I agree with many of your points. Just to add my 2 cents.

Kamala Harris should have basically started her campaign on the day she was sworn in as VP. Instead she did very little during her term. When Biden named her the "border czar" to deal with the crisis of immigrants crossing the border from Mexico, it took her not days or weeks, but months for her to actually visit the border.

Then after originally saying he'd be a one term president, Biden said he was going to run again. A decision, pretty much only himself and Jill Biden were happy with. As a result, Kamala Harris put her campaign not so much on hold but didn't set it running. Then after that disastrous debate Biden says he wont be running again. (Ah Fecks sake Joe!). Now Kamala Harris has to start running and hit the ground running. In a campaign that was always going to be hard, she's now on the backfoot.

There were criticisms of her having a weird laugh or that she laughs all the time. It made me realise, I have never seen DJT laughing. He does jeering, and mock laughs, but never a happy/relaxed, enjoying the moment kind of laugh.

Knowing this thread I'm sure I'd get a compednium of examples of him laughing from his supporters on here and I found this clip of Chris O'Dowd on the James Cordon show making a similar point:

Jesse 'The Body' Ventura speaks out, and he's not happy. Remember besides the wrestling career and movies with Schwarzenegger ("I ain't got time to bleed!"), he was governor of Minnesota.

Former Governor of Minnesota and Wrestler/Actor Jesse Ventura didn't hold back here. Had a bit of crazy/promo feel from his wrestling days but said exactly how it is, wouldn't even call the orange turd by name

I wonder how much C4 could be hidden inside one of those medals? Perhaps rigged with a microphone trigger configured to detonate at the sound of JD Vance's voice?

MM. you are WRONG. Yes , there is something VERY NEW here ie ICE . Was it not recently set up - circa 10 years ago. And what is also new about ICE is that The rules ‘governing it/ it’s mandate’ are developing, are being broadened, are increasing day by day and a lot of these are based on what is happening in the ‘field’ and a new ‘regulation ‘ is made to ‘cover’ it legally

The shooting of the Minneapolis woman the other day is a case in point eg

She tried to knock down a federal agent

She rolled over a federal agent who ended up in hospital

She refused to stop when asked

She refused to get out of the car

    She interfered with traffic

    Shooter acted in self defence

    Shooter acted to protect others

    Etc, etc, etc, etc.

So ‘clarifications ‘ , etc , ‘will be made to justify an ICE agent behaviour re any of the above

I think they're more like the SA than the gestapo. They're thugs who go out and kick in heads.

Law enforcement agencies lying about officer involved shootings is definitely not new.

Oh my lord. Are you even aware that's sped up footage? I don't know if it's funnier whether you do or don't.

There is only one country that wants to annex Greenland, I’m sure you know that though.

It doesn't reflect well on Machado's judgement that she would offer to hand over her Nobel peace prize to Trump. Big picture here - he allowed the genocide in Gaza to happen and has discredited the ICC. Zero right to any peace prize.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

The records of who won the award still won’t list his name either.

It’s like someone handing me a black belt in Jiu Jitsu, I can have it but I don’t have the skills to claim it. Same applies here.

I still don't agree with it. It cheapens the prize and it emboldens a narcissist. It also comes across as desperation to seize power in her country. If she is so easily relieved of her prize, what else would she concede to on behalf of her country. Sometimes you have to stand up to Trump and show a bit of grit. He may need her to truly get stability in Venezuela so she has some leverage now. She needs to get clever now. She doesn't want to simply be another US puppet in Central/South America - that always ends up in disaster.

The farcical FIFA peace award is enough for the clown. He deserves nothing but contempt for the way he treated the innocent civilians in Gaza (ongoing), the UN, the ICC etc etc.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

It’s a clear bribe, she wants to be in power badly, she is hoping that this will spark some action from America.

I looked at a number of the videos including the BBC version and to me the car did NOT hit the shooter. What I SAW was the following :-

    (1) before she drove forward she first reversed a few feet - probably because there were two individuals dressed in ICE type gear walking in front of her car and walking from right to left and in order to avoid hitting them she reversed a little with the intention of moving forward without hitting them

. (2) the BBC clip clearly shows that the shooter is clear of the car as it moves forward. The contact between the shooter and the car was made by the shooter himself when he PUT OUT HIS HAND to touch the car. If he did not do that the car would not have touched him . He was a foot + clear of the car when it was passing him by

    (3) his action of putting out his hand was Probably an involuntary reaction. If one sees something passing close by one’s normal reaction is to put out your hand to ‘protect ‘ yourself in case that something came in contact with you.

What I find perplexing that while all of the above is going on he had the gun ready and cocked if necessary in his right hand and used it within milliseconds of putting out his left hand to touch the car

I am open to correction but the above is my take on the matter

    100%

It's a clever move by a new president who needs a lot of US support and good will, and she can achieve that by simply giving the man child a toy that he wants so bigly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,324 ✭✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

Pretty much everyone in the world knows that the FIFA Peace Prize is a farce but it made the big man happy getting it. And its gold!

Machado knows what shes doing by offering it. Gets him onside.

No. You made a claim and have done nothing whatsoever to back it up beyond telling me to study the entire field of social sciences.

I've read a biography and other books about Trump. Trauma was not mentioned once.

You regularly trot out this line to defend these people and have never bothered to put in any effort to show why.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

I cannot see any federal charges being brought. Instead they will smear the innocent victim with the outcome of their investigation.

Hopefully there's enough video evidence for the state to make a case from.

"And the positive from this is that most people will think twice about going anywhere near ICE. So they get to do more stuff without being held to account."

Not sure. I think white Americans may be okay with shootings, but when it's one of their own, I think this is different. I guess we will see

There are strong links between malignant narcissistism and childhood trauma, but none of that, if true, excuses the behaviour.

Just because trump didn't get his daddies love and attention doesn't mean his behaviour throughout his life is excused. He alone is 100% responsible for all the horrible nasty deplorable things he's done and continues to do.

I would argue his protected social status is much more responsible for his actions regarding the ignoring the rule of law, the sexual assaults and the creation of the maga cult

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,325 ✭✭✭testtech05

But she isn't the new president, and from what Trump has said so far regardless of if she should be, she wont be any time soon either. I don't think "gifting" him the prize will increase her chances either….

I see that but when you remove a violent dictator, the next leader you need is one with the utmost integrity and high morals. This move puts that's integrity into question.

For example, if it was Higgins, Robinson, McAleese - do you think they would offer a Nobel peace prize to someone like Trump to gain power? No chance.

The people of Venezuela were amazingly proud to have one of their citizens getting a Novel peace prize. Imagine how they would feel seeing it given away to Trump. It sends the wrong message.

Is she seen now as partly responsible for the US invasion?

  • Subscribers, Paid Member Posts: 44,928 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

I give Rodriguez less than two months before she's gone and machado has a coalition government in place.

This is what the us have been doing in Latina American for decades.

I'd love to see how much wealth trump family companies are reeling in since last year, I hear they're making drones now

Posters here seem to be under some illusion that the Venezuelan people are not happy with the removal of Maduro???

    They are delighted!!

Not so much. When the US intervene in the politics of Latin America, it usually results in a military dictatorship or some form of authoritarian right wing government. It generally results in instability, reduced civil liberties and falling standards of living.
