Anyone else buying into the #conformitygate theories that there will be another episode / ending released on Netflix on January 7th?

Basically the last ending was fake (all inside Mikes mind as he was cursed / vecna'd).

Would love to believe it personally as it would be some way to end the series by the Duffers.

The online analysis of season 5 (that feeds into the conformitygate theory) is very convincing. There are enough clues there that point to something happening on January 7th. If they dropped a 9th episode, it will go down as one of the best reveals ever.

I'm fascinated people think this will go down as a great TV show. For me it peaked at season 1 and was diminishing returns ever since. Somewhat entertaining all the way through mainly because you like the characters but ultimately it became social media reaction fodder fairly quickly to it's detriment. Really consider that finale and how it went. Make a plan, couple of characters stop and have emotional conversation. Make a new plan, another two characters stop for an emotional chat etc. etc. with various mega budget set-pieces in between the pattern only slightly altered so Will can come out to pretty much every character the show has ever had in one room. Surprised the whole town wasn't outside the window clapping at the time.

WWE Raw is doing a Stranger Things crossover tonight which is strange considering the show is over.

Aye, im after watching several videos on Instagram about this subject. There are ALOT of odd things in the final episode that are easily missed until pointed out but tie into the idea that theres one more left in the tank. As unlikely as it is, if it was, it would be absolutely be the best bait and switch of all time.

S5 was the weakest but the other seasons were brilliant.

    S4 was excellent.

    Maybe it's not your taste.

    It's nonsense.

The Duffer Brothers even said they'll never return to these characters.

Which is unfortunate as I'd love a film or limited series in 10 years time like IT.

Netflix own the IP though so I guess it's not the Duffer Bro's choice.

Agreed. For me S4 was where it peaked, and S5 couldn't match those heights.

    S4>S3>S1>S2>S5

    For me it's S1 > S4 > S3 > S2 > S5

S1 is just perfection and impossible to beat.

S5 was still good but should've been better.

I don't think the story line around the kids was very good.

The final battle was very average.

I like the ending though. That was very clever.

Season 1 is an incredible bit of television. Something about the characters also felt so much more interesting and real. They all got a bit goofy and slapstick in later seasons.

Season 4 got that darker edge back, Sadie Sink and her plot are class and Henry was an amazing addition. If they had just defeated Henry in 4 and wrapped the show up then it would have been better in my opinion.

I did like the older kids ending on the roof. Their paths seemed true to the characters and better than having them in cheesy romances or hanging round Hawkins forever.

The finale of S4 was brilliant.

You had Hopper, Joyce and Murray in the prison.

Max almost dying with Lucas by her side.

    11 fighting Veccna.

Mike with her as she's in the pizza dough tub.

Nancy, Steve attacked by vines as they're about to attack Veccna.

Eddie dying also and Dustin holding him for his last words.

It was brilliant storytelling that all those stories converged at same time in different dimensions.

    It probably peaked then.

Maybe they should've killed off Veccna and gone with a different villain in S5.

They should've had Max blind and disabled in S5 also. She recovered too easy.

Someone important should've died in the last episode also. Maybe Johnathan.

Just watched the last 4 eps of S5. Male 57 yrs of age. . sobbed like a todler at the finale around the dungeons & dragons table.

There's something that pulls at the heartstrings about losing innocence as we mature. The way tiktok portrays the 80s for instance. Telling us everything was neon pink with synthpop in the ether. Nonsense of course but we believe coz we want to believe.

Me too and I'm a grown man. I cried also at 11 and Mike's scene in the void.

I've cried a few times watching ST.

I wouldn't be prone to crying watching tv but I was very emotional when Eddie died

I was more upset for Dustin.

I thought Joe Quinn was miscast and I didn't like the character.

I kept thinking why's a guy in his late twenties in highschool hanging around with kids.

The Duffer Brothers said they found Eddie hard to cast and I think they panicked.

Quinn's a brilliant actor though but just too old to play that role.

Eddie said he was held back (twice I think?) So while he was noticeably older it was explained tbf. The unnamed big Hellfire dude looked the same age as Eddie aswell. Eddie and his group also enjoyed D&D giving him a common hobby with the new kids aswell tbf.

Also I like that the Steve/Derek hug seems to be going a bit viral at the moment, a lovely little scene - imagine if they had killed Keery in season 1!) but I also loved the seemingly lesser noticed fact that Steve was cleaning Dereks glasses with his bandana before giving them back and THEN getting grabbed by Delighted Derek.

Yeah I think as pjohnson said, they tried to explain it away with saying he was held back, plus he was in his senior year where the others were still a year or two below that, so there would be around a 4-5 year age gap between them. As well as that though, he was mostly in scenes with Dustin, and everyone looks older compared to Dustin.

Frankly I didn't see much of a difference with regards age & hanging out with the younger kids between Eddie and Steve. Eddie was ultimately just a couple of years older than the core group of kids, but was friends with them through their D&D club and then became more involved with them through the Upside-down stuff.

I just thought he looked like a guy pushing 30 not late teens.

He had those wrinkles you get between your mouth and nose from smiling.

Excellent actor though but I still think he was miscast.

It kinda ends up the same as the recast of Holly Wheeler. Once you notice it and remember what age they're supposed to be, sometimes it stands out and it's harder to just ignore it.

No not a chance, essentially it's a bunch of people who are not happy with how the finale ended wanting to create their own fan fiction ending.

    The lifeboat has set sail

I didn't expect to hear the legendary butthole surfers in s5 !

Some of the "modern" music at the end was well done. Emphasised the passing of time and sense of change.

Looking at some posts on IG and X about conformity gate, I haven't seen such clutching of straws since I walked in on Worzel Gummidge having a w@nk

    when’s the missing episode on?

    Feb 30th

Has happened me more than once watching the show. Just pulls on the heartstrings way more than other shows I'd watch. I'm convinced it is the 80s synth that creeps in during an emotional scene!

It's the music as well as the characters and actors being very likable.

They put time into character development also so they become real.

I still think there should've been a meaningful death in the final episode just to really push things.
