What's with the sudden influx of people trying to spin the whole Jan 6th thing ?

Could it be related to… this ?

There’s no point in arguing. The 2 “I don’t like Trump, but…” posters will not be swayed from their opinion that Trump has never done anything wrong. Save your thumbs

Apologies if posted. I was wrong he was actually impersonating a trans weightlifter. Sit back and enjoy.

As we know, the true measure of a man is how he plays the physically taxing game of golf…

It may be that he think's throwing up another dust-storm to confuse the actual allies the U.S has in NATO and Europe will help the others this side of the Atlantic who don't care for there to be a unified front with the U.S, as he doesn't give a fig for it anyway. His profit margins are more important.

If you think the current EU leadership will go to war against the US, you are out of your mind.

Where is the strong leader that would do this? The "Coalition of the Willing" to help Ukraine is 3 maybe 4 countries, ffs.

Greenland next on cards. Miller and Vance are hellbent on putting it up to Europe. Annexing Greenland would destroy NATO and land Trump another important natural resource. I really think they will go for it after the success of Venezuala. Also keeps Epstein out of the news cycle. Just have perpetual war for the rest of his tenure.

If they roll over and allow the US take a European countries territory without pushback then thats the end of NATO. A conventional war against the US we'd have no hope but in this case the cards are stacked in Europe's favour. It would be unpopular within the US, unpopular around the world, economical damaging and in an environment where Europe has a huge advantage.

At the very least the US bases would need to be commandeered immediately.

At the very least yes. Close all bases in European countries and get their troops out of the continent.

The question is also if Trump would try to annex or start an intervention in Iceland as well as the Republic of Ireland?

Not impossible to think so, as both countries don't invest much in military and defence leaving them exposed to Russian or Chinese interest. And especially in Ireland it would be about protecting the large scale US-American investment.

Embargo’s on their goods, restrict sharing intel as well.

Some of the trump ball lickers seem to think the US has the upper hand on this. It would, if it was run by a shower of morons.

Yep I think Trump going to war with Europe has the potential to scare enough from his own party. Even if it's just personal economic hits which they will face. I'd say there will be more impeachments on the cards.

Marco Rubio briefing congress that the US wishes to.buy Greenland...
    Well, that's ok then 🤷‍♂️🤦

We have feck all natural resources really so wouldn't worry about occupation .

We can only hope this is Trump in full @ art of the Deal negotiation mode. Outlandish claims to the country but will settle for more US Military presence and mining rights or somesuch. Otherwise NATO done and Europe screwed on all sides. Fascinating interview on RTE radio yesterday with some sycophantic Trump supporter who didn't see the problem in one NATO member taking territory from another. Lunatics the lot of them

Every US corporation with assets in Europe would potentially have sanctions against them.

Trump's adventure in Greenland would result in either the complete divorce of the US from the EU as trading partners, or Trump would be deposed by an internal coup.

Europe HAS to stand up to Trump

Trump thinking he can buy it like a company.

The lack of intelligence is wild.

Looking more and more likely the US will 'annex' Greenland. Hard to see why they would be banging on about it daily unless there was a plan to take it (why would they bluff about this…..to what end?).

A far, far cry from the isolationist no-new-wars stance of his election campaign. Not that it's any surprise. He also said that he'd end the Ukraine war in the day, and that he'd fix inflation/cost of living, neither of which have been any way achieved. Those promises were just to hoik in more moderate voters.

As I had thought, 'no new wars' was really just code for pivoting away from backing up its post-war allies or making any attempt to uphold liberal democracy around the world. Really, the Trump administration has plenty of appetite for conflict. A belligerent stance is almost central to the ethos of authoritarians, i.e. strength, might, power.

Right now it's looking like Trump and his minions just want to see how far they can make European leaders bend and supplicate as a kind of sick ego thing. Either the US is fixing to officially end the alliance and exit NATO or make it clear to Europe that the old arrangement is finished and that Europe is their vassal and any benefits the US will bestow are to come under a much heavier cost.

Saw someone say today that Trumps invaded Venezuela and deposed Maduro and renditioned him to NY because he was successful in something Trump failed at.

    images-1.jpeg

Its a disgrace the US is where it is given this happened just 5 years ago and who was involved.

Media plays a massive part for allowing Trump to reframe the narrative.

This is fucked. Does he need congressional approval to annex somewhere? Can't believe I'm asking this question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,639 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Probably not if doesn't involve war. Trump could just announce he has 'come to an arrangement' with the government of Greenland and therefore no need to involve Congress.

Occupation wouldn't be about resources, it'd be about using Ireland as a staging post to attack Britain and mainland Europe.

It's why the British built Martello towers around our coast. The British recognised Ireland as a strategic location for their enemies to attack mainland Britain attack, namely France and prior to that Spain.

We are considered the weak link in Western Europes defence. We cover about 1/4 of the continents western flank but have little to no military to defend it.

As unpopular as this sounds I would fully expect troops from European nations including 'gulp' British troops to be invited to help secure the island. For political reasons the Brits may stay within the 6 counties unless the **** hits the fan.

We're living in absolutely batshit crazy times. I can't believe I'm writing this stuff. I thought the Good Friday Agreement was the end of British troops deployment on this island but here I am speculating that they could return to help defend us. It's all batshit crazy.

No more than Russia in Ukraine, its important to stop the US early. Greenland is a major advantage to Europe. If they tried to hurt us in Europe in retribution they'd have to somehow take the war to Europe without any bases in Europe. Their only chance for land bases would be north Africa.

Theres no doubt he goes for Iceland after Greenland if he gets a free run. We might be lucky because at that stage Europe would have had enough and would definitely go to war.

In the context of Europe vs America war. I don’t see how Ireland would be the weak link when US has 80 to 100k troops stationed across Europe. Russia is bogged down in Ukraine and can’t win, not sure how coming to Ireland is high on their priorities. China wants Taiwan, there’s literally zero chance of them invading. British troops never left the island.
