Yeah, this is how i see it. I think he was told there will be no signings in January, and that is the root of the issue.

If he was sacked today I couldn't really defend him based on his record and how we play.

But, if the club have told him they won't look to improve the squad I think it paints the hierarchy terribly.

It is supposed to be a club plan - our vision is supposed to be somewhat agnostic - and yet we aren't going to improve the squad because of concern over the manager? If we sacked Amorim today are we really asking this new manager to also make do with Casemiro and Bruno as the only two CMs the club trusts? Are we telling him to make Zirkzee a start attacker?

IMO it doesn't matter who the manager is, we need players, and the players we need aren't particulary dependent on Amorim. If we changed to a 433, and we bring Mainoo in, our bench options are Urgarte? (with Mount or Bruno at 10)? We have Casemiro, Urgarte and Mainoo for two positions. 1 of which has been poor most of his United career. 1 of which will likely leave in the summer. and the last, Mainoo, isn't happy and has been looking to leave - that might change if Amorim is gone but even if it does it means we have ONE midfielder we are somewhat happy with after the summer? Sure, we might want Baleba or Anderson - and maybe we have to wait til the summer (to fail to convince them…) but signing them won't be enough.

IMO you could be looking at 8/9 positions that need to be signed over the next two windows, and we aren't going to do all of that in the summer. We HAVE to do some of that now. We are not in a position where we can afford to let transfer windows just pass us by. And if Wilcox thinks we are - my head is on the damned moon.

Whether anyone is Amorim in, or Amorim out, the actions of Berrada and Wilcox are incredibly worrying, imo. To the point I think they are being more harmful to the long term project than Amorim is.

The issue I have with INEOS is that they were supposed to come in and make club signings so that replacing a manager wouldn’t be such a huge deal.

Players are bought for the club philosophy and the head coach can com in and get the best out of the players at his disposal. Similar to when Klopp wanted Julian Brandt but the data suggested Salah was the best suited to the club. We know how that went.

Wilcox, Berrada and co seemingly decided on a 343 system with 2 wing backs that would define man united for the future. With seemingly the best manager for the job. Only problem was the players available didn’t suit the system and we haven’t really signed anyone either. Dan Ashworth reported pushed back due to the cost of this and most likely the reason he was sacked.

Now apparently we have Wilcox wanting to change the formation while Amorim is sticking to his guns. I don’t blame him for that if that was the set rules when he joined.

A circus once again. For all the good ineos have done off the field, they’ve majorly fücked up on it and not sure how anyone can have confidence to get us ‘back where we belong’.

Looks like he could possibly go today. Briefs are starting that they’ll meet this morning. He’s gone into massive favourite to be next manager sacked.

really - so like the Maresca situation? Which one of them will get the City job, they've both been touted as Pep successors at various times.

Assuming this is all noise - if we're still 5th or 6th at the end of the season I'd give him another year. Last year was an anomaly, we should be comparing with the 8th place in ETH's last full season. But I don't think we should read too much into being 5th now, the table is still very compressed.

Definitely don't want to rip things up again and Amorim's record can't be defended. But while it can't be defended, I think it should be looked at in two separate phases. Last year was a complete disaster, he walked into a mess and probably made it worse for a period. This year has seen an improvement despite no level of consistency.

That said, if the brains trust had signed him a player like Watkins (which it seems he was really pushing) rather than signing Hojlund 2.0, I'm fairly certain we would be sitting in a comfortable 4th in the PL. An extra 4,5,6 points minimum from a striker who can score is not fanciful imo.

I think the rift between Amorim and the brains trust started to fester ("FESTER") from that and blew over when he felt they weren't backing him / started listening to Gary Neville.

As much as I have my doubts about Amorim, I'm in his corner. I've been very skeptical about Ineos from day 1, being slightly better than than Glazers was a low bar, and I think they've appointed a spoofer as DoF.

Cameroon vs Morocco meet in the 1/4 final on Friday. That's 1 player coming back (maybe they can be on the bench on Sunday for the FA Cup).

Extremely disappointed with the handling of everything by the United hierarchy.

No faith in their ability to lead United forward anymore.

Yeah it was coming. I had stopped talking about him for the most part after the Brentford game. It felt then or around then that this is going to be over soon. Thankfully we’re not further down the table. There’s still a big opportunity to finish the season strong as it’s only half time.

I hope they get the next appointment right.

And yet there he goes! Whatever your individual views on if it’s deserved or not. He was essentially gone as United manager after that press conference. There was no way back.

Grand so anything about signings? Or are we gunna do another fresh start stupidity and expect a new manager to turn Ugarte into a ball playing maestro?

already talk we will wait to the summer for the permenent appointment.

so we are gonna have fletcher and whatever random assortment of coaches we can find.

and we are going to sign no one because (1) who would sign for us without a manager (2) who would sign for us without a plan and (3) we will say we don't want to spend money the next manager will need.

This sacking has torpedoed any chance we had for this season, imo. Its only going to get worse, imo.

We didn't have the squad, now we don't have a manager and zero ambition to improve the squad.

An absolute disaster, and imo shows that there is zero reason to have faith this United hierarchy will every create a winning environment.

Disgraceful from the club. Complete mess.

Weird feeling. Every other manager since Fergie it was almost a cathartic release when they got sacked. Genuine excitement.

I feel mixed about this. He’s clearly had the worst results of any manager we’ve had. But he’s the only one where it felt like things were getting better rather than descending into farce at the end.

Not sacking him after spurs is now looking so stupid. He’s now going due to a power struggle rather than unacceptable performance.

No excitement at all for whoever comes next. Another long few years of rebuilding ahead….again.

No new appointment expected until the summer! Great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,313 ✭✭✭KH25

This is how I feel. I won’t argue with anyone over results, but this very much feels like a sacking because of a clash with the hierarchy. I don’t have high hopes of them getting it right.

Burnley, Arsenal, City and Fulham this month. I still don't see us picking up more than 3 points from those games. As others have said, a change in manager is going to make **** all difference to us really. Is Fletcher going to get our win rate over 40%? I doubt it. More so, it seems Amorim was sacked for having a go at the bosses, not his actual results.

This club is such a **** mess.

Probably have an interim in place for the rest of the season, no CM signing in January and hope for some sort of FA Cup run. Another season being written off.

He had to go….he wasn't up to it. Although the club at the top is a mess

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,199 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

He’s been on about quitting for a while now. That was his way of doing it with a payout.

The club is a fooking joke. What little faith i had left in INEOS is now completely gone. They've sacked him and given the job to a youth team manager, yeah, that's going to really help the team. Are they going to sack that waste of spuds Wilcox now as well or are they just going to pretend he's done a great job.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

A day of celebration for many then.

Wow was not expecting that this morning

This club is a complete mess. INEOS are clueless. 2 seasons with INEOS and 2 managers sacked as well as a sporting director. Wilcox and Berrada need to go as well
