery, after grant deducted. This is not a precise rule and quotes are often more, with some slightly less. However, the rule will stop you getting rolled over by one or two companies who chance their arm and quote prices several thousand over the rule of thumb with little justification.

Thinking of going solar this year, and got this quote recently.

18 x Trina Solar Co., Ltd. 445 Watt Panels (TSM-445NEG9RC.27)
    1 x Sigen Hybrid 5.0 SP2 (Sigenergy)
    1 x SigenStor BAT 6.0 (Sigenergy)
    1 x NC6 Micro-Generaton Registration, 1 x BER, 1 x Projoy Shunt Switch

    Standard System Price

    €8,800.00

    6kW Sigenergy Battery

    €2,500.00

    Christmas Offer

    €-500.00

    Total System Price

    €10,800.00

    Purchase Price

    €10,800.00

    Deposit Payable

    €5,400.00

They seem to be a reputable installer based locally. In 2025 I used 5737 kWh

Ok Im hoping this is the right place to post, if not Mods, please feel free to move.

I was given a quote approx November '24 but due to personal issues couldnt go through with the purchase.

We are approx using 3370kW per year (10.2kW per day) give or take. What we were quoted was

    6 or 8 x 450w solis/atlas duo panels

    1 x Solis inverter

    1 x 5Kw battery (options to add a secondary battery so 2 x 5Kw)

    Guaranteed BER Upgrade C > B

No hot water eddi needed as combi boiler

Price came in at just over 9.5k (with grant + second battery) so now the grant is lower in '26 I'm thinking just above 10k

I have 2 questions really, from the above I think most would know the installer

    1. Im thinking a little on the expensive side?

    2. Is the second battery really needed? Is there anyone (i dont need named) that provide a single battery of 6kW+) —— I mean Id just forget the panels, buy 2 batteries and charge them at the cheaper rate at night and use them during the day, haha

are you limited to 6 or 8 panels. Would the roof take more ?

    the price is very high

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,911 ✭✭✭Rattlehead_ie

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately there is only front and back roof. One SE facing (great) other is NW facing (not so great) and therefore little to no point in putting panels there so yeah 6 - 8 is my max.

NW is well worth having panels on so check out this site and put the panels in to see a rough estimate of production https://re.jrc.ec.europa.eu/pvg_tools/en/#PVP

if they can put the NW panels on a separate string it might still be worthwhile. It shouldn't add much to the price and might be cheaper altogether if you get different quotes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,911 ✭✭✭Rattlehead_ie

    @ted1 @con747

Can you explain that a little more to me.....I just want to understand the logic behind it. I was adamantly told by the 1 provider who did the site survey that the NW was not worth it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,919 ✭✭✭✭con747

Plenty of people here have North on their systems which will get anything up to 60% of a South string in a year so a NW should be even more. Put the NW panels into the website I linked to see how much could be generated.

a Separate String will mean that it wont affect the output form the rest of the system.

panels are about €55 wholesale. you are paying for an electrician, roofer , BER and inverter. adding a few extra panels won't add to much to the cost. maybe 1/2 to an hour for the roofer, that's it. instead of 3 year pay back it might be 5. but certainly worth it.

    a 3.2kw system with a 5kw battery should be closer to 5-6k.

Just wanted to check on a quote I received.

Currently use ~10,500kW per year. Have a ground source heat pump. Based off that I was quoted for the following below.

12x450W jinko Panels. Restricted by the available space.

    Sigenergy 5kW Inverter

    Sigenergy 2x9kW batteries

    BER cert.

    11,500 total.

ignore your usage, go as big as your roof can take.

is that 11,500 before of after the Grant?

    Hey guys

Just a slight update and thanks to both for the information about the NW panels and seperate string. Spoke to one particular company who "sat with me" and went through the whole thing and the logic and they were in agreement that while the NW won't do much for me...at the cost of panels it will do enough to offset any use if the battery during peek times and help save on the battery use to feedback to the grid. So with an additional 8ish panels on the NW facing its a no brainer for where I am.

They are going to do an additional survey and come back to me with a quote but initially not only the quote but the companies attitude to helping me understand my situation probably has me going with them....I'll update here when I get the quote.

One of the best tools out there is this one from the EC, https://re.jrc.ec.europa.eu/pvg_tools/en/#PVP

Using that assuming 8 panels at 450w each.. 3.6kWp

    image.png

just a smidge over 2000kWh. worst case all was exported at 18.5c, Thats 370/year and thats worst case, any of that you use directly increases that saving. You can run the math on that.

