I never once said the states should be running it but Denmark should be no where near it either.

look at the great healthcare system the US would bring to Greenland. Plus ice falling around on the ice.

What a silly comment. You do know that with the magic of the Internet you can watch news and opinions from almost every country in the world? I even saw a speech by the president of France earlier.

I doubt that lad has ever been brave enough to venture south of the border. A prisoner in his own mind.

And that's entirely irrelevant in a thread where we are discussing that the US are threatening to invade Greenland if they can't buy it... It's a pretty obvious effort to divert from the issue.

He doesn't have to cancel the elections, he just has to interfere with them so that he guarantees he comes away with a majority in both houses. I'm sure his buddy Putin has been giving him a few tips on how to do this

    Ban billionaires

Same reason Israel should **** off out of Palestine? Oh wait, you said that was different… 🤔

The people of Greenland also get to decide when and what votes they want to carry out, the US doesn't get to impose a vote on them.

A vote gets held in Nothern Ireland when there is a reasonable chance of the vote passing, per the GFA. The polls do not support holding a vote (I hope they do one day).

    https://www.euronews.com/2026/01/08/danish-soldiers-would-shoot-back-if-invaded-government-confirms

"Soldiers must engage without awaiting orders if anyone were to invade Danish territory, including US troops attempting to seize Greenland, according to a 1952 military directive that Denmark's Defence Ministry has confirmed remains in force.

The standing order requires Danish military personnel to "immediately take up the fight" against any attack on Danish territory without waiting for commands, even if commanders are unaware of a declaration of war, the Defence Command and Ministry told Danish newspaper Berlingske.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said this week that a military attempt at taking Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, would mark the end of NATO."

It's the sort of thing a Kasprov would be directed to do. Sable ratting to destabilise NATO. It really is going to take a quarter of a century for the US to restore diplomatic relations with former allies after Trump.

Norway is IIRC another one of those countries where soldiers have standing orders to shoot first if there's an invasion.

I have heard (a) that if US decides to take Greenland militarily there is noone who would or could put up a fight.

But I have also heard that US is not equipped to fight in that environment and that Denmark (or perhaps the Scandinavians ?)is-making military conquest much more difficult.

So I am unclear how successful an act of war against Greenland would be (or who would recognize NovoAmerica in the Arctic)

As for a peaceful acquisition am reading that there may be a minority in Greenland interested in an arrangement of some sort,so it may not be an outright rejection of that kind of an overture.

I imagine Denmark would have to go along if Greenland wanted something like that.

Of course it goes without saying that this whole episode is a shameful reflection on America but if Greenland was to acquiesce without being under duress then one could only wish them good luck.

With the caveat that this is just silly speculating like the “PIRA vs Taliban” TV show, it wouldn’t be too hard unless the Nordic countries put a lot of forces in place ahead of time.

11th Airborne Division (The Arctic Angels) is based in Alaska. They have all the usual array of specialized arctic kit that one might expect of a military force operating in such a place and have been taking advantage of the recent accessions to do exercises in northern Scandinavia.

    https://www.stripes.com/branches/army/2025-02-28/army-arctic-exercise-finland-16982219.html#:~:text=Soldiers%20with%20the%20Alaska%2Dbased,its%20influence%20in%20higher%20latitudes.

If they really need help, Colorado (4th ID) and upstate New York (10th Mountain) also have pretty miserably cold winters, and for cold-weather armored units, 34th ID (Minnesota/Idaho/Montana/Dakotas) would also provide folks who know how to not die in severe cold, though 11th alone ought to be able to do the job if the Air Force and Navy can stop reinforcements.

But that’s just a reflection of size and military spending. Again, there is no intent that this post is anything other than an amusing diversion.

It doesn`t seem the state will even be allowed to collect evidence to take make a case.

After initially agreeing to a joint investigation with Minnesota`s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) the FBI is now denying the state access to materials and evidence. The BCA`s superintendent issued a statement that without the ability to access all the necessary case material and evidence the BCA have to "reluctantly withdraw" from the investigation.

Dog killer Noem got in on the act as well telling the BCA they had no jurisdiction to carry out an investigation.

For a country that once boasted of a free and impartial justice system - not that it ever really was - we now have in it`s place cover-ups before the body of a murder victim is even cold.

