I would find it hard to believe we would be in relegation bother if we gave more game time to heaven, yoro, mainoo, fletcher, lacey, obi and metata.

we already have 30 points, West Ham in 18th have 14 points. I think we can safely celebrate avoiding the drop for another season.

Yoro and Heaven already get plenty of gametime. It's hard to give Mainoo gametime when he's always injured, not his fault but it is what it is. As for the 4 young lads, well I don't think they are anywhere near ready to be playing more in the PL right now and we would seriously struggle if all 4 were in the team together. Not a dig at you here but we do field a young team almost every week compared to most other PL teams. We have Casemiro bringing the average up a good bit but take him out and it's a very young squad. This goes a bit to explaining our inconsistency because young players take time to get to a more consistent level.

Heaven, Yoro & Mainoo are all first team players, 2 of which didn't come through the academy

Amorim in press conference has said that "there are no conversations to change anything in the squad" this transfer window.

I will give the respect of assuming that he is just being smart enough to pretend United aren't buying, its just a smokescreen to improve their negotiating position. Which is right and proper.

Because if United don't buy a midfielder in January then they are **** idiots. If Amorim doesn't push for one then he is an idiot, because it could literally mean his job in the end.

Ugarte is the bar and it is a very low bar, there has to be somebody out there for reasonable money who can improve on Ugarte. Don't give me that nonsense about "long term players only", you don't get to the long term if you can't survive the short term.

the **** is wrong is maguire and de ligt? seems like there have missed more than a month. still no mount, bruno, mainoo.

time for sesko and cunha to step up.

Amorim: I don't think anyone will return for Leeds clash

    Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim:

"No new issues. We are going to see tomorrow. We have more and more training. I don't think so they are going to anyone is going to recover."

If the club don't get players in this window then they aren't serious about improving the squad. We can't pass up any transfer window with the state the squad is currently in and need at least 3 players this window to just have a decent crack at getting Europe.

No players back for Leeds and no talk of new signings. Happy New Year Reds.

Leeds are favourites with the bookies

Depends on the bookies. United marginal favourites with WH, Betfred, Ladbrokes and few others.

I'm really on the fence about Neves. Yeah he's never had pace and has been semi retired. I'd probably take him if the price was right though, he brings control in the same way Rodri does for City who is also not fast in any way shape or form. His ability to receive the ball under pressure and find passes would be an obvious plus, that he would be speaking the same language as Casemiro and Bruno, Cunha etc would presumably be an advantage but it really would be a cost analysis kinda one for me.

At the right price it makes sense to me, but it isn't long term and I'm not sure it would work in a 2 man midfield at all. One id also be happy to miss out on I guess. Collyer you could forget about and until Mainoo improves his availability and his longer passing in not sure he displaces too many right now, a signing like Neves probably allows him go on loan to develop with game time too now I think if it.

Neves would be perfectly fine choice if we played a midfield 3. But thats not allowed.

Have a feeling they will be happy to either get a longer term target in the door if possible or wait it out. I'd agree we really do need to bring in reinforcements but unless we see a couple go out I'm not sure they will be pulling the trigger.

Ugarte probably not going anywhere, Zirkzee maybe not either so that's two squad players who if they were to go would need replacing.....but if they stay, I doubt they will pay them and others to replace their minutes.

The transfer group need to be doing their best to find some deals and push on for the second half of the season. Will be risky to continue with the numbers as they are, when everyone is fit that's fine but we are only ever a couple of injuries from disaster.

Harry Maguire has been out since early November has he? Not looking good for him to get a new deal at this rate. De Ligt out since late November I think? Mad to me that he has been out so long with such relatively little information other than a back issue.

He's on 400k per week in Saudi. Obviously no PL team is going to pay him that. He might be worth 100k-150k to us but is he going to take a 60-70% pay cut to play in the PL? I doubt it.

Think your being very harsh on Mainoo saying he's always injured. The only thing not his fault is the amount of game time he has been given.

Its funny lads thinking Neves will help our middle of the park while Mainoo rots away on the bench

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,533 ✭✭✭scottser

I think Mainoo wants out. His stalled contract negotiations, his dickhead brother with the T-shirt, his swanning about on the pitch when he does get minutes all suggest he has one foot out the door to me, anyway. Same with Zirkzee. I take your point about why buy Neves when we have a perfectly decent midfielder on the bench, but I think minutes on the pitch is only part of the story with him.

Have a look at the lads United got in the recent past, Rasmus, Sesko, zirkzee, the big Dutch fella, as strikers you

will notice they were all ineffective , numbers of touches in the opp box below 10!

So something is wrong with the service to them one would suggest.

De Ligt might be a worry because wasn't there similar last season? Out for a bit which turned out be longer than expected or was he rushed back and got injured again. But back issues can be tricky in general

I wouldn't give Maguire a new deal. He could start for other teams so would probably want decentish wages to remain as back up. Like a six figure weekly wage. Let Yoro act as cover for De Ligt.

Marcos Senesi is out of contract this summer. I think that's someone the club could look at and won't include a fee. He's supposedly on £50K a week. What's the story with Upamecano. Signed by Bayern for big money. He starts for them but is free to talk with clubs atm as he's out of contract this summer.

Looking at the list for 2027 and Brighton are supposedly open to selling Paul van Hecke. Think there's issues with him and a new contract. I think he'd be another decent signing. Comfortable in possession and has played RB so could suit that RCB spot.

Inácio and Diomande signed new contracts but both supposedly still contain release clauses. Schlotterbeck the other big named player. If he leaves his contract run down he'll have a ton of options chasing him.

Well he'll have to take a big pay cut no matter where he moves unless he stays in Saudi. Which made me laugh when reports were he's willing to take a pay cut to make a move happen. Could pay him £300k a week and it's still technically a pay cut in his wages.

Harsh has nothing to do with it, it just is what it is. He's missed 39 games and counting in the past 2.5 seeasons, nearly 25% of the games we've played. That's not his fault but he can't be demanding a huge pay deal and miss that many games.

He's not rotting on the bench either. Sure, he could have gotten more minutes IMO but he's hardly done much himself when on the pitch to demand selection. And now when he could have been starting in 4/5 in a row he's injured again.

No biggie, as I said if it makes sense financially fire away. If it doesn't I'm happy enough to miss out.

Do you think they are similar players or would you think Neves brings something that Mainoo doesn't currently bring?

Neves possibly better defensively but Mainoo much better in progressing play( IMO). Neves would get completely exposed in Amorims midfield set up with his lack of pace.

I really hope they aren't putting all their eggs in an Anderson or Eliot basket because I can't see us getting either this summer. Most clubs can do long term transfer business in January so I don't see why we can't. My main worry is lack of squad depth right now as we've literally got 12 fit senior players in the panel right now. If that doesn't make them act then we aren't a serious club anymore.
