I seen nearly every Seahawks game and never seen Carroll losing it on the sidelines. He went 9-8 his last two seasons there. I don't think that can be described as losing it either.

So in what way was he losing it?

He means that he lost what made him successful in Seattle originally- a HOF defense regressed to one of the worst in the league and offense underperformed. Compare the last few years defense of Seahawks under Carroll to what McDonald did in his first year there

    image.png

I maintain Carroll came to Las Vegas to win straight away, he wanted to contend and everything points toward that despite what you have said in this thread. The absolute malfunction of the organisation where Carroll was hired before the GM Syptek where it clear now they were never on same page is also true.

A long read but a good insight into the sh*tshow of a season they had, wouldn't inspire you with confidence on TB's ownership input either

Brady's primary focus is on his colour commentary which is worth $350 million. Investing in an NFL franchise is a smart move as you asset keeps increasing in value.

From everything I've seen of Brady throughout his career I'd have the opinion that he's really smart and ruthless.

Brady cares about Michigan, he was involved in getting Jim Harbaugh there.

I'm sure at some stage he will show an interest in helping out the Raiders but it might be a case where he'll be looking for a bigger share in the franchise and Davis has shown that he's willing to sell so that may happen.

You go to numbers to try and prove a point about Carroll. Fact of the matter is he left Seattle after two winning seasons. The numbers don't matter if you are having winning seasons.

You are actually making him out to be even better because he found ways to win with a weaker roster.

Well done on your obviously enthusiastic following of Seattle's season. I stated in my post that I had spoken to Seahawks fans who had given their opinion to me. I also have stated that I didnt have a problem with Carroll and that the Raiders as an organisation were dysfunctional. But he made mistakes this season, and I feel the Raiders have done the right thing moving on from him. Your posts seem to indicate that you dont blame Carroll at all for our record this year, that its the organisation, not the Coach that is at fault. You are entitled to your opinion but I differ slightly in that I feel that its a combination of a number of factors that have us at the number 1 pick in the draft. And I do feel that Carroll is not blame free for our current situation.

I never said that Carroll should be lauded for this season. He should get credit for a good draft though.

The first season in a bad spot is about identifying strengths and weaknesses and being in a position to know what needs to be done in the next off-season.

He should have been given another year.

Is there any point even trying to have a discussion with someone like eagle eye, moves goalposts at every avenue in a discussion, has done it about 3 times in the last day in this thread. I can't see anyone fully blaming Carroll for Raiders current situatuon, it is the organisation's fault but it was definitely the right decision to move on for him apart from eagle eye who thinks he came in at 74 to do a rebuild rather be a big name coach to compete in a division with Reid, Harbaugh and Payton and win straight away. No one is saying the decision to move on from him is wrong after what occurred there in the last year and Carroll is still rightfully a HOF coach but he failed badly at what he set out to do in LV.

Moving on, Brian Flores is evens at most sportsbook to be the next HC followed by Jesse Minter, Stefanski and Klint Kubiak. Can't see them hiring Minter as first time HC especially when you picking a QB with the no1 pick unless he has some strong experienced OC to come in with him. Kubiak is interesting with his background and outside zone running scheme to part with Jeanty and has been excellent at scheming Smith Nijba open- still risky as first time HC imo, would probably go with Stefanski but can see him going to the Falcons easy enough too depending on where John Harbaugh lands.

Again, Eagleye you are entitled to your opinion. I am entitled to mine. I think my Franchise was right to pull the trigger on him

The ESPN article highlights what an absolute shambles things were for the Raiders this year and Carroll played a big part in it especially with respect to the offensive line. Who ever heard of the O Line meeting by themselves to try to figure things out! He had a weird set against Powers Johnston for example, preferring Cappa even though he was awful, and in general only started playing the rookies very late and then they looked pretty good. He can't have any complaints, he is (or was) a great coach but this season, and in particular the Brennan fiasco when he fired others was just unforgivable.

A shame to see his legacy somewhat tarnished but there was zero reason to let him remain and tarnish it further.

So you go back to square one again and my prediction is you fail again. And with the way Carroll was treated you won't get another great coach to go near the Raiders.

Expect this to go on for years. I experienced it as a Patriots fan before Kraft bought the team. Years of being a laughing stock. We had three owners in ten years and none of them were any good and the last one wanted to move the team to St. Louis.

The Raiders are the laughing stock of the league now and I can't see that changing anytime soon.

Carroll would definitely have improved things next year, both on and off the field.

A once great franchise has been reduced to rubble.

Thanks for your prediction. I didnt ask for it but you seem to keep wanting to push the point over and over. So yes, I get it. We're a terrible Franchise for sacking the great Pete Carroll. Guess we have to live with the consequences of that decision. I'm not sure how I'm going to sleep, given that the great Pete Carroll was going to save us. Whatever will we do??? I really do appreciate when Patriots fans remind us of how terrible we are. Was this the same team that walked into Foxboro week 1 and came away with a victory??? Point of correction, though. We're not just the laughing stock of the League now. We've been that way for years. Again, thanks for the really helpful and encouraging observations.

I agree it's been that way for a while now. Sacking Pete Carroll after one season is just a continuation of that.

Hiring Joss McDaniels as a head coach was another ridiculous decision. He's a great offensive coordinator but he'll never be a successful head coach. He proved that in Denver.

You beat us in week 1 and it didn't surprise me. I expected us to be one of the worst teams in the league again this season as Vrabel found his feet there. Unlike the Raiders, the Patriots were going to give Vrabel the time to get things right.