Ex Danish Queen Margarethe II shows support for Greenland.

    Screenshot_20260109-015147_Quora.jpg

Margrethe wore the Naasut Tiara (Naasut is the Greenlandic word for ‘flowers’) which was given to her in 2012 by the people of Greenland to mark the 40th anniversary of her reign. It’s proved to be a popular pick for the queen in the past – Margrethe is known for her artistic flair and creativity and this unusual taira ticks all those boxes.

We need to normalise calling them Secret Police.

They operate without identification and without operational limits. They operate above and beyond any local law enforcement and without any accountability to elected officials.

They are a secret police force of the federal state.

The Germans even have a word for it.

    Ge(heime)Sta(ats)Po(lizei)

    Gestapo.

All those statements apply, and always have applied (secret police excepted), to all federal law enforcement agencies, from the FBI to the US Treasury. There’s nothing new here.

Unfortunately when it came to voters in America that simply wasn't true. Trump had a pretty dominant win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,211 ✭✭✭Ardillaun

Even if resistance was on a small scale, Denmark has already said it will be offered. One reason will be so that nobody can tell lies about the reality of the invasion afterwards.

I know of no recent poll of Greenlanders expressing support for American rule. The consensus there seems to be for a gradual move to full independence from Denmark which is completely different. Any financial offer to Greenlanders would require consent from Congress and that looks highly unlikely at the moment given the harsh bipartisan response in the Senate. It would also be insulting, of course. Would you sell your country for money? Would Americans?

No, neither the FBI nor ATF may operate routinely without identification in the normal course of their duties, nor routinely use self-generated warrants.

Thats not to say they aren't being corrupted either, but the whole modus operandi of ICE is facing a number of specific court challenges.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,887 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Any move for further independence is over for the foreseeable.

In fact, the best thing Greenland could do, is to rejoin Denmark proper, and end its own autonomous status until a comprehensive solution to all this is reached by all parties.

If Greenland were to become a region of Denmark proper, in the same way that Le Réunion and Guiana are not overseas territories of France, but simply France itself, no different to Brittany or Provence, then it would slam the door on the constitutional and geopolitical greyness that characterises Greenland's status and which the Trump regime is seeking to exploit.

Greenland needs to be Denmark, and an EU member region, and it needs to be so immediately.

They can consider their long term future at their leisure then, depending on how all this manifests, but not under the intolerable stress their tiny government and assembly are experiencing now.

Before digging into chapter and verse, I want to be sure we have a common definition of “identification”. Are you referring to personally identifiable information (badge numbers, name tags etc) or more general “I am law enforcement” things like jackets or armor patches?

The ‘world order’ currently being rapidly dismantled by Trump and his masters came into being after WW1 and WW2 caused previously unimagined atrocities and loss of life.
It is far from a perfect system with the ‘West’ lording it over the rest of the world and holding veto powers which disadvantages the already disadvantaged but slowly slowly things are changing into a more cooperative way of co existing.
Co operation and coexistence does not suit the greedy and the power hungry.

How to create a new world order and redivide the spoils?
Incite a third world war -

How to incite a third world war?
Nobble independent media, create economic uncertainty, stir up hate and division, increase uncertainty and lie lie lie.

It seems comment is currently concentrating on the puppet while pretending the puppet masters don’t exist.

Some sane voices in Minnesota yesterday urged people with every reason to be angry, not to give the current regime ‘what it wanted’ - unrest.
One can only hope there are more leaders across theUSA and the world not willing to give “them” what they are working so hard to achieve.

well if you are asking me that question then you must not be accessing a spread of news reports.
I say again I am not taking a position yet on the incident. I was just interested that Rte (unlike bbc) did not show the angle of the officer getting hit and did not give the other info eg that the officer had been seriously injured by a truck hitting him and dragging him resulting in 30 stitches in his leg. Also that the driver apparently was attempting to interfere with the operation.
just wondering why the bbc did and Rte didn’t.
It is absolutely horrendous that she has lost her life, with little kids at home etc, but my comment was why Rte withheld information.
Here’s the nearest I can see to the video was on bbc news

Who would have thought it would be a grey zone but it certainly is now. Hard to believe what’s happening in the world.
