Great List @tigerwood1 , as a longtime boards campaigner we knew you’d bring your own twist on the boards society cocktail. Looking forward to travelling to I think 4 new courses on that list for me. Fully appreciate the challenges of booking society golf now so happy to travel personally to any of these.
I have just played Bunclody in the last week and the place was in super shape for the time of year. Great that we are going back to Gowan park also as I think it was @charlieIRL ’s year we played there many moons ago and I was very green in golfing terms!!
Westport for Captains will be great as I haven’t played either of those courses but have been to Westport a few times for the nightlife.
Also great to see @OffalyMedic making a comeback after what sounds like a busy few years 👍

The notion that our Tigers game can lapse with this years Captains job is laughable ,as anyone that’s played with him knows the fireworks you can on occasion witness in his game…….
Looking forward to 2026 and thd Jug Race again!

Rumour has it that he has the birth booked in but gave his wife the wrong date, time and location

Great Post bud. Can't wait for the new season.

What a list 👏. I've played 3 of those in Portmarnock, Rathsallagh and Bunclody. For anyone wondering Bunclody's golf clubs Jam are top notch, took 2 jars home last time and it wasn't enough. Cracking selection of courses there. Getting all excited now.

Best of luck @tigerwood1 for the coming year. That's a great list you have come up with, I reckon I've hacked my way around 6 of them. Ballinrobe is excellent for the money , a real gem. Never played Concra Wood , Gowran park or Westport but all look class on the internet anyway . Just saw my job's on-call rota for the year and my times are only clashing with Rathsallagh so I hope to make most of the rest of them.

the only new ones for me are Castletroy (think Boards went there in @FixdePitchmark year as Captain) and the 2 courses for captains weekend.

Played Concra when it first opened and haven’t been back since. Memory was a bit soft under foot but super setting around a lake and some great elevation changes. Looking forward to a long overdue return

That is a great list of courses.
I have been lucky enough to play 8 of them. Westport is the new one for me. I have played Concra Wood, Ballinrobe & Castletroy just the once each but I remember all 3 being excellent courses and well worth the trip for anybody who hasn't played them before.

Unfortunately I will definitely miss Rathsallagh, which is a pity as it would have been nice to return there for summer rules. 2 or 3 others are also dodgy so I might need to start a campaign to make Ballinrobe a counting competition in order to get my 5 counting rounds in!

Looks like a great list of courses, and best of luck to the Captain and all involved!

I'm hoping to get out to more than one outing this year 😂

Best of luck on your captains year @tigerwood1

Excellent post @tigerwood1 and a very interesting rota of courses spread across the country. All 4 provinces represented which is a first for my time in the Society. Have only played 4 so 5 new ones if I make it to everyone of the outings.

Hopefully the year will pan out in an epic fashion all culminating in a visit to the fabulous Westport. Roll on Portmarnock.

p.s. Any way you could pin the rota to the first post of the thread. Always find it handy to check the dates during the year when planning other life events (not as high on the priority list as the golf obviously!).

Might need a mod or something to do that at this stage. Maybe @awec can oblige?

I created a thread with only the schedule in it and stickied it at the top of the forum.

Closed the thread for further posting. This thread for chat, that thread just for the schedule. Easier than having to keep going back to page 1 on this.

Maybe we can also update the schedule thread with the winner of each outing as we go along.

Best of luck to everyone involved. Cracking course selection. As well as being a club member, I also run my work society. So the chances of joining you guys is slim.

The few I have played over the years were all great.

If I had more free time, I'd be there in a heartbeat!

Looking like a great list of courses for this year. Looking forward to getting out and playing a few new ones. Will miss Portmarnock as, ironically, I'm on a night away in Rathsallagh that weekend.

Best of luck with the captaincy this year @tigerwood1

Paid up for the year but unfortunately will likely only make a small number of events. But best of luck to all in the year ahead. I've no doubt it will be another great one with fierce competition for the coveted Ryder Jug spots.

The invoice has arrived and the money was spent. Cant wait to kick off the year now in Portmarnock. Ive played there twice, both times with the society, and each time the weather was perfect. Hopefully its 3 in a row🤞🏻

In exactly 1 month (right down to the exact time even) we'll be teeing up on the stunning Jameson links to start out our year.

Looking forward to it. The links is the ultimate place to start it off!

For anyone who wasn’t sure how to join, we’ve now updated the following thread:

All about the Boards Golf Society – Joining Information and Rules 2026.
All the joining details can be found in the thread flow.

Just a quick run through of the courses for 2026. I know there’s a fair bit of driving involved, but sure what else would ye be doing and it gives plenty of time to argue about handicaps on the way.
Of the eight courses listed, I’ve played five: Portmarnock Links, New Forest, Concra Wood, Gowran Park, and Rathsallagh. In my humble (and completely unbiased) opinion, all five are top-class courses and well worth the miles on the clock and the diesel bill🥹.
A special mention for Concra Wood, which I last played about fifteen years ago. Anytime I’m asked what my favourite course is, it’s the one I always come out with usually followed by blank looks, because most people haven’t played it, probably due to its location being somewhere beyond the edge of Google Maps.
We had a big turnout last year at Seapoint, which is a similar distance away for most of ye. I appreciate links golf is generally more popular, but Concra Wood is a standout parkland course. I totally agree with Kevin Markham’s rating of 95, and I’d be shocked if anyone comes away from it thinking it’s mediocre.

Of the courses I haven’t played — Castletroy, Westport, and Ballinrobe — all are very highly rated, so I’m really looking forward to playing them myself. I think Padraig Harrington was once quoted as saying Ballinrobe is one of the finest parkland courses in the west of Ireland, and if it’s good enough for him, it’s definitely good enough for the rest of us hackers.😁

Hope to have Portmarnock (Jameston Links) timesheet up from next week.

Going to miss the first outing, so hoping to see ye March for my first outing! I'm in the Naas area, so if anyone wants a lift happy for someone to hop in?

Is it too late to get involved as a newbie for 2026 lads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 421 ✭✭Break80

Never too late. As a matter of fact there's still some space available for our first outing in Jameson Links on the 14th.

All the info is available on the Joining thread.

    Welcome.
