Just landed in London for a couple of nights, am wearing a sub but won’t be braving the T-shirt and in general will be conscious of my surroundings. Same with walking around with a mobile phone out. Here’s hoping I’m not back complaining in two days!

people with debt pretending to have money

Plenty of that here as well.Starting to look a lot like 2008 recently.

debt seems to be much easier to obtain in the U.K., I know a man that’s not working and just came back from 3 months in Thailand after he was issued 2 credit cards with a total of 10k available

0% finance is available from plenty of places like beaverbrooks

Im no Eoin McGee, but id hazard a guess that you need to have a fairly decent credit score to qualify for those 0% finance deals.

If the guy you know has just run up 20k of debt and isnt working to fund his repayments, then its going to get messy for him very quickly.

of course it is and that’s the debt trap they want people in

0% finance can be obtained by anyone with a job that’s over 18

I was chatting with my BiL last night about the level of trust some of us in this hobby place in each other and the why of it.
Most of the regular posters here can probably give an example of someone doing them a good turn and they in turn doing similar for others.

I was telling him an unfortunate story I came across in the Watch Collectors Ireland Facebook group.
A lad selling a Rolex Starbucks was shown a fake payment screen by the "buyer" and handed over the watch.

    Screenshot_2025-12-28-12-23-07-107_com.facebook.katana-edit.jpg

Now, noone should hand over their watch or any item they're selling until the money is sitting in their own account!
Esp in the SEPA2 instant payments era but, I'm not going to kick someone when they're down and I'd suggest to any investigating Gardaí that they add section 6 charges to baseline theft should they ever track the lad down.

Anyway, onto the point of my story.
Whilst I was telling my BiL the above story, he said "Haven't you just sold your Sinn?"
I have, I said and in an example of how trusting my buyer is?
Not only do I already have the money, but I still have the watch!

I had asked the buyer if he wanted to meet up for a handover rather than rely on the post during Christmas week, to ensure a smooth delivery.
We had made tentative plans to meet while he was near Limerick and that feel through, everyone is busy and time is tight this time of year.

A marked example of the dichotomy inherent in our hobby I suppose.
But also, an example of buying the seller and that regards at least?
    I'm a good guy I suppose 😁

So for the last week or so, I've had the money and I suppose, someone else's watch 👀
I'd best get delivery sorted 😉

I do wish the new owner health, happiness and as much sleep as his situation will allow him with his new watch, whenever I get it over to him.

Happy New Year folks, may it be a great one for us all.

Good god, that's an awful hit at Christmas, what about 15k?!

Gotta be careful out there. As has been said on here many the time, buy the seller.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,280 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

I met a buyer two weeks before Christmas and the price was agreed, he said he preferred cash on collection

Met the bloke and he asked me the price again and then said he don’t have enough cash so wanted to go part cash part Revolut, I was waiting for the scam screenshot to come out but surprisingly the money landed in Revolut after a couple of minutes and we went in the way

Always expect a scam wether it’s a phone call text or watch purchase or sale

Wasn't someone here asking about the Bulova moonwatch recently?

Saw this in my local jewelers window today and tried it on for the craic.

Looks fine on my 7.5 inch wrist, but the shop price was 579.

It's available in fields jewellers for 450 which is a very nice deal.

    Always liked these.

Though, I do wonder if a 45mm would suit me.

I've a 43mm diver that feels rather big. I think I'd need to try one on but have always been tempted.

UPDATE: I've just seen that the latest 96K111 models are now 43.5mm case diameter, the same as the Universal Geneve original. Damn, even more tempted now!

Bulova do a 'Silver Snoopy' version too, that is very nice indeed.

Are you sure you're 7.5 looks similar to how it looked on my 7 inch?

Wears too big for my taste.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,280 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

you won’t notice 1/2 an inch wrist size difference from a photo

Watch looks too big imo but each to their own

Just checked there and my wrist diameter is 7" after all.

I've lost a couple of stone in the last few months so I'll put it down to that. 😁

I've already got this one but I liked the one above as well.

They should have made the lug width wider on the Bulova.. it's out of proportion.. the meteorite dial version is nice..someone has one on adverts but looking for pretty much retail on it

I'd say the Lunar Pilot wears too big for most men.

I've tried the Speedie and it has presence but wears well on my wrist. Things that put me off are the cost of servicing and the fact I'm not really into complications. More a 3 hand time only guy who will put up with a day/date.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,981 ✭✭✭scwazrh

It really does wear big.Ive had one twice as I like the look ,story and its a nice addition to a speedie but ultimately just too big and more importantly It doesn’t wear well .It measures smaller than my panerai but isn’t as comfortable.

    Presume you mean the LP.

I don't really get the 'lunar', AFAIK the one that went to the moon was significantly smaller or am I wrong? Was it even quartz?

    Lunar inspired?

Tried it on in Fields while ago.
    I’ve a 6.75” (17cm) wrist. Don’t think it looks too outrageous.

I see Field's have the 43.5mm no date version of the Lunar Pilot on sale for €520. Probably a better fit for most although haven't tried it myself.

Apparently it's exactly the same movement with the date function blank.

I like that but the bracelet center link and case is high polished..wish it was all brushed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,793 ✭✭✭micks_address

If you did buy that could you get the case brushed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,677 ✭✭✭Cyclingtourist

The case is brushed, it's the centre links that are polished.

I threw a deposit on it just in case. Will think about it overnight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,071 ✭✭✭Lorddrakul

Yeah, the Bulova watch the Dave Scott wore on the moon was actually a Universal Geneve watch that was imported in parts and assembled in the US to qualify under weird trade and tariff rules of the day.

But yes, it was 43.5mm, as is the new no date version. It was a hand wind bi-compax movement, possibly based on a Valjoux 72 movement.

As such, it bears little resemblance to the first iterations put out by Bulova. The most recent no date version, is closer but still not striking the right tone, IMO. It is more a nod to, rather than a homage of, the original.

After 48 hours in London I can confirm we both have our watches and phones, and never felt uncomfortable despite being around a few of the traditional hot spots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,643 ✭✭✭✭893bet

It’s absolutely no danger till it’s not.

I never bring a nice watch on holidays or if I am socialising. Not worth the 0.0001% risk. I will have 1 far more precious thing with me usually (family) so last thing I want is to draw attention from the wrong sort. Abroad especially nefarious types are always working on an easy tourist.

After sleeping on it for the night, I’ve decided not to go ahead with the Bulova. Just think I’m hoping it’ll fit properly as opposed to it actually fitting properly. Will just have to out back on the few stone I’ve lost, then buy it!