What's happened is amazing and for me the biggest thing is Vrabel bringing back McDaniels. Vrabel is a great defensive mind but he needed a great offensive mind and he went out and got that.

This isn't a Patriots fan talking, this is a football fan. Yes I support New England but that doesn't come into it when I'm looking at the rest of the league.

And the reason I'm saying all this is because I'd love to see the Raiders as a successful team. John Madden is right at the top of my favourite football people in the history of the game and he was a Raider.

I would definitely agree that the wrong place wrong time holds true. Geno Smith and Sam Darnold have shown that with a good setup around them , they can be Top 10 QBs - just not the Jets or Raiders :).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 903 ✭✭✭Prefab Sprouter

Darnold is definitely someone who, in the right regime and setup, is capable of playing to a really high standard.

I watched the Peach Bowl match up between Oregon and Indiana and while Dante Moore has potential I think Fernando Mendoza is more NFL ready and should be the pick if we go QB in the draft - I wouldn't be shocked if Dante Moore stays another year with Oregon and goes again for a National Championship - he's only 20 and needs gametime to develop.

Even with that I would hope that we can let whoever it is sit and learn and focus free agency and remaining draft on getting better O-line performance and some help on secondary. Watching Justin Herbert get killed behind that makeshift Charger line shows just how hard it is to get anything done offensively when you are running for your life.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 574 ✭✭✭Mr_A

Yeah watched a chunk of that game too and Mendoza looked the part bigtime

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 903 ✭✭✭Prefab Sprouter

As you say Kev, it wont matter who is taking snaps if the O-line is not seriously upgraded during the off-season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 788 ✭✭✭Kev8360

Well Dante Moore is staying in Oregon this year so its Mendoza or trading down I reckon. Unlikely we will trade down unless we get a crazy offer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,997 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Mendoza is extremely intelligent. He's a very hard worker as in watching tape and he knows about every defender he's facing. He has all the throws as well. I think he'll be a top 5 QB in a couple of years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 788 ✭✭✭Kev8360

Well after last nights showing in the CFP final I think Mendoza has cemented the number 1 pick in the draft - his run for the TD in the 4th quarter was clutch to seal the win for Indiana

I saw it and crucially so did the Raiders Front Office as Spytek and Mark Davis were both in attendance.

It really does appear that the Raiders are doing proper due diligence in their coaching search. Plenty of people have been interviewed and they have satisfied the Rooney rule as well. The media seem to have Klint Kubiak as the front runner along with the Broncos Davis Webb and Mike McDaniel. They can interview but not hire Kubiak this week and everyone else is free to hire , so I imagine the longer it goes on, the more likely it is that Kubiak gets the offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,997 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Davis Webb coached an offense that wasn't in the top ten in any category and he only has one year in that job.

Klint Kubiak did okay with a gifted offense in Seattle and again has only one years experience.

    Both unproven offensive coordinators.

Mike McDaniel failed miserably in Miami. If that's the best you can get, well it's no surprise to me after how Carroll was treated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 788 ✭✭✭Kev8360

I don't believe how Pete Carroll was treated has anything to do with our coaching search - its a reflection on the roster strength and in general how poorly we have drafted in recent times and given the other teams who were looking for a head coach this offseason the raiders are definitely down in the least appealing squad depths even if you factor in the number1 pick in the draft coming in.

Outside of John Harbaugh who would have wanted to fully control whatever situation he went into (something he would not have gotten in Vegas with John Spytek there - fair play to the Giants for locking him in so quickly) the majority of new hires are not exactly guaranteed hits (Stefanski/Saleh were underwhelming Head coaches and I don't know 1 Pittsburgh fan who is rubbing their hands in glee at Mike McCarthy being named HC so that only leaves unproven coordinators to interview.

I am fully aware of the clown show we can be as a franchise but to say coaches wont interview with the Raiders because of how we treated a previous HC I don't think holds water.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 903 ✭✭✭Prefab Sprouter

Klint Kubiak is due to have a second interview this weekend. Obviously we cant hire him until after the Superbowl and the longer this goes on, the more it would appear that Kubiak is first choice. MacDaniel and Daboll have apparently signed on as Co-ordinators with their teams, so unless an offer is made to Davis Webb, Kubiak will be offered the job. The likelihood of another candidate coming out of the woodwork is extremely low. But we've had offers rejected in the past and so nothing is a shoo-in at this stage.

So Klint Kubiak who did a very average job as OC with the Vikings a couple of years ago, with the Saints in '24 and then did well with a stacked roster in Seattle this season

We'll see how it works out. He could be great or awful, nobody really knows. There's certainly no guarantees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 903 ✭✭✭Prefab Sprouter

I'd say that about any hire to be honest, Eagleye. There's no guarantees appointing any Head Coach. We'll see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 788 ✭✭✭Kev8360

very true - you can only go so far without the players on the field - if we can build the squad with a consistent strategy over the next 3 to 4 years he has a chance to be successful. Its still all speculation at this point though he may decide to stay in Seattle depending on how the Superbowl goes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 903 ✭✭✭Prefab Sprouter

Apparently John Schneider of the Seahawks commented that Kubiak is going to the Raiders"

While nobody involved with either team had discussed the move, that changed during Monday's Super Bowl media day festivities. Schneider appeared on NFL Network's The Insiders, where the Seahawks general manager confirmed that Kubiak will be heading to Las Vegas.

"Obviously, we see Klint's going to the Raiders now,"

Maybe we are going to land our primary coaching target.

Kubiak hasn't been at the same club for more than a season since 2021.
