When the full on war between Russia & Europe finally starts, Russia will be allowed to make not only the 1st strike, but most likely the 1st 10-20 strikes before Europe/NATO can even release their strongly worded statement, never mind a military reaction.

Ah yes the perfect response to having their ship seized by the US. Russian reprobates must be seen as stronk in their backyard.

Dugin was calling for some kind of response too after their embarrassment.

We've been reading about infrastructure and facilities collapse in Russia for a couple of years now. Been reading about imminent collapse of their economy for just as long. Hasn't made a blind bit of difference. I believe it and throw a party when I see it actually have some consequences. It's the hope that kills you.

We've already have had 100s of strikes. They are urgently searching the dictionary for more strong words. They will have a meeting about it sometime in the Spring.

It looks like history is starting up again.

Russia is claiming* the two Russian citiznes from the tanker were released and won't be prosecuted. The Ukrainian and Georgian ones will supposedly -

Since neither the Finns, nor Swedes have nuclear weapons, I stand by my original suggestion. The US is less likely to take on a tripwire force comprised of personnel from nuclear armed states. It's a checkmate move.

I'm sure the Swedes and Finns are more proficient at arctic warfare, but the point of the exercise would be to prevent any conflict in the first place.

Back in 2022, just days after the Orcs invaded Ukraine, I formed the opinion that nuclear proliferation was a must have for world peace as it's proved to be the one and only deterrent that works. Never did it occur to me that this would apply to the EU having to deter the US. I admit to having completely missed seeing that one coming.

Well the leader of NATO is IMO now at best indifferent to anything Russia does in Europe since election of Trump (and becoming more hostile by the day to the other NATO members).

Salami slicing is a very, very effective tactic against a disunited group where the individual members are all afraid to respond themselves, and Putin/Russia has been playing that game for years.

This looks like yet another escalation to me (using a Russian IRBM that is supposed to carry nuclear warheads on a target so close to Poland).

I wonder did they notify anyone, and if so who (probably just the US as I imagine it could look like it is a nuclear missile launch).

One of the stupidest public policy decisions by Ireland is basing a significant portion of the electricity supply on very expensive and vulnerable interconnectors, instead of spending the money on nuclear reactors, which would deliver self sufficiency and would be cheaper in the long run.

The Russians sent a recruited African mercenary into battle with a TM-62 anti-tank mine strapped to his chest.

    JFC!!!

    That is horrific!

Yes and we could get more independent much faster if the Russian funded nimbys didn't object to every wind farm.

    But that's a topic for a different thread 🙂

No ones going to be sending or even threatening nukes over this so its not even an argument. What do you suggest, threaten to nuke washington if the US kill French or British soldiers? Thats just chest thumping nonsense.

Theres ways to secure Greenland and make life hell for any group that happens to land but it sure as hell isn't going toe to toe and talking shìte about nukes. Leave that to Putin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,872 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

No one would make any such threat. The signalling is done by the nationalities of the troops. Of course no one is going to be firing nukes, just as the US would never take on French and British troops.

As for your accusation of chest thumping:

Its the Finns and Swedes you want up there. They live for that stuff.

The yanks will fight whoever they're told to fight. They little more than robots. They think nothing on lighting up allies in a blue on blue incident. What makes you think this would be any different. Maybe they're stupid enough to see red white and blue patches and think they're Americans, but I wouldn't rely on it.

My point about the Finns and the Swedes that you claim was chest thumping, was in fact the reality, that they're the best in the world. They regularly school NATO troops from all the big players in Artic war games, because they've lived it their entire lives.

I think it's going off topic of this thread a bit but if Trump wants to annex a friendly nations land and continues with the nonsense he is spouting on this topic the Irish government being a non NATO member should threaten that out of solidarity and belief in the rules of international law to respond to such action by Trump by issuing a compulsory purchase order at agricultural land prices on the 400acres of golf resort the criminal Trump occupies in county Clare. Once he sees that attacking Greenland could cost him some money he is more likely to reconsider the cost benefit ratio of taking ownership of land that he has no right to.

To keep this post more on topic here is a report on another failed assault by putin's terrorists:

Just had a look at the weather. Temperatures very low in eastern Ukraine. It seems quiet. Very cold I’d say. The men fighting there are real heroes. I’m embarrassed how slow Europe is at helping them. There were 7 coalitions against Napoleon in a time of slow communication. Don’t get me going

Ukraine secures vital territory north of Kupiansk while striking pockets of Russian resistance in the town itself.

⚡️Ramzan Kadyrov is in a critical condition due to kidney failure, and the Kremlin is urgently looking for a replacement for the head of Chechnya, — GUR

He is in a private clinic in Chechnya — representatives of his tribe, including from other states, have already arrived there.

Against the backdrop of Ramzan Kadyrov's critical condition, the process of agreeing on a new regional leader has intensified.

Among the favorites, convenient for the Kremlin, are named Magomed Daudov, Apti Alaudinov, and Ramzan's eldest son, Akhmat Kadyrov.

Good. He accused his personal physician of poisoning him and reportedly had him buried alive. Too stupid to figure out Putrid is far more likely to have poisoned him.

I'd love if the Ukrainians had a few long range drones that could pay that gathering a visit

Trump take Greenland and lose Doonbeg! Europe must prepare for a war on two fronts Russia and the USA. Talk of spending billions on defence next year will be too slow. Maybe the only option for the EU is to look to China for an alliance or defense pact. Trump should be regarded as a Russian asset intent on destroying NATO and splitting up the EU. Taking a few ancient oil tankers is just a smoke screen to the folks at home.

Will Denmark invite Trump to Nuuk Greenland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,882 ✭✭✭threeball

Europe don't need China for a defence pact. We already have the 2nd largest military in the world. And in fairness to the countries providing it, its trained to an extremely high level.

Logistics and satellite intelligence are our weak points. I posted on the other thread that the US have been told if they move on Greenland, their european bases are gone. We won't be moving troops across the Atlantic so logistics is less important to us.

Plus it would be deeply unpopular. Would all US troops make themselves available. Will people living in America with family in Europe just sit by and watch. They could be facing an army in Europe and an insurgency, plus an insurgency at home.

US troops will do as they are ordered and as we have seen by Trumps re-election I wouldn't be counting on any effective support from those living in the US some of my own relations living there are cheering Trumps threats. Also NATO is very much based on US power and resources, take that out of the picture and Europe's ability to coordinate and strike effectively would be weak and uncoordinated. Europe needs Ukraine to win and form a pact with a more militarily ready power soon.
