Delighted to hear that KK have a challenge match against WX on Wednesday night probably to give a bit of game time to the regulars.Yesterday’s performance wasn’t too bad for a dirty day.

Good run out yesterday in tricky conditions. Obviosuly can't read too much into it with Laois having played mid week but I'd agree with a lot of what Nippy said in his post. I thought Tallis was excellent in goals, made a couple of good saves and his puckouts were top class, it was noticable the work they were doing with the new goalkeeping coach before the game. I thought the outfield players looked really sharp and some of the new lads, Beirne, Moore and Garrett looked good. It looks like Carey will be tried at full back, you can't read much into yesterday and if he is Derek's man he has to be given time to settle in but I'd be slightly concerned with him at full back he's a bit all or nothing back there and think he's better suited to either wing back or corner back where he'd have a bit more scope for attacking. Killian Doyle is another who I thought did well, he did the simple things very well and looked very comfortable. We all seen the quality of the UL panel last week and I think it says a lot that Killian's not only starting but captain of that team, hopefully he'll gain confidence from that and kick on this year and nail down a place on the team, if he did it gives management more flexibility with where they can play Cian Kenny as he was very effctive at centre forward during last year's league and if he was laying at 11 could be another option on the frees if TJ isn't starting.

I thought Kilkenny's pace and intent with regards to working the ball was really good. They perhaps overdid it a bit but it was the best I've seen them doing it - in bad conditions. The puck outs were fast and the ball was moved through the hands at pace. Everyone was on the same page and kept the pace up. There was no let-up. Admittedly they will face better intensity going forward but I was impressed with the tone.

Yep, excellent thoughts just like those from other supporters who were at the match. I heard our match wasn't accessible on Clubber/firestick! Perhaps that's the reason for less than usual expert comments!

On Killian Doyle, he must be doing something right as he managed to hold down a starting spot with the much vaunted UL team for the last few years. Much comment on here about the UL panel but no acknowledgement of Doyle.

Would agree any player captaining a Fitz gibbon cup team is no fluke or token gesture especially looking at the ul panel

I'd no issues with Clubber, maybe there going after the dodgy boxes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 503 ✭✭✭Nedflanders02

Yeah I think the fella who owns/runs Clubber was doing the rounds basically saying that Dodgy boxes are killing streaming services like Clubber and taking money away from them even though they are still getting use of the service, so I'm guessing they're trying to fight back against the dodgy boxes as much as they can.

On the topic of Doyle, he came on last year v Tipp and brought some much needed energy and won a few important possessions the few minutes he was on, he should have been on 12-15 mins earlier with a couple more lads and i believe we would have won as we 3/4 players gassed out. Lyng and Dowling made a balls of Doyle's last year u 20 campaign and probably cost Kilkenny an Ireland at it too. He should be a nailed on starter this year bar a dip in progression which i doubt will happen.

Yeah heard that on Off the Ball, I'd have alot of sympathy for the likes of Clubber and the League of Ireland soccer streaming regards dodgy boxes, but I've absolutely none for the likes of Sky who are fleesing people in a cost of living crisis.

Lyng fucked over Doyle and Mark Dowling with the Carlow match, can't put any blame on the U20 management for that one.

Glad to see Killian Doyle getting some due recognition. Some posters were so taken away by the depth of talent on the UL panel that they ignored one of our own.

Even if we stick with Kenny and Molloy at centrefield, Killian would be a great option to bring on as a sub. In a number of games in the last couple of years, we have been poor in the last 20 minutes. I think the likes of John Donnelly, Mossy and Billy Ryan put in huge efforts tracking back but start to tire. We need players to come on towards the end of matches.

I also thought Killian Doyle was very good yesterday, seems to have all the attributes to be the perfect modern midfielder. He’s an athlete with a great engine and always seems to be available or makes himself an option for a pass. Then on the ball he always seems to make good decisions and uses it intelligently.

He never tries the Hollywood option, just keeps it nice and simple. If I had one criticism it would be that he doesn’t contribute on the score board enough and doesn’t seem to be overly confident in his ball striking. He’s young though and has plenty of time to develop that part of his game.

I also thought Darragh Corcoran was immense yesterday and it’s hard to believe he was dropped from the panel last year. I’m conscious of the fact that his man picked off a few scores but in the modern game it’s very difficult to keep your direct opponent scoreless and Darragh looks a good bet to feature at number six for us this year.

It’s frustrating that when we finally look to have found a centre back, we now have to try and find a full back when that was the one position that we didn’t have to even think about in the last few years.

Yes, couldn't download the Laois/Kilkenny match after it was over. I find Clubber give a good product and cover

a lot of our games, so we can forgive an occasional blip.

I just logged in there and it's available to watch in full.

Only criticism on the clubber coverage is the camera seemed too low.

Hard to see the ball once it went up high or over the bar

It takes them couple of hours to upload it, they show it live and then upload it after.

Yeah there's no stand, terrace or grass bank in Rathdowney.

sorry for been late getting back to you Billy it’s on in Carlow IT at 7.30 Wednesday night. Check it out.I’ll go down for the crack anyway WX will want that match as much as we do,so it could be interesting.

Cheers, just have something else on now so won't be able to make it myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭KK36

God I'm not sure I'd describe him as immense. He was picked off by the centre forward for 3 points and he also had a couple of wides. That's too many shots to be conceding. I'd also worry about a lack of pace. I'd be worried about him being our centre back but it's certainly worth giving him a run of games to see can he nail the spot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,817 ✭✭✭Charlie69

Thats fair enough, and maybe immense was going a bit overboard. I did think he played very well though… (were you at the game?) he looked hungry for the ball and was always available for a pass , maybe he likes to get forward a bit much and he’ll have to be careful there.

I also don’t think he has any issues with pace and he actually covers the ground quite quickly, He is a bit slow to turn and I think that gives the impression that he’s not very mobile. In a straight line though pace isn’t an issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 659 ✭✭✭jamesbond2022

To be fair the Laois centre forward drifts all over the pitch and never goes toe to toe with the opposing centre back having also watched laoises game against carlow the week before he played the same way so it’s probaly up to a midfielder to keep a closer eye on him

Liam Moore should probably get another go tomorrow night as he is not involved in colleges and maybe Connellan too ? Anyone know what other newcomers are not involved in college’s

Agree with you Corcoran entitled to first go at no 6 this year but like you I have worries about his pace . Losing the toss in Westmeath cost us meaninful warm up matches. In Rathdowney playing a Laois team that was playing game 3 in 7 days meant little could be taken from it. I thought Tallis, Eoin Cody, young Garret, Jordan Molloy and Mick Brennan for the length of time they were on the field looked class hurlers. Young Brennan is some free taker as well and could be one to come from the pack. Liam Moore, Cahal Beirne, Killian Doyle and Ivan Bolger I felt acquitted themselves well. Games in the league v Offaly, Limerick, Waterford, Cork, Galway , Tipp will tell us a hell of a lot more. PS Peter McDonald played midfield, and gossip repeated on here as fact that he dropped himself from the panel was absolutely unfair on the chap.

James Walsh definitely not. Niall Shortall and Rory Garret who I was impressed with in game before Christmas and Sunday I'm unsure of. Marty Murphy was not named in UL Squad named last week either.
