When the sun and blue sky was out it was lovely Comhra but under the frequent showers there was no doubt it was January! 😁

It's basically back to muck in Tralee after a lovely seasonal Christmas. I'm not a big fan of snow, but I love cold, calm, crisp weather and that's basically what we got for the most of two weeks. So I was very happy, my only complaint is that it wasn't cold enough.Temps just above freezing, around 3C is my ideal. You're comfy in your winter woolens, you're comfy drinking hot toddies by the fire, or hot choc, let's not forget dry January! And you're comfy in bed under your cosy winter duvet. And roads and footpaths are fairly safe and bone dry.

Next week it seems it's back to sweaty double digits and our lovely Atlantic wind and rain.😫 Please come back winter, just for a little while longer ⛄️

Snow only on the very tops of the Comeragh Mountains and Knockmealdowns. Bitter wind blowing that would cut the snot off you.

Love this post 🤗Between the tyres and the heating I was totally absorbed and have questions !

Do you leave the heating on all the time and just go by the thermostats to kick it on/ off even when we had the colder spell ?

I set a timer and it's a pain tbh so am thinking about using the thermostats .

I remember you all talking about snow tyres last year . It's a shame that we haven't had the weather yet for them . But yes the less spent on heating is a definite positive this year .

This post was way more interesting than the weather in Dublin at the minute ...wet muck .

Sorry to be dragging thread off piste .

I went to see Siapan in Navan cinema. Went to a cosy warm pub afterwards and then came out to -3 and a freezing fog. The roads were like glass (my turn to be designated driver ). Met office had their warnings out well in advance, met eireann only put their's out after 1am (nowcast). Take care anyone travelling , it's treacherous.

we use hive with 2 zones plus water . Thermostats turn on heat in early evening and in morning when temperatures are below 18 . And upstairs during night when < 18.

Freezing rain reported at the Mullingar met.ie weather station. Proper freeezing rain is rare enough in Ireland. I assume the roads and paths are treaturous around mullingar

No frost here in East Clare, car temp showing 1.5°C but the roads are lethal with ice.

does your boiler only come on when those criteria are met?

Mine would have to stay on and only allow water flow to the rads based on the thermostat, seems very inefficient for me to leave it on the whole time !

Decent frost out this morning, currently -2.3C. Fax chart for tomorrow is horrendous, day for indoors and stove lit.

Hard frost here in NCD this morning, nice to be able to look out at it on Saturday morning rather than having to go out in it!

Despite no air frost here in Greystones, hard/very visible ground frost, with all surfaces frosty white/icy, even the beach down to high water line!

Entire place is an ice rink. Rain moved in when it was -4c overnight. Showers on and off since. Sleet at the moment. There’s ice everywhere.

Agree. No big 1035 high over Iberia / west Med eating up the heart of winter. After a mild blip tomorrow and Monday it looks to me that the Pm air is back.
