    I wouldn't be so sure.

When trying to damage of destroy any type of undersea line, be it a communications cable, electricity cable, or even a pipeline, the aim is to get through the multiple layers of protection and let seawater into the innards of whatever it is you're trying to breach. Unless you have access to a shore station for said line and can sabotage that, of course. This requires significant amounts of force, as those cables are built to survive quite a bit of abuse. This in turn means that you're going to need quite a bit of force to breach those outer layers, force applied to a relatively small area. There are only two practical ways to apply this level of force in a small enough area to breach and disable a line:

    • The sharp blade of an anchor dragged along by a large freighter moving at a decent clip
    • A shaped charge aimed at the cable/pipeline in question

Most of the previous incidents involving undersea cables happened in very shallow waters, primarily in the Baltic, which has an average depth of only 55 meters. These were generally achieved by ships dragging their anchors across underwater cables. Most commercial vessels have around 100 to 300 metres worth of anchor chain, and even a ship bent on sabotage will likely never have its full length of chain deployed, both for reasons of deniability and for practical reasons, such as strain on the chain itself and the winches.

Given that, it stands to reason that anchor dragging, the approach that seems to be preferred by Russia's shadow fleet so far, will likely not occur in waters with a depth exceeding 50 to 150 meters. This might work for parts of the Irish Sea, but much of the Atlantic off Ireland's southern and western coasts is deeper than that. What's more, it's also so exposed that any ship spotted in that area with a dropped anchor would immediately draw suspicion.

This leaves only clandestine options, and here, submarines are the best choice, especially given Ireland's current deficit in ASW capabilities. Now, whether said submarine deploys divers, ROVs, or large UUVs to deposit said charges is another matter, but the basics remain the same.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Photos of Maduro posing with DEA agents so have a strong suspicion he's made a deal… My guess is he'll get off really lightly.

Underground betting scandal sweeps the Pentagon. Officials are taking bets on Hegseth having to resign.

Pete Hegseth has weathered a string of scandals in his first year, including a controversial air strike in the Caribbean and the Signal-gate national security leak. But high-ranking Pentagon staff are betting the Secretary of War won't last much longer, running clandestine 'betting pools' on the date of his removal as they describe the atmosphere under his command as a precarious game of survival. Money is changing hands between officers, with varying odds offered on whether Hegseth hits the one-year and 18-month mark, three Army staff told the Daily Mail. That would place his departure - or ouster - around July 2026.

The sweepstakes are ongoing in various offices, described as fantasy football-style games that act as a 'coping mechanism' for personnel who say Hegseth runs the Pentagon like the unruly Army captain he once was rather than a distinguished Cabinet secretary. 'There are a lot of people in each group - maybe 20 or 30. They are all mostly done on text or Signal because nobody wants to get caught doing that on an official platform,' the source explained. Insiders say Hegseth's downfall could come as a result of misplaced priorities, like an obsessive focus on uniforms and facial hair over a pressing national security threat or military mishap, according to one army source.

Internet in a secure environment isn’t prohibited, using both networks at the same time is called “the swivel chair method”. I had both NIPR and SIPR computers on my desk in Afghanistan, more normally there is a communal NIPR computer in a corner somewhere. The rule is that there must always be an “air gap”, and that any mobile electronic devices must be approved. Further, not all secure areas are SCIFs. And yes, I have seen curtains used as well. Not as if the people on the far side of a curtain don’t have a clearance or that the defined secure area is boundaried by the curtain.

It would be idiotic to not have outside connections in such an environment, especially in a world of substantial OSINT sources.

I doubt many people care what this bunch of cowards have to say about anything. Sweepstakes are the height of their credibility. We're at how many illegal orders now and not even a whimper from the top ranking officials. Bunch of warmongers with inflated sense of self importance.

Ok, let’s answer the question? How many orders known to be illegal under US law are we at? There are indications that the National Guard deployment may be illegal, but that is not yet known to be the case as the courts have not yet come to a conclusion on the matter.

So, as expected, the US are not going to run Venezuela.

