Very bad statement to issue. Maybe Trump starts pushing the line that Greenland should be independent. Maybe some outside interference campaign gets waged to get them to vote on independence (maybe it's down the line of Greenland shouldn't be stuck in-between US and EU infighting and should be free etc…) and as a result they end up loosing their NATO/EU protection and the US is free to invade.

Trump says that Denmark isn't doing enough to defend Greenland so the EU and Denmark should immediately sent a few warships and subs there along with some spcial forces and drones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,852 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

The question is…. what country is the biggest threat to Greenland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,154 ✭✭✭saabsaab

If Trump is a Russian asset then he will take Greenland by force. Putin would be delighted - NATO finished. EU split.

Yes, its no secret and they already had discussions, so why say it. It only opens them up to Trump further claims that its not Danish. Smacks of the stuff a local county councillor would say rather than dealing with a major geopolitical issue. The fact 5 parties agreed to release it is mind boggling.

The issue too often is painted only in military of Denmark vs US terms. If the EU supports Denmark and uses issues like trade and regulation of Big Tech, going after US monopolies in the European courts with fines, selling US Treasuries, we have leverage.

What brought the Suez Crisis to an end in 1952 was the US selling the Pound Sterling and threatening to continue doing so.

There may or may not be mid term elections.

It is extremely unlikely that there will be 'free and fair' midterm elections.

Holding elections doesn't make you a democracy.

America crossed the border between a democracy and something else a long time ago.

Oligarchy, Plutocracy, gerontocracy, kleptocracy...take your pick, but its a very very very long way from a democracy (rule by the people, for the people and by consent of the people)

    Ban billionaires

Remember Havana Syndrome years ago where US diplomats had symptoms like nose bleeds and vomitting?

Suggestions that something producing similar symptoms against Venezuelan soldiers were used by the US to disable the radars. Produced health affects like vomiting and nose-bleeding. Karoline Leavitt retweeted it.

Decent chance that’s propaganda from US side, especially with that Karolyin’ scumbag amplifying it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,897 ✭✭✭threeball

Sounds like horseshit. Did they just come up with this recently because they could have done with it in Afghanistan. If it came from Leavitt its 99.99999999999% lies.

Reposting this document. It is the regulation for all law enforcement officers in the US. The so called ice agents, who were masked and did not have proper identification , broke the regulations governing their actions. Some had police tags on their chests. They are not police so they were impersonating police officers.

What they were doing was unlawful and they wound up murdering an innocent young woman.

I am not so sure their statement is truthful because Ross fled the scene and drove off in his vehicle.

I don’t thing it is posturing. Marco Rubio stated a few days ago the trump does not play games. When trump says something he means it.

US prosecutor has opened an investigation into Jerome Powell, chair of the fed. Powell has come out and directly said it's bullshit and he's only being investigated because he is refusing to cut interest rates per the presidents direction.

    This is big.

    https://www.federalreserve.gov/newsevents/speech/powell20260111a.htm

It's worth noting that Trump himself appointed Powell to the Fed during his first term.

It is shocking. It would be like the UK government threatening to prosecute the Governor of the Bank of England.

It's not surprising that the US Dollar has slid 10% against the Euro in 2025. The pressure to lower interest rates makes Dollar denominated assets less attractive because the currency tends to weaken when interest rates drop.

Also problematic is the threat to investigate him based on his testimony before the Senate. it looks like punishment for answering the questions of the Senators.

It is a fact that Woodrow Wilson would not have gotten the Federal Reserve Act through the then Republican Congress if it had given him personal control of interest rates.

It's like several years worth of news has happened in the last few days. Powell is gone in May anyway so this is an absolute power play

This event alone threatens the economic stability of the West. A run on the Dollar? Who'd hold treasuries with this going down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,063 ✭✭✭Ozymandius2011

For an example of what happens when a Government decides interest rates by itself, look at Turkey a few years ago with hyperinflation. Erdogan had an odd theory that lowering interest rates would reduce inflation. After the presidential election he narrowly won, he returned to a more conventional monetary policy and inflation fell from three digit to 2 digit inflation.

I also recall in the UK before the Labour Government gave the Bank of England independence in 1997, ministers would lower interests before an election and raise them afterwards.

It seems the DOJ excuse for trying to prosecute Powell is the cost of the renovations of the Fed building.

However, the Grand Jury system is a barrier to Trump going after his enemies without restraint. Any charges have to be approved by them, and 3 times they have refused to indict Leticia James.

Exactly, as did Biden) by following the law and due process, not by unleashing untrained armed thugs on a civilian population - hence the media attention. Also, Obama did not fire 15% of the immigrantion judges from an already under staffed immigration service.

    In order:

Not a crime and no harassment occurred.

    Not a crime.

Might have occurred but she was leaving ( no longer obstructing ) when she was murdered.