    Same 8 panels SE:

    image.png

3100kWh, The NW panels will produce 66% of the total amount the SE do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,911 ✭✭✭Rattlehead_ie

..and I thought network engineering was complicated at times :P Thanks @graememk I had seen the site and was trying to figure it out but between 60 - 70% was where one of the installers had mentioned, so its worth it to put the panels up, but to make sure they are on a separate string acording to other boardsies and the isntaller

I'm probably missing something very simple with this tool, but how/where do you input the panel direction? Is it the Azimuth field? Thanks 😎

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 7,609 Mod ✭✭✭✭graememk

Yep azimuth, there's a helper if you click the star.

-90 is east, 0 is south, 90 is west

    So NW is 135

    SE is -45

    Hi all ,

Can I have ye're valued opinions on the following quotes.

For reference our usage in 2025 was @ 15000 kwh.

I have a work EV and will be changing our car to EV later this year as well.

Not on EV rate atm ,contract up shortly will be shopping around for best deals.

    Quote 1

    24 panels

    5 k invertor Sygenergy

    20 kw batteries Sygenergy

    €15000 after grant.

    Quote 2

    22 panels

    5k Invertor GoodWe

    2 x 8 kw batteries GoodWe

    €11500 after grant.

Anyone any info ,experience of GoodWe?

Is it worth adding a 3rd battery to bring up to 24 kw ? If price is reasonable ?( On GoodWe quote. )

    Thanks.

Ps ,I have 2 other quotes (Sygenergy system)

    both at @ the €15000.

    22 panels/20kw batteries.

    A Solis /Dyness at €13600

    22 panels / 20 kw batteries.

Thanks again, based in the west. South facing roof.

I actually have a quote for a similar set up (albeit a smaller battery):

    24 x 475 Watt Panels (AIKO-A475-MCE54Db)

    1 x SigenStor BAT 10.0

    1 x SigenStor EC 5.0SP

1 x Sigenergy HomeMax SP Gateway

    €12,700 (after SEAI grant).

I am thinking of increasing the battery capacity by adding 1 x SigenStor BAT 6.0 to that setup, but that depends on how much they'll charge me for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭Sponsorgate

    Decent quote.

For reference. Had my install in August.

22 x 445 Watt Panels (TW Bifacial Black)

    Sigen Energy Controller 5.0kW,Hybrid Inverter.

    2 x SigenStor BAT 10.0

    €12,820 (after SEAI grant).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,651 ✭✭✭✭El Weirdo

They just got back saying they can add the 6.0 battery for €2,100.

Hi all, just doing.ky solar panel review and got a first quote yesterday. I was slightly underwhelmed on the level of review, calculation etc by the rep as I understood the most important thing was analysising usage etc.

I was pushed towards the below with the note that it is very smart with ai etc. Im not overly.cpncerned re ai and the modules themselves will be attic installed so the look isent important. Are there other similar spec inverters/ batteries that can learn habits and automatically decide best time to buy, sell, etc.

    Sigen Energy Controller Single Phase

    5 kW of Inverter Power

    Sigenergy

    1 x SigenStor EC 5.0SP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,911 ✭✭✭Rattlehead_ie

Ok so I think I got my best quote

    15 x 470w IONGI Panels (7 SE + 8NW Split) - 6.9Kw System (25yr warranty)

    5.5kW Inverter (10yr warranty)

    10kW Battery (10yr warranty)

    Solis based system

My usage is between 3100 - 3700kW a year and know the system is overkill but I expect to be adding heatpump etc in approx 4 - 5 years time.

Total with grant deductions : €8400

My issue is that it seems to good to be true, but the reviews of the nationwide installer are very positive.

Getting some quotes for an install in north Dublin in recent weeks.

    Quote 1.

    8x470w Longi EcoLife Panels (3.76kW).
    5kW Solis Hybrid Inverter.
    10.24 kWh Dyness Battery
    No BER Included.
    €7,500 after Grant.

    Quote 2.

    8x500w JA Solar Panels (4kW).
    5kW Solis S5 Hybrid Inverter.
    10.24 kWh Dyness Battery.
    No BER Included.
    €7,100 after Grant.

    Still exploring options.
8 panels is the limit to my roof space, south facing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,919 ✭✭✭✭con747

Who told you 8 was the limit? I was told I couldn't get 8 but have 16 east/south/west so be sure to check the installers listed on the installers page because they won't fill you full of waffle. If your roof has space for north facing it's well worth putting them on because they can generate anywhere from 50 to 60 odd % of south so well worth it.

Its strange to see a quote without a BER. I thought that if you wanted the Grant a BER report had to be done?
However, its not so expensive so you could get it yourself. Those quote seem on par with what I was being offered for similar.

It does but it's not on the installer to do it AFAIK, in my case 4 years ago I had to get my own report done costing €320.