    Senile Don fucked up again

Would Native Americans have the right to kidnap Trump as he was elected illegally and demand the land returned that was stolen from them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,585 ✭✭✭PropJoe10

The guy can barely keep his eyes open at meetings. He was probably asleep when the future of Venezuela was being discussed and then decided he'd make up a story that made him look "impressive".

I always think the North Koreans had the best insult for him. Dotard.

Donald Trump has warned Venezuela's vice president and acting president Delcy Rodriguez against defying the US.

"If she doesn't do what's right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro," the US president told The Atlantic in a phone interview this morning according to US time.

Trump added that Venezuela may not be the last country where the US could intervene.

"We do need Greenland, absolutely," he said, noting the island, which belongs to Denmark, was "surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships."

Both the strikes on Iran and Venezuela needed congressional approval. Neither had. Killing unarmed people, shipwrecked is a war crime and an illegal order. I'm sure you'll look for an obscure get out of jail card to justify why they were legal but I'd expect nothing less at this stage.

Amazing how they can go into the capital of a country, extract the president and rendition him to US soil (itself and illegal act) but can't pick up a few lads on a boat .

"The MDC has drawn more scrutiny since 2021, when the Bureau of Prisons closed its other New York City jail — the Metropolitan Correctional Center — after Jeffrey Epstein’s suicide there highlighted its lax security, crumbling infrastructure and dangerous, squalid conditions".

Once Maduro realises where he is being held, maybe realise Trump had form around this joint, he will fold over and do whatever to get out.

I was talking to a pal of mine over a beer after the Rugby last night, he's a consultant endocrinologist by profession, worked in geriatric medicine mainly when he was a NCHD.

It is his educated view, based on a visual assessment of Trump from the time of the New York record falsification trial in mid 2024, and from the statements of Trump himself and others regarding his health and attitude to lifestyle, that Trump is now nearing the end of his life.

It is his opinion that the most probable development will be a major stroke and/or haemorrhage event, from which he will not recover. And that the evident deterioration will put him out of commission, either fully disabled in medical care for a period prior to death or outright dead, before next summer.

The sooner the better for everyone if he's put out of commission. Permanently.

He was the head of the country. He was persecuted very unfairly

Doesn't matter from within the cabal what comes next will be iteratively worse.

It would depend on how badly the minions have damaged the electoral machine. At the moment, its Miller and those Heritage Foundation fcuks pulling the levers. That won't change if Vance takes charge. Hes slyer and more focused. Things could get worse.

King Brian and little people have been at a loose end since Darby O'Gil was filmed maybe with some action man gear from Smiths toys and a few drones we'd have a formidable force.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,889 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

    Yes I agree.

My point is that I believe the Miller / Vance axis believes the situation I describe about Trump's health to be accurate too, and that they are moving fast and breaking as many things as possible, that they can then lay at Trump's door after he is gone, and then campaign with more dignity and moderation for the Mid-terms, before ramping up this ruthless aggression once again.

I'm not sure it will fool enough Americans, but its all they have at the moment, especially with stubborn prices and bubbles forming within the labour market and on Wall Street.

As the saying goes, the devil you know is better than the devil you don't. As bad as DJT is, God knows what might come next. We could end up looking at the Trump era wistfully and wishing we could go back to it.

This is mental, Rubio literally was on earlier saying that this was different because Hernandez was no longer president when he was arrested. Do they even talk to each other ?

I never understood this line of thinking. If someone is being a **** and needs dealing with, then you deal with them without fear of who or what comes next. If they are a **** too, deal with them as well. If you keep allowing **** be **** and granting leniency towards them, that doesn't reduce their cuntness but further emboldens them and others to continue being ****

one issue for them is that if trump goes, will vance (or anyone else) be as 'charismatic' to the faithful as trump was?

he's teflon - are the rest willing to take that chance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,143 ✭✭✭Fionn1952

While this should not be taken as any sort of support from Trump, I find it hard to believe any highly experienced medical professional would make as definitive a claim as that based on watching a video of someone. I think you're either overselling what he said or he's massively overstating the diagnostic value of watching a video of someone and given his experience, he should know much better.

Won't matter if the elections are rigged. Putin isn't exactly flavour of the month in Russia or Maduro in Venezula. They both ended up calling the shots regardless