There were no lawful commands. ICE has no authority unless they have a warrant or reasonable suspicion that the person is undocumented. Neither apply.

As above - had no authority to attempt an arrest. Nor was there any recognizable attempt to arrest before she was shot.

There is no evidence that she drove at any agent.

Scuba, I have linked you directly to the part of the US Code which says they can make an arrest for any federal offense.

You are making hand-waving statements without any any supporting legal basis.

Mail on Sunday reports Trump has ordered Special Force Commanders to draw up plans for the invasions of Greenland, but is meeting resistance from top brass.

Also JD Vance has claimed the War Powers Act is "fake" and unconstitutional. This law was passed after Vietnam.

Latest on gerrymandering/redistricting race. Democrats in Washington State looking at redistricting.

Despite tensions over Greenland, US proceeds with a key arms deal with the Denmark for Poseidon. Deal not done yet though.

On December 29th, the US National Security Cooperation Agency revealed it approved a new arms deal that will allow Denmark to purchase up to three Multi-Mission Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft Poseidon P-8A aircraft and related equipment. The agency noted the deal will cost an estimated $1.8 billion and help improve a key NATO ally’s security and defense.

“The proposed sale will enhance Denmark’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing a credible force that is capable of deterring adversaries and participating in NATO operations. The proposed sale will support its goal of improving national and territorial defense as well as interoperability with US and NATO forces,” the National Security Cooperation Agency explained in a statement.

Why Denmark would want to improve its interoperability with the United States at a time when Washington is threatening the country’s sovereignty is unclear. However, the deal reveals a problem that many of America’s allies face: they don’t have the capabilities to replace the modern military systems they need, especially in the Poseidon P-8A’s case.

Defense Express noted in its breakdown of the arms sale that Europe currently has no alternative offering for a full maritime patrol and anti-submarine system like the Poseidon P-8A. The military news outlet noted that, given the situation, “it's quite reasonable to choose the same as other NATO allies like Germany, rather than chasing exotic options.”

However, the deal isn’t done yet, and Washington’s approval doesn’t mean Denmark will acquire the three Poseidon P-8As. Defense Express reported that the move may also serve as a diplomatic maneuver, noting that the European transition to regional defense products instead of US systems has been viewed badly by the Trump administration.

“Perhaps new contracts will help salvage relations,” the Defense Express explained. Whether the move to secure Poseidon P-8As from the United States will improve the diplomatic crisis between Washington and Copenhagen has yet to be seen, but the potential arms deal has revealed the bigger problem facing American allies reliant on US weapons.

Bannon’s playbook which he had been publicly saying for years is what is at play now.

    Flood the zone!

Give the media so much content they don't know what to focus on while the modern day robber barons rob the nation/world blind while the zone is being flooded.

It's been in play since 2016. The *gish gallop approach has worked well for them. In the first term, the media lapped it up and gave him millions of dollars in free coverage. Interviewers couldn't handle that approach, but the administration was good for ratings.

Anyone paying attention knew this stuff was coming in round two. Not surprised in the least.

It's a strategy which has worked like a charm for a good 10 years, now. At this point, the media is totally complicit. Bannon hasn't been coy about his methods. I've seen him do at least a couple of interviews where he lays it out point by point. He can because he fully knows that it unassailable from the point of view of news media outlets. They're addicted to money and demand a constant flow of news. Nothing stays in the public consciousness. Nothing sticks. Meanwhile, the real nitty gritty business of MAGA is conducted without much of any notice.

TVP global talks about Trumps threats to Greenland.

Quotes Russian ex world chess champion and now exile Gary Kasparov, that 'if you don't have a sphere of influence, you are a sphere of influence".

French concerns about its territories in South America like French Guyana, given what Trump calls the Donroe doctrine.

Firstly, 5 parties for 60,000 is farcical.

If I organized pints for fellow followers of this thread, a "Pints with pals from Boards", it would quickly turn into a debate on where to hold it, and soon it would be 5 different parties being held by the 30-ish people who attended, all for the same cause(quite probably in the same venue). So, no 5 different parties for 60k is not farcical.

Their backs are not against the wall. DJT is talking, 90% of what he says is untrue anyway.

When Obama took out Bin Laden, he sent in a covert ops SEAL team and they just did it. When DJT took Maduro it was also covert, but also involved him deploying a third of the US Navy to the area first. So far, all DJT has sent to Greenland is JD Vance in a windcheater, followed by an envoy. Big wow.

I genuinely hope I don't have to eat these words, but nothing major is going to happen in Greenland any time soon.

Meanwhile DJT will be distracted by Iran for the next few weeks.

Oh wow, it's almost like the leaders, e.g. DJT, Kirsty Noom etc didn't have all the facts? Thats almost unheard of!

They may have had them but facts are irrelevant to those mentioned. Did you not see the initial statement from the ice barbie.

    It was a complete fabrication.
