It,s over a year ago it was used, and I checked it was working by sending money to it. It's my wife's, she doesn't use it. She got a new phone about 2 months ago and has since changed the password. Never been used on line.

Did she wipe the old phone before she got rid of it?

Might be worth tapping the user icon at the top left and going to Security -> Devices just to check her old phone has been properly signed out

Might also be worth doing a bit of an app cleanup, remove anything you aren't using at the moment or aren't from well know services

Does she bring the card out with her? One possibility is the card was read by someone holding a contactless reader close to her bag with the card in it

Other than that, I don't know how they got the details

    Never been used on line.

    Until now.

As @the_amazing_raisin alluded to, even if you haven't used the card recently, you used it in the past. The merchant where you used that card may have suffered a historical data breach.

Not uncommon for hackers to sometimes warehouse stolen data and sell it in bulk later. A card that was safe for a couple of years might suddenly be sold to a fraudster who decides to use it today.

Brute force attack, digital skimming, merchant account updater scams etc are all ways an inactive cards can be hacked for fraud. Even happens to brand new cards - plenty of reports on reddit about this.

Ive suffered about half a dozen fraudulent transactions over the years with various banks. Doesnt concern me as I check my statements and if I dont recognise it, it gets reported and I get my money back. Cancel the card and start again.

Could be a BIN attack where they take the generic numbers at the start of the card and try all the combinations through brute force. What was the attempted charge out of curiosity? It’s usually for a small amount to test what combinations work.

I’ve never had it happen to myself personally but have read of it happening to others and I seem to recall Revolut not charging for replacement cards that have had fraudulent activity. Might be worth getting onto chat if it’s charging you a delivery fee.

Anyone sending money from credit union plus via instant iban having issues?

One or two are instant, but I sent one around ten yesterday and still haven't got it

Was in with the credit union and they had a look, changed the reference name etc and though they fixed it

I will go through any transactions but the frozen one occurred with a 22$ transaction.

Last used in sept 2024, I sent a euro to a contract, and before that I 2023 for a motorway toll.

At the end of the day you are never going to know and I wouldnt be concerned with it either.

If your card got cancelled by Revolut because of suspected fraud and they have charged you for a new one, I would be asking for that to be credited back to you.

I think you're right, but given the card use or non use I'm concerned of the security of using a revolut card.

My mother is with PTSB and her card got scammed too. In fairness they copped it when someone tried to purchase hundreds worth of alcohol and it raised a flag as an unusual purchase. They put a stop on her card and reissued her another.

Turns out the credit union failed too tell me you have to use the bill not shares account if you want it to be instant

I'm guessing it's not the cuAnywhere app your CU uses? I can, and regularly do, send instant payments from my share account to Revolut etc.

    2026-01-13 17_43_15-Credit Union Plus – Apps on Google Play.png

Thats the app, suspicously all credit union apps made by the same I.T company

I dont buy its set accounts as one transfer took seven hours, then another one took two days from my shares

Whats that famouse saying about dont put all your eggs in one basket, I bet they cant cope with all CU using the one system

Looking at the screenshots in the Play Store, it looks identical to the cuAnywhere app (each individual credit union that uses it has their own version of this app in the Play Store).

Edit: Ah, I see now that Credit Union Plus is the name of an individual credit union. Very catchy! 😄

I have three credit union apps, one is from Wellington IT and the other two Progress Systems, so not all credit unions use the same underlying app

Thats news too me, i wonder if the progress system function/look any better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,707 ✭✭✭Fann Linn

I'm with Dubco credit union and they have their own app through the progress system too and can honestly say I've never had any issues with regards to Revolut or any other transactions.

PTSB app however was a nightmare.

Yeah, that depends if the CU is affiliated with the Irish League of Credit Unions or with the Credit Union Development Association. AFAIK, all ILCU CUs use Wellington as their IT provider.

I wouldn't have thought the other two were "rebellious", both very long established. The three credit unions:

    1. Where I work now - Progress Systems. One of the largest CUs in the country with almost half a million potential members in the common bond directly, millions more indirectly
    2. Where I used to work - Wellington IT. I keep this one going because I'm in the car draw and to join the car draw in (1) would involve filling in a form. So I feed in a few quid a month, and I'm entitled to remain a member for life. They used to ask for written proof of address every 2 years, which almost led me to close my account (who still gets bills in the post any more?) but last time around they'd introduced Revolut-style ID verification through the app. No other CU I've been a member of has ever asked for anything except at joining.
    3. Where I live - a locality based one which has expanded and now takes in much of west Dublin. Progress Systems. I'm not a member but my wife is. We split our savings so if one of us snuffs it the survivor has access to 50% of savings as of right without having to do anything. Happy thoughts 😊

Yeah, a bunch of the then-biggest CUs in the country left the ILCU and set up the CUDA back in the Noughties in a spat over something or other. I guess they maybe felt they were financially carrying the smaller outfits.

Has anyone successfully added their revolut card to Google wallet. I've done it from the Google wallet app and from the wallet app but hasn't worked either time. I have other cards added to wallet without any problems. The card itself taps no problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,707 ✭✭✭Fann Linn

I've had it on my wallet app for years. There's never been an issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭aloaloalo

Thanks I've done all the troubleshooting I found online but none worked. I guess customer service is the next move.

Is the app up to date? What's the phone model and android version?

Revolut cards work fine on android and ios going back years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭aloaloalo

Yes the app is up to date. The phone is a Redmi 14 with android 15

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,359 ✭✭✭Notmything
