Anybody hooked up a Fogstar 16.1kwh battery to their Solis Inverter? Interested to see experiences for what looks like a great battery.

    For storm Bram ,
anyone using the “Battery reserve switch “ “ reserve SOC”.

Just set mine to on and reserved SOC to 90 for any outages after 3 pm today .

There was an error displaying this embed.

I put an automation together for this last week. In the event winds of over 75km are forecast in the following 12 hrs, reserve SOC of 75% is enabled. Wind speeds over 90km 100% is enabled. Let's see does it work as required.

    How you do that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 303 ✭✭ptogher14

Via home assistant. There is some info back through this thread on using it with a Solis inverter or there is plenty of info over in the home automation category.

Yes , Its easy , Use the cables that came with the Inverter , Connect the Negative side first after powering everything down. Good video on it here from a Boards Poster , Also just use PYLON for Battery Type on Inverter and the Battery itself.

Thanks. My installer came out within 24 hours and did it for free for us, after I rang them about it. Works great. Thanks info.

That Installer wont last too long in business when he is installing equipment that you bought for free that he should have sold and charged you for during initial install..

I didn't explain myself well. It was meant to be part of the main install, they resolved it.

Just noticed they are finally updating their UI, a button appeared called "Try New" and I have to say i like it, much more modern and similar to other UI systems ive seen.

Thanks. It looks really nice and gives more graphical info upfront instead of hunting for it. Good progress.

I wasn't notified of this by the app but I did find it as a switch under my profile. Like it so far...

    I’ve a solis S5 with 15KW of batteries .
Can the solis handle exporting to the grid and also charging of the batteries when solar is generating excess of 5kw.

I will be generating more than 5kw during the summer months and want to avoid clipping . I was hoping that the battery could take some of the excess during the peak solar times to avoid clipping .
would anyone know if it does this .
    thank you

Look at the label on the inverter. You should see a 5000W and 3000W printed on it.

Take a look at the video below. Skip to 16:30 and that will answer your question.

can anyone tell me if it is possible to set AI mode for dynamic tariff settings on a solis S5.
I’ve tried solis cloud and also the app but can’t seem to find it anywhere .

Anyone had this issue. I've a solis inverter with ~10kwh of Dyness batteries.

Until recently I always use battery first then grid. However now I seem to always pull ~0.1kw from the grid, and only over that will the battery be used.

The app has recently updated and a number of setting seem different. I'm assuming it's an app setting, but I can't for the like of me see which one.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Seems they have changed the firmware and now it ALWAYS pulls 40-50W constantly from the grid no matter what.
1.2 Kw a day that used to come from the batteries.

Look for the battery setting to "Battery Saving" to be "Disable".
If that is enabled, the toll goes up to 100W-110W, around 2.5Kw a day from the grid.

Solis, what is this nonsense? Why now?

Nothing to do with the Dyness. I can understand a bit of pulling AC here and there but not this constant draw for nothing.

I had this issue, was using an extra 1.2kwh per day.
I submitted a ticket on the Support : Service Center asking about it.
They did an update on the inverter a couple of hours later, it sorted it out.

    Thanks, will try that.

I had serious problem last weekend, inverter went half bricked after I sent an API command through solis cloud to update charging timings… and got alarm blinking with operation blinking too, no LED no control nothing.

Second time it happened, I had to patiently wait all weekend until Monday, at least they sorted with firmware update.
Now I have this other issue that didn't happen before. Not battery saving setting… I've raised that ticket and see if they can help.

EDIT : ticket worked and they fixed overnight. Wondering why isn’t that a setting… but anyway.

I have a power cut at the moment. Battery was fully charged so not too big of a deal. Don't have a changeover switch so at the moment I'm running the fridge, boiler etc using some extension leads.

But I notice my PV is shut down due to no grid.

If I get a changeover switch installed would I then be able to use PV during a power cut?

The fireman switch is going to lose power in the event of a power cut in turn dropping out your array. This can be addressed with a change over switch

    Thanks ptogher,

Any idea of rough cost? I've been putting this on the long finger but might want to get this sorted before the winter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 303 ✭✭ptogher14

You'd need someone to look at it. Too many variables. Space available, setup, where the inverter is located in relation to the DB. A change over switch is not big money, approx. €100 for an isolator type of €60 fin the a din rail style one. But I would expect the cost to run into the hundreds with other materials and labour. Make sure you get someone who knows what they're doing.

First summer time with the Solis, had to manually update the time this morning, no automatic time change?

make sure Daylight saving time is ticked in Soliscloud, go to Invertor / basic information and on that page is a toggle button for daylight savings

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 103 ✭✭AntonP

Remember the scheduled charge and discharge will not flip on their own. Some models do not update their time automatically and will screw you unless you manage it.

I have "Daylight Saving Time" toggled but it still shows Ireland's timezone as UTC+0. I would expect to see UTC+1 at the moment.

EDIT: I'm assuming this is the base timezone only, seems ok I think.
